I think The Roots & Soulquarians (Questlove in particular) have been the greatest supporters of Fela's music & legacy in popular music
(not counting Femi & Seun).

edit: Also Mos Def "Fear Not Of Man" (Black On Both Sides, 1999)

Jay & Bey started the fela namedropping when the musical gained popularity.


Nigerian Gangster was a nice project.
It wasn't great all around,
but it had enough to keep me interested.
