"Real Chicago Folks know R.Kelly is the Greatest from the CHI"

yeah I said it. i deal with the real folks from the CHI and they Rep Kellz to the fullest and will tell you on the South Side who Da Kang of R&B is and who the Baddest to come from the CHI.

yeah after the way he performed for Sister Whitney Houston Live(that is the for the haters and also for the turkeys who actually with a straight face think there is somebody else out here who can hang with the man on stage and musically in 2012)

Haters are just envious because they ain't got nobody to match him up against. He was soulful at Sister whitney's service. He took it to the CHUCCH!!!!!!!!! Black Style!!!!!!!! that Brother is Peerless and ya Know it.

R.kelly got stuff in his vault that ain't no joke. you are hearing History with this Brother.

let me tell you when he is no longer here some folks are gonna be knocking on my door asking about his Impact. you ain't seen no one else like him.

anyway Props to the Real CHICAGO!!!! Folks who knows who has been holding the Chi town for Decade after Decade.

Props to George Daniels and DJ Wayne Williams and also to Common dug that Shout out to Kellz on the grammys.

Chi Town Steppin.

Let me see Biggie, Whitney, Michael, Luther all gave it up to ARRUH!!!!!!!!! your Favorite Artist can't say the same. Nuff Said!!!!!!!!!!!

with Kellz.

I love Curtis Mayfield and he is tied for 2nd with Maurice White.

but neither of them is seeing R.kelly and His domiannce and genius.

Kellz covered so much more territory as a Songwriter, producer and Artist.

Mayfield IMO is the greatest Soundtrack Artist IMO, however he didn't have Kellz run at all.

R.kelly didn't dominante for no 2 decades straight.

R.kelly can't be faded yo. hate to burst your bubble but it ain't even close Kellz is staggering way ahead it ain't even funny.

curtis Mayfield's time and run was before most folks time and he didn't flip things as much as R.Kelly.

can't nobody debate me on this either because i know.

when kellz did his tribute song for lady diana guess who was singing on the track? curtis mayfield with kellz directing the chorus back in 97.

you don't know nothing about how much Love Kellz got in the CHI

you are part of the clique on here who doesn't think for themselves and is tied to the OKP gang that be hating on Kellz

also Curtis Mayfield didn't have ARRUH's run. 80's and 90's??? NAW not in the running. curtis did his thing best Mid 60's thru 77.

doing the Math that means R.kelly 20 years to curtis Mayfields 12.

Kellz wins.

you ain't in my league when it comes to talking about R&B.

Yeah... no disrespect...But as much as Kells showed plenty of heart at that funeral and SANG, I'll take the following over anything Robert has ever written...Truth...

"If you had a choice of color
Which one would you choose my brothers
If there was no day or night
Which would you prefer to be right
How long have you hated your white teacher
Who told you, you love your black preacher
Do you respect your brother's woman friend
And share with black folks not of kin
People must prove to the people
A better day is coming for you and for me
With just a little bit more education
And love for our nation
Would make a better society

Now some of us would rather cuss and make a fuss
Than to bring about a little trust
But we shall overcome our beliefs someday
If you'll only listen to what I have to say
And how long have you hated your white teacher
Who told you, you love your black preacher
Can you respect your brother's woman friend
And share with black folks not of kin

I said now people must prove to the people
A better day is coming for you and for me
With just a little bit more education
And love for our nation
Would make a better society
And if you had a choice of colors
Which one would you choose my brothers
If there was no day or night
Which would you prefer to be right
And If you had a choice of colors
Which one would you choose my brothers
If there was no day or night
Which would you prefer to be right..."

"Choice of Color"--Curtis Mayfield...

because the people from the Chi who I know would pisss on you like R pissed on that 13 year old if you ever placed that clown ahead of Curtis Mayfield...

Kelly is not in Curtis Mayfield's solar system when it comes to songwriting.....and

well let's see...

Curtis mayfields songs and voice are the soundtrack fo the civil rights movement..... His songs about urban Black America showed a talent level that not very many if any artist ever can touch..

it's no contest...

Oh...and this one for true ETHER...

"IF THERE'S HELL BELOW".....

"Last night I was so depressed and I went and got the Bible and I turned to the book of Revelation, and if people would just get and read the Bible and read the book of Revelation they would really turn around and straighten up. This is all we need to do is just get the Good Book and read it, put it to everyday life.......

Sisters! Niggers! Whities! Jews! Crackers! Don't Worry . . . . If there's hell below we're all gonna go . . . .

Verses (Curtis sings): Sisters, Brothers and the Whities Blacks and the Crackers Police and their backers They're all political actors/ Hurry, people running from their worries/ While the judge and his juries Dictate the law that's partly flaw...

Cat calling love balling fussing and cussing/ Top billing now is killing For peace no one is willing/ Kind of make you get that feeling Everybody smoke Use the pill and the dope Educated fools From uneducated schools Pimping people is the rule Polluted water in the pool/ And Nixon talking about don't worry He say don't worry/He say don't worry He say don't worry But they don't know There can be no show/ And if there's hell below We're all gonna go Everybody's praying/ And everybody's saying But when come time to do Everybody's laying/ Just talking about don't worry They say don't worry They say don't worry They say don't worry...

Sisters, Brothers and the Whities Blacks and the Crackers Police and their backers/ They're all political actors/ Smoke The pill and the dope/ Educated fools From uneducated schools/ Pimping people is the rule/ Polluted water in the pool And everybody's saying don't worry They say don't worry/ They say don't worry They say don't worry But they don't know There can be no show/ And if there's hell below We're all gonna go Lord what we gonna do...

Tell me what we gonna do If everything I say is true/ This ain't no way it ought to be If only all the mass could see But they keep talking about don't worry/ They say don't worry They say don't worry

They say don't worry..."

Curtis was the first to do that Maxx...He was the first to write civil rights songs as an R&B act...It was him and Sam Cooke....

No one is saying you can't love Kellz over anybody else...When he wants to be dude is a monster...

But Kellz was not more influential or important than Curtis...

Not in this reality at least...

Mayfield was never as domiant though and that is a fact.

an important artist who made important music and still he ain't had the impact that Kellz has had.

kELLZ WAS THE first artist to win the Stevie Wonder songwriter award and Stevie Personally acknowledged Kellz.

Kellz has composed World anthems.

Curits Mayfield doesn't have a song with the world wide impact of "I believe I can fly".

not that it takes away from Mayfield, however still the facts speak for themselves.

Looks at Mayfield's entire discography as the lead songwriter, vocalist, producer and figure head of the Impressions...

Looks at his groundbreaking songwriting contributions as he lead R&B from the love song template to "socially conscious" message songs...

Looks at his contributions as an influential guitarist--influencing hugely on Jimi Hendrix...

Mayfield was writing important songs yes, however he wasn't touching no Smokey Robinson in the 60's. in fact alot of the stuff mayfield did for the five Stirsteps sounded like Smokey Robinson and the miracles outtakes.

the Impressions were good, not great don't get it twisted.

Mayfield was really good in the 60's great in the 70's and then fell out in the 80's onward.

lets Robert S Kelly has held a high level of R&B Music making for 2 straight decades.

Mayfield did his best stuff on soundtracks period IMO.

Mayfield didn't do anything any more different than what smokey robinson and Sly stone or Stevie Wonder or Marvin Gaye, Sam cooke had or were doing.

influential as a guitar player? yes however dicky dale had just as much impact on what hendrix did.

it takes brother Ronald Isley to tell it. he was around Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson and he said R. Kelly is with them.

take your "L" and going back in your selective "back to the future" machine and scat. ARRUH Rules the CHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you opinion would be severely wrong...And myopic even...

Music Mayfield sung on/wrote/produced....From 60's to the 70's (No soundtracks songs/albums included)

60's---

"Gypsy Woman"
"Keep on Pushing"
"People Get Ready"
"It's All Right"
"I'm So Proud"
"You Must Believe Me"
"Talking About My Baby"
"Woman's Got Soul"
"Choice of Colors"
"Fool For You"
"I've Been Trying"
"You've Been Cheatin"
"Can't Satisfy"
"This is My Country"
"Check Out Your Mind"
"Say You Love Me"
"We're a Winner"

"We Got to Have Peace"

---70's
"Move on Up"
"The Makings of You"
"We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue"
"(Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below, We're All Going to Go"
"Get Down"
"Future Shock"
“If I Were Only a Child Again”
"Kung Fu"
"So In Love"

1980's

"Between You Baby and Me"
"You Mean Everything To Me"

Hits Mayfield wrote for other artists (No *soundtracks* included..and I didn't include everything because u would be reading alllllllll day...Most of these songs charted on both the R&B and pop charts...Have fun...)

Not including HITS he wrote for Gladys Knight and Pips, Aretha Franklin and the like....

"He Will Break Your Heart"--Jerry Butler
"Find Another Girl"--Jerry Butler
"I'm A-Telling You"--Jerry Butler
"Mama Didn't Lie"--Jan Bradley
"Hey Little Girl"--Major Lance
"Nothing Can Stop Me"--Gene Chandler
"Just Be True"--Gene Chandler
"Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um"--Major Lance
"Don't Change Your Love"--The Five Stairsteps
"Let's Do It Again"--Staple Singers
"New Orleans"--Staple Singers

And finally....

"'The Wind Cries Mary' was a riff that was influenced by Curtis Mayfield, who was a BIG influence for Jimi."--Billy Cox, who was the bassist for the Band of Gypsys and long-time friend of Hendrix....

It's all there^^^^....Kells is indeed a talented dude and will go down as a modern great...But he's not seeing this^^^^.....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

FYI those aren't all classic songs and nothing he put out in the 80's onward is classic.

he wrote some important stuff for the Impressions and he did even better solo on his self, however his soundtrack work on himself, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Aretha Franklin, the Staple singers and the Eyes of Laura Mars which is underrated IMO along with "a Piece of the Action" especially his Arrangements and Production are His best things IMO.

influential and Important yes, however he ain't touching no R.Kelly.

R. has composed every known type of track in R&B world and Life.

Pied Pipper of R&B Owns the CHI!!!!!!!!!!!!

At first the Kellz thing was ok. It was you riding for you man. I get it. We ALL get it. You think he's a talented cat, etc.

I was never a fan, and to be honest, I don't really see it. This isn't about his transgressions and legal problems, or that fact that he makes music that I just don't dig. BUT: to each his own.

Maxxx, you've gone WAAAAAAY overboard with it. It's not even Stanning at this point. It's borderline obsession. You're elevating this cat over pretty much any Soul/R&B artist that ever walked the earth, and frankly, I think it's a bit misguided. You like him, and none of us can take that away. He's sold a ton of records, and to his credit, he'll leave his mark on Soul music for years to come. But to say that a whole city universally rides for this cat? C'mon, man.

Now I have no problem with you personally, and you and I have always had good interactions on this board whenever we're in the same posts. But Dude...this has to stop somewhere.

lets see a 20 year career number 1 R&B artist over the past 25 years on the charts

wrote songs for the king and Queen of Pop Music

wrote anthems, wrote club songs, standards and Great albums that speak to that.

i don't even listen to his music all the time as i listen to a whole lot of artists, however to act like he ain't been running things and to act like his contributions as a Artist there ain't been talked about is in denial.

we are cool and I ain't got nothing but respect for you and i dig your music and takes on things, however on R.Kelly you sound madd and i don't get it.

i've been listening to his music for 20 years and its the Bomb. whats the Problem?

he was up there Sanging for Sister Whitney Houston and hanging out with Brother Michael Jackson a few weeks before he passed.

that Brother is the musical truth and the king of the CHI!!!!!!!!!

i vote no.

people have put up some good artists.

my main problem with r kelly is that a lot of his stuff is way too derivative. he seems like he listens to a song or an album then spits out something. kinda like when you get a song stuck in your head then you start making your own lyrics to the melody etc.

there are a lot of truly original artists from the chi though.

honestly personally i'd probably put him behind ron hardy.

just my opinion.

and I can even see how the last year or so might make you feel like it's time to say the overall body of work is there. i'm not in denial on the scale of kellz's talent. I agree with you he has created undeniable work but I also see way too much work that isn't worthy of his skills.

more than anything I'd started to feel about kellz like I felt for Stevie in the 80's, his best days are in the rear view. love letter is a career revival, but i'm waiting to see if he falls back to the coarse side of his musical personality that, imo, completely obscures his talent. that seems to be a side of him he rarely leaves for too long. if he drops another record of the quality of love letter he'll probably deserve to top that list.

kellz did have that 10 years from say 92-03 where he ruled black music (and even pop) which is a lot more than most, but I personally wouldn't take those years over curtis's 61-72 run which includes the impressions through superfly for reasons not only including the actual music.

respect,

next time Kellz comes to LA i bet you will be first in line sitting in a Haters tent and still buying the scalper tickets to get in and sing but be hating at the same time.

"Slow Jams" from the Juke Joint" which ROd Temperton wrote for Q has the classic and unbeatable line give Me everything that R.Kelly sings. take your "L" and salute who da Kang is of CHICAGO and also Modern ARRUH&B!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q as a Artist ain't no top 5 in any part of the world. Producer you can make that argument with body of work, however as a Artist naw. not even close.

impact, cultural impact and right now "I believe I can fly" is skying over there songs and is almost 20 years old.

Maurice white, verdie and fred are from chicago phili baiey was fron denver and i just said Maurice White because he is from the CHI.

yeah ARRUH got songs that cover everything, when was the last time those great other acts had back to back years of televized weekend on centric Tv?

when was the last time those other great acts were asked to write a song for a World Cup?

Kellz wrote songs for Music Royality the King and Queen of POP.

His resume is the truth. he got the Stats and the Jewlery to back it up.

You say that but it's all about perspective. I love Sam Cooke as well as kellz but tryst ms there is a lotta ppl that hold I believe I can fly in higher esteem whether u like it or not. We neenever put our artists that are still here upwith past legends but when kellz is gone he's got all the qualitiesthat make an artist a great legend
