Limp Bizkit Signed To YMCMB
'The game is missing danger, electricity, and rock n roll!!!! Cash Money Limp Bizkit,' Fred Durst Tweeted.

By Gil Kaufman

Lil Wayne has made no secret of his affinity for rock and roll. The Cash Money MC loves strapping on a guitar and though his detour into rock on the 2010 album Rebirth didn't click with fans as much as his hip-hop efforts, Weezy wasn't shy about cranking up the amps and paying homage to the rap-rock fusion sound of the 1990s.

So it kind of makes sense that he announced on Thursday that one of the icons of 90s nu-metal, Limp Bizkit, would be joining the YMCMB roster.

In an interview with New York's 98.7 KissFM station DJ Lenny Green,Wayne said, "we're always listening and looking at acts. Every other day I hear about somebody new just signed to Cash Money ... The other day I found out Limp Bizkit signed to Cash Money. They're singing everybody."

Wayne also said that the label could be working with former Murder Inc. princess Ashanti, but it was the news that Bizkit would join the likes of Nicki Minaj and Drake that raised the most eyebrows. Though they had a run at the top of the charts in the late 1990s with hits like a metalized rap cover of George Michael's "Faith" and "Nookie," by the early 2000's Bizkit began to lose steam. In 2001, colorful guitarist Wes Borland split as the band fell into a creative and commercial funk.

Borland returned for a brief period in 2004, but the critic's punching bag group could not outrun their past and went on hiatus until 2009, releasing their first album of new material in 6 years in 2011, the tepidly received major-label swan song, Gold Cobra. With the signing, LB become the first rock band to join a roster packed with R&B and rap acts that includes Tyga, Mack Maine, Busta Rhymes and Jay Sean.

Bizkit singer Fred Durst confirmed the Cash Money news early Friday morning in a series of Tweets (https://twitter.com/#!/freddurst), including one in which he wrote, "The game is missing danger, electricity, and rock n roll!!!! Cash Money Limp Bizkit." He later added, "rock s--- doesn't rock anymore! They say the whole game done went pop so I'm back in this ho! #CMLB."

Are you surprised by the news that Limp Bizkit is joining the YMCMB roster? Let us know what you think below.

Haters gonna hate, but as a band Limp is pretty solid; good riffs, great rhythm section etc.

Even when critics were nailing Durst to the cross in their reviews, it wasn't unusual to see them throw praise to the guitarist or drummer.

Dudes went mutiplatinum in the US with their last album in 2010...one could argue they are one of the most popular rock bands in the world. Makes no sense to me whatsoever because as mediocre as they were they've only gotten infinitely worse over the years..they make Nickelback look like Radiohead as far as artistic risk is concerned.

Because from what I remember, Meteora was quite a departure from Hybrid Theory, they had at least two remix projects featuring electronica and hip-hop acts, one of their members branched off into a short-lived hip-hop solo project, their last two albums have (I haven't heard them so this may just be an assumption) really slacked on the screamo woe-is-me attitude in favor of more atmospheric self-disappointment and they made a lot of noise last summer for turning out a faithful/surprising cover of Rolling in the Deep.

I don't think Nickelback is capable of imagining any of those things, other than covering Rolling in the Deep (though you'd have to leave out the potential for doing it justice).

but I know they had that song "Faint" on there and "Figure.09", and I was a Linkin Park fan at the time (I wanted a rap album but my parents wouldn't let me get an Eminem album so I sold them on "rap with guitars"...smh. Used to jam to Hybrid Theory on headphones playing my PS2 copy of Time Crisis 2 all the time after school though!)

I don't see Nickelback surprising their audience with songs like I was by that stuff, or the Reanimation stuff. I was pretty much over Linkin Park by the time Meteora dropped 'cause I'd discovered the Pitchfork and Source lists and was getting heavy into all kinds of canon but, yeah, I'd wager Linkin Park's discography takes more risks than Nickelback's has or will. Which is pretty impressive for a band that was basically assembled by casting call if I remember right.

regardless of whether it makes any sense for either party.

This is the beginning of the end, once Drake finds a way to bounce & Nicki becomes a full-time actress it's over.

I don't see Bow Wow's album ever coming out, maybe Busta's album will come out but maybe not. Limp Bzkit definitely ain't coming out, and no one checking for Ashanti anymore, or Christina Milian.
