i like ross's beat selection and overall he has a good ear for melodies and knows how to ride beats.

BUT...

i'm getting to the point where his lyrics/subject matter are becoming unbearable. "my bitch bad looking like a bag of money/ that bitch bad looking like a bag of money" ...

you can pretty much copy and paste that line in different variations 100x, add guns/coke and you have ross's entire lyrical repertoire. shit gets extremely boring and played out.

all his buzz came from the 'trap going ham' video
wmg signed him didn't know what to do
since wmg & ro$$'s mmg joined forces, ro$$ 'absorbed' him just like teedra moses
he can say he never signed, but he looks foolish on the cover of self made
a picture is worth a 1000 words and he played himself
i expect him to throw subliminals and do songs with freddie gibbs

I bought hundreds of stock in him in 2009, but by last fall I'd sold almost all of it

(Because I'm bored at work on a Friday)

It bothers me when the Gods get to acting like the broads
Guess every team doesn't come complete with niggas like ours
Thats why I see no need to compete with niggas like y'all
I just ask that when you see me you speak up nigga, that's all
Don't be duckin like you never wanted nothin
It's feeling like rap changed, there was a time it was rugged
Back when if a nigga reached it was for the weapon
Now days niggas reach just to sell their record
Spaghetti bolognese in the Polo lounge
Me and my G from D.C., thats how I roll around
Might look light, but we heavy though
You think Drake would pull some shit like that? You never know
Million dollar meetings in the Polo lounge
Me and my man Oliver North, that's how I roll around
Shorty wanna tell me secrets about the rap nigga
I Tell that bitch it's more attractive when you hold it down
Kobe bout to lose 150 M's
Kobe my nigga I hate it had to be him
Bitch you wasn't with me shooting in the gym
(Rick Ross: Bitch you wasn't with me shooting in the gym)
Tell ? fuck it, I'm tearing holes in my budget
Bag her like we in ? and take her ass out in public
Ordered her a filet, told em butterfly it, she'll love it
She used to soda and nuggets, she really just out here thuggin
I just hittin my pinnacle, you and pussy identical
You like the fuckin finish line, we can't wait to run into you
But let me get my mind off that

29. "Miss Info and Arthur McArthur interview (swipe)"
In response to Reply # 0

http://www.missinfo.tv/index.php/rick-ross-rich-forever-producer-arthur-mcarthur-exclusive/

Rick Ross unveiled the tracklist to his highly anticipated Rich Forever mixtape, which drops at 3:05pm today. And for the most part, the Bawse enlisted the usual suspects to provide beats: J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, The Inkredibles, Lex Luger, Beat Billionaire, Boi-1da and Mike Will. But Ross also tapped some new talent like Chuck Inglish (one half of The Cool Kids), DVLP, and…Toronto native Arthur McArthur. Yup, you read that right. His name is Arthur McArthur (23). Just don’t forget it, because with a growing resume that includes Drake (“Uptown”), Gucci Mane (“In My Business”), Big Sean (“My House”) and now two tracks on Rick Ross’s Rich Forever mixtape (“MMG Untouchable”, “Mine Games”)…this multi-talented producer/musician is definitely on the rise!

Missinfo.tv’s Mr. North catches up with Arthur McArthur to get his insight on working with Ross, how Lil’ Wayne came up with So Far Gone’s “Uptown” during a Dr. Dre Detox session, his relationship with Boi-1da, and, of course,…what’s up with that name of his?

Following the groundwork laid by fellow Toronto producers Boi-1da, Noah “40″ Shebib, T-Minus, Megaman, ILLANGELO, and Doc McKinney, meet Arthur McArthur, the latest beatsmith from the T-Dot…
After the jump….

Mr. North: You caught people’s attention during Toronto’s 2008 ‘Battle of the Beatmakers’ showcase, especially in a controversial battle against Boi-1da, whose name was buzzing here in the States. How did you guys become friends after that and become a team?
McArthur: We definitely met in the battle, but we had enough respect for each other to get in the studio and start creating. The first session we did together we made “Uptown” (off Drake’s gold-selling So Far Gone EP). We’ve been doing records ever since then. 1da’s great people, he put me onto a lot of stuff.

Mr. North: You mentioned “Uptown,” but how did you become a part of the Far Gone sessions?
McArthur: 1da hit me up around Christmas 4 years ago. The plan wasn’t even to work on Drake songs, we were in there to do some songs for Dr. Dre’s Detox. While we were in the studio, Lil’ Wayne said he wanted a song sampling “Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel. We took the sample and built around it. 1da did the drums and I played the organ and instruments on it. We sent it to Drake and he killed that beat, took it to a next level… it was a wrap from there.

Mr. North: Fast forwarding a bit, Rick Ross released the tracklist to Rich Forever yesterday. We see you landed two placements on there (even though your name was spelled wrong) how did you connect with Ross?
McArthur: I’ve been building with DJ Khaled and MMG for a bit. I sent over some records, they were feeling them so I kept them coming and at this point I’ve got a bunch of music over there. I’m flying out to Miami in the next few weeks to build with them further.

Mr. North: When you created “MMG Untouchable” with Boi-1da, were you guys in studio with Ross or was it sent over to his camp?
McArthur: We made that at my studio in Toronto. A bunch of artists actually wanted that beat but it ended up with Ross, it may be on his album as well.

Mr. North: “Mine Games” features Kelly Rowland, did you know she’d be on the track? Did you have any singers in mind?
McArthur: No, that was a nice surprise. Kelly Rowland is really dope so I was happy to see he put her on it. That was great that he put her on it, I knew it needed a singer on it but I couldn’t put my finger on who would do it justice.

Mr. North: Can we expect more MMG collabs soon, possibly on Self Made 2?
McArthur: That’s the plan. I respect what they’re doing over there, I want to work on all the projects they have coming out.

Mr. North: While the average listener may not know the records you’ve worked on, which song in your career so far would you pinpoint as your big break?
McArthur: “Uptown” was the song that put me on the map. It got a great internet buzz and largely put my career in motion.

Mr. North: You’ve steadily been perfecting your craft. How would you describe your sound and where do you draw influences from?
McArthur: I describe my sound as “musical” and “cinematic”. I like to do more complex tracks that tell a story. Leaving room for the artist to breathe, but creating a deep and detailed background for them to say what they need to say. I draw inspiration from all the arts, from music and visual art to dance and books. Some of my musical influences are Timbaland, Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, Jay-Z, Joni Mitchell, Just Blaze, Al Green, Dr. Dre and many others.

Mr. North: We know your history with Drake, we’ll be hearing your work in a few hours with Rick Ross. What other big projects do you have on the horizon in 2012?
McArthur: I’m also doing some stuff with YMCMB, I’ve got a bunch of tracks on Tyga’s album Careless World which drops January 23. I’m working on Wiz Khalifa’s album, T.I.’s album. I was in the studio recently working with Sean Garrett, I also just did a few sessions with T-Mills and Boi-1da. Other stuff I’m working on is Fabolous, R. Kelly, Alley Boy, DJ Khaled’s album, Busta Rhymes, and by the next time you talk to me…hopefully a lot more.

Mr. North: Before we leave you, we gotta ask….the first thing that stands out and always gets a good laugh is your stage name. How’d that come about?
Arthur: My real last name is McArthur. It took weeks of equations and complex mathematics to come up with the “Arthur” part.

Mr. North: Wasn’t it actually King Arthur McArthur at the start of your career?
McArthur: There was. Unfortunately I’m not as arrogant as I’d like to be so I decided to drop that and stick with “Arthur McArthur.”

For more on Arthur McArthur follow him on Twitter at @arthurmcarthur and Myspace.

i think for me it's mostly the production. too many same sounding beats from different producers (beat billionaire, luger, d. rich).

my favorite part of the tape was Drake having the nerve to complain about how rap used to be "rugged" when he recently released Take Care.

I don't say that with hate...but you could mix all the hooks and verses with each other and it will sound exactly the same.

Anything and everything they put out is sure to get attention. So far I've only listened to "Stay Schemin" not surprised Macarthur produced. The TDOT cats are really paving a nice lane for themselves..

Drake's rebuttal was dope so I guess now its Com's turn? Should be interesting to see how Pusha and Com respond. Speaking of Pusha anyone catch his "What dreams are made of" video?

They got a good movement but its not THEIR time...

more YMCMB's time.

their 3 stars > MMG's stars. which really is Ross.

Wale dropped a good project but didn't get the same love as Ross or YMCMB's stars. Not even close.

Because Wale sold big. And Meek Mill will do big numbers whenever it is he drops. Over 200K first week I'm sure.

YMCMB doesn't have any big stars on the horizon (and please don't say Tyga, cuz LOL)

They haven't really built anybody yet. Drake and Nicki were going to blow regardless, but Ross saved Meek & Wale.

I think its more evenly matched. Granted Wayne sold crazy numbers (for a crap album), Nikki is hot, Drizzy is drizzy. Wale though sold pretty darn good numbers for a guy who tanked on his first debut. Meek Mill has two of the biggest singles still out not to mention those are off a mixtape. When his album drops I expect the buzz (which gets bigger and bigger) and the sales to show.

It's more of the same, but done at a high level. Same opulent claims, same tough talk, etc.

The best joints to me:

- Holy Ghost
- High Definition
- Fuck Em
- Rich Forever
- Triple Beam Dreams
- King Of Diamonds
- Ring Ring (I'm becoming a fan of Future's hooks)
- Party Heart
- Stay Scheming

the rapping is still pretty enjoyable, but i guess i was hoping for more "deeper than rap"-y production and not so much of the "self-made vol. 1" style of beats (lex luger soundalikes)

He is incredibly unimpressive from a technical stand point. Dude is saved by charisma, a good ear for beats (sorta on display here) and a talent for remarkably catchy hooks. Kendrick Lamar is a far more talented MC/songwriter but Rawse's sound is pretty enjoyable to listen to.

I see why they push the album back if this was suppoused to be ...hopefully this just some holdover tracks just to keep his name out there and he hope one of them becomes a hit so he can put it on the album.

he just came out with an album that sold better than any Rick Ross project has, as usual, and just came out with an album that, like most of his other releases, is better than anything Ross has put out.

Ross' music is like candy to me, it's cool sometimes but I can't feed off of it.

well I just don't care much about any of that (even record sales), and more to the point I don't even feel like the make the same sort of music. I'm not going to stop listening to Jeezy because Ross is out there or vice versa. That's some simple shit.

but like I said, I feel like nearly everything Jeezy's dropped is a cut above or equal to Ross at his best, and at his best Jeezy is better than anyone else making gangsta music this decade other than Clipse. it's like the difference between a full meal vs. some fantastic candy. they both taste real good but one of 'ems actually gonna sustain me.

1. Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101: 8.3
2. Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition: 8.3
3. Trap or Die II: By Any Means Necessary!: 7.5
4. Trap or Die (Gangsta Grillz): 7.2
5. Teflon Don: 6.8

6. Deeper Than Rap: 6.8
7. The Real Is Back 2: 6.7
8. The Recession: 6.7
9. The Real Is Back: 6.4
10. The Albert Anastasia EP: 6.4

11. Trappin' Ain't Dead: 6.1
12. Ashes to Ashes: 5.5
13. The Last Laugh: 5.1
14. The Inspiration: 5.0
15. Trilla: 3.6

this one is probably in that Albert Anastasia/Trappin' Ain't Dead realm, and Port of Miami would be down in the Trilla area.

a better album than Jeezy's last one. Rawse's hooks and bars are strong but the production is very repetitive. Not the case with Jeezy's.

Every song sounds the same....his subject matter is uninspired.....he gotta be one of the driest rappers out there right now...he doesnt even try to be technical one bit in his verses....maaaaaaaaan, yall need to quit saying Ross is a good rapper lol....he shows glimpses every now and then (which still ends up being mediocre) but overall he's a very corny, dull rapper

They all sound the fucking same, and they are equally lame.

The ones that don't, however, are excellent.

Keys to the Crib, Stay Schemin', the Nas one... all greatness.

its not 2006.
tm101 is the jam, but watch what happens at a public event if you play BMF.
when wayne got outta jail who was the rapper he wanted to go on tour with across the country who's not named nicki minaji?
jeezy doing club dates like he yo gotti
also high definition, rich forever, triple beam dreams, mind games, keys to the crib, stay schemin', ring ring, party heart DO NOT SOUND LIKE LEX LUGAR.
as it stands i bet that meek mill is gonna make a better album than tm103.
tm103 was a disappointment considering the wait.
ro$$ get badu to sing a hook for him, so het get jill scott...LOL
"i do" ain't nothing but a fake ass "intl players anthem"
if jeezy made a whole album of "what i do (just like that) then I wouldn't be saying anything
I was listening to hot97 yesterday and they might've played ro$$ cuts for like an hour and half straight. maybe i'm tripping...lol

Since the last Ross album, in the summer of '10, he's grown as a star by leaps and bounds. I'd be shocked if he didn't break 300K this next time out. Shocked.

>its not 2006.
of course.

>tm101 is the jam, but watch what happens at a public event if
>you play BMF.
good. watch what happens if yo play Lose My Mind, either version.

>jeezy doing club dates like he yo gotti
good, he's getting money. rather see a rapper in a club than a stadium any day.

>as it stands i bet that meek mill is gonna make a better album
>than tm103.
I'd be totally shocked. he can barely make a better mixtape than Jeezy's worst. Cool singles but that dude is crazy annoying over a whole project.

>tm103 was a disappointment considering the wait.
I was shocked how good it was considering the amount of heat he put out for free. TM103 is a great album for Jeezy, one of the rare albums that's long as hell yet only has one or two filler tracks.

>ro$$ get badu to sing a hook for him, so het get jill
>scott...LOL
Jill Scott on Trapped >>> Badu's rambling on MM3. that song was a dope beat away from being nonsense.

>"i do" ain't nothing but a fake ass "intl players anthem"
This is one of the two songs on TM103 I don't like at all so we're cool on that.

>if jeezy made a whole album of "what i do (just like that)
>then I wouldn't be saying anything
That would be a boring ass album, and that's one of my top 3 on the CD.

Rap Cameos That Pack Some Electric Punches
By JON CARAMANICA

It’s been so long since the once-legendary rapper Nas lived up to the promise of his early albums that the base expectation for his new music is disappointment. So it’s been jarring recently to hear him on Hot 97 (97.1 FM in New York), on a new song, sounding like the rapper he was in the mid-1990s: wise, with a sharp eye for detail; pouring phrases together in dizzying jumbles; and showing off the pain that throbs beneath the calluses formed by years of exposure to the streets.

How did Nas leap from confused elder statesman back to sage corner-boy chronicler? All it took was Rick Ross, hip-hop’s great fantasist.

The song is “Triple Beam Dreams,” from Mr. Ross’s mixtape “Rich Forever,” which was released online Friday to great fanfare. Nas’s verse is intense, a detailed story of a young drug dealer who doesn’t have the heart for the work:

I remember watching “Scarface” the first time:

Look at that big house, that Porsche paid for by crime.

How could I sell this poison to my peoples? In my mind

They dumb and destroy themselves is how I rationalize.

He sounds pitiable, which is to say electric. This is not only Nas at his best, but also the vintage version of Nas that made him a hero in the first place.

Give Mr. Ross credit: he hears the best in other rappers, and sometimes pilfers it for himself. He’s become an omnivore, his own repertory growing with his success, which isn’t always how things work. With clusters of meaty verses and throbbing, moody production, “Rich Forever” is almost on par with his last two solo albums, “Deeper Than Rap” and “Teflon Don” (Maybach Music/Slip-N-Slide/Def Jam), both great. In just a few years he’s become a real bear of a rapper. Powerful, indignant, protective: that’s how a bear feels, and that’s how Mr. Ross sounds, as if nothing could possibly derail him, and everyone who walks with him will be safe.

That’s reflected in the quality of the guest appearances on “Rich Forever,” which is high, almost to the point of tilting the scales in favor of the guests over the host. Rap cameos have been reduced to cheap commodity over the years, but these feel alive. Not only is a Ross mixtape an event, but there’s also something about Mr. Ross that allows these artists to be their best selves, or better than that. Or reminds them that they too can make it up as they go along.

It’s still worth remembering that even while Mr. Ross faced attacks about the gaps between his personal history and his persona, he kept working hard, choosing art over history.

So why can’t everyone else do the same? Take Drake, whose verse on “Stay Schemin” — the hook is borrowed from a unreleased Nas song, oddly enough — is phenomenally sinister, a quality he’s not known for. “Don’t be ducking like you never wanted nothing/It’s feeling like rap changed, there was a time it was rugged,” he raps, in what appears to be a swipe at Common and a dark salvo in what’s becoming a worthless war of words. “Might look light, but we heavy, though,” he adds. (The toughness appears to be contagious: Common, acting like the battle-ready rapper he was a decade and a half ago, retaliated with his own tepid version of “Stay Schemin” that takes shots at Drake.)

There’s a characteristically mean verse from Styles P on “Keys to the Crib” (it’s hard to make Styles any grimier than he already is), and oddball boasting by Pharrell, who doesn’t rap nearly enough anymore, on “MMG The World Is Ours.” On “Off the Boat” the sometimes ham-handed French Montana cleverly apes the “Atlantic/Atlantic” rhyme from Mr. Ross’s 2006 debut single “Hustlin’,” then adds some droll boasts: “I just fired my banker/Now I just rubber band it.”

2 Chainz, another rapper once maligned or even dismissed but who has lately been hitting an impressive stride, blends nimble wordplay with flashes of wit on the unprintably titled song he shares with Ross and Wale here. He’s a fountain of clever turns of phrase — “Chain cost a coupe/Coupe cost a crib”; “Every beat I’m toe-tagging/Charm big as a Volkswagen” — and unlikely bragging: “Got a side of my garage that say ‘foreign only.’ ”

“Rich Forever” also has a pair of songs featuring the longtime Ross advocate Diddy, who is all sorts of profane on “Holy Ghost”: Forget “your dreams,” he sneers, using harsher language, “this is reality.” Many of Diddy’s best songs in recent years have also featured Mr. Ross, who has eagerly embraced the role of the great reinvigorator. He’s a student and now also a role model, the forceful upstart who reminds everyone else why they started telling stories in the first place.

Rick Ross - Rich Forever

The newest mixtape from rap's most fabulous fabulist continues refining his two great songs

Spin Rating 7 of 10

As Gang Starr's Guru once posited, "it's mostly the voice" that determines your success. Even the most redundant rapper can prevail if he or she is blessed with the right God-given vocal chords. And Rick Ross is exactly that: the most redundant rapper. In his six-year career, Ross really has produced only two songs: the one where he raps aggressively about how successful he is over equally aggressive production, and the one where he raps aggressively about how hard it was to become successful over mournful, lush, and/or epic production. In either case, the sheer timbre of his voice -- an oddly booming, asphyxiated wheeze that frequently climaxes in his trademark Ungh! -- turns this monotony into something compelling. And Rich Forever, the mixtape teaser for his forthcoming God Forgives, I Don't, is quite successful at doing nothing new at all.

The Miami rapper's rise from correctional officer to would-be one-hit wonder (mocked for rhyming "atlantic" with "Atlantic" on 2006's "Hustlin'") to the most prominent pretend drug dealer of his era is still somewhat inexplicable; but at least some of it can be attributed to his near-perfect 2010 street hit "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." Ross doesn't flow, per se, on the hulking Lex Luger production -- he just wheezes allusions to prominent real-world gang figures, leaving cavernous ellipses between every fourth or fifth word as though he's running out of air. "B.M.F." has become something of a genre-defining record, not only predicting the recent output of Ross and his Warner Bros. imprint Maybach Music Group, but virtually every gangsta rap song produced in the past 18 months.

So, it comes as no surprise that much of Rich Forever follows the same formula. Ross brings the stop-and-stop-again cadences; Luger only contributes one track, but unapologetic imitators like Lil Lody and Beat Billionaire more than compensate with the one-note riot music. By all reasonable logic, everyone on earth should be sick of this sound by now, but Ross is still getting mileage out of it. The impact has dulled some -- it's hard to imagine even the best of these tracks ever resonating like "B.M.F." did -- but they inevitably will resonate, particularly among listeners who enjoy getting in fistfights on yachts purchased with drug money.

The most frequent critique lobbed against this lane of production is that it all sounds the same, and it undeniably does, but no more so than stuttered Timbaland hiccups did in '99 or James Brown loops did in '87. This is how rap operates: Every few years it pours itself into a singular aesthetic and then hammers away at it until there's nothing left. Besides, there's always the other Rick Ross song, and a few of those round out Rich Forever's indulgent 90-minute runtime.

The themes remain the same, too, with Ross still wallowing in the sort of insufferable lavishness that only could've been bred in Miami. This ethos is best summed up on the arbitrary "London Skit," a minute-long interlude in which a Robin Leach-type, snooty British character brags about the cost of his socks: "A hundred dollars a sock, two ankles, you do the math." Elsewhere, Ross raps in strained and disconnected metaphors, blurring cars, religion, dope, and women. There's a brutish charm to his writing, though. His excesses are frequently hilarious, and he occasionally lands on a genuinely artful image: "Diamonds on my neck / Call it the ghetto's guillotine." (Pronounced "gill-o-teen," naturally.)

His extravagance extends to his Rolodex, too, making for a particularly guest-heavy affair. But the cool side effect of Ross' profile as the last street-rap institution is that it forces collaborators to step up their game. Diddy hasn't talked shit this convincingly since Biggie was still breathing, and the notoriously inconsistent Nas is finally blessed with production that does his flow justice. Even Drake sounds as close to great as Drake can sound on "Stay Schemin'," as he laments Kobe Bryant's divorce settlement. But the true highlight of his verse comes when Ross hops in and echoes the kicker: "Bitch, you wasn't with me shooting in the gym!" It's nice to hear Ross' rasp put to a slightly different use on this occasion -- not as a blunt object of arrogance, but as a tool of pained accentuation.

And that's what's most frustrating about the man's creative trajectory. There is so much more that he could be doing with that voice of his, but he remains a prisoner of his own design. Rich Forever is a very good tape by a man who insists on forever remaking the same damn tape.
