"The Lost Tapes of an Artist"

The Lost Tapes Theory

There are a lot of unreleased songs that never made an artist Album Collection. It's a shame b/c there are some good songs that would have sounded great on several of the top MC's albums. For example, Jay-Z's tracks "Wishing on A Star", "Only A Customer" (yeah it was on soundtrack), "Marcy to Hollywood" & "Early This Morning/Addicted to the Game" were are good songs. Jay-Z and so many other artist could take a page out of Nas book and just do a Lost Tapes for their core fans. Why leave them on the internet? If your like me, I like going to the record store and buying the CD, opening the package, reading the credits and things of that nature while I'm listing to the music. Artist that I would love to see Lost Tapes materials :

1. Jay-Z
2. LL Cool J (that New York Gangsta song is legendary)
3. Tribe Called Quest (I know Q-tip holding some)
4. The Roots (I know Questlove holding some..lol)
5. Dr. Dre....we probably havent even heard some of his best work.

What about you? Any particular artist? Have you made your own "fake lost tapes of artist like me..lol"

peace

something but I look at it this way too-

Didn't the making of the songs already cost the studio, artist, etc money?

Other than paying for samples, pressing, etc.

Isnt there already a sunk cost in those songs lying around?

So (assuming there aren't any expensive samples to clear)

why not at least release them digitally to at least make that money back?

The first three that came to mind for me are Monch, Mos Def, and the Roots.

I need to get more familiar with those Jay tracks though. You have a list??
