- Souls of Mischief - "Focus" - Casual - "Meanwhile..."
* As a Del! fan from day one, Future Development is often the album I want to say is my favorite. (Though "IWMBGWH" slightly edges it out these days, they contend for the spot sometimes when asked my favorite) As far as content, it showed Del's abilities to blend different concepts and stories, while showing his humor, personality, and ideals throughout the album. From "braggadocio" to "storytelling", you get a little bit of everything. This, much like Casual's "Meanwhile...", is a very well sequenced album. I wish this had been released officially so the mixes were stronger because it features some of Del's best work.
* Souls record I believe was supposed to follow No Man's Land as far as timelines go. It was very strong production wise, very funky and at times "spacey", for lack of better term, and had some strong solo songs on them, i.e. "Shooting Stars" by Opio which is one of my favorite songs on the album. It feels closer to '93 Til in vibe than Trliogy sounded to either of the first 2 albums. When playing the albums in the order of 93,NML, and then Focus it makes sense to me because it feels like a mending of the 2 worlds and was a cohesively solid 1,2, and 3.
Casual's album recording wise I believe came between "Fear Itself" and "He Think He Raw". I am a huge fan of the production on this album. One of my favorite songs on this album is 'Who Do Dat'. The sameple for the beat was also used on Portishead's "Sour Times", which I am a huge fan of. ("The way that I'mma rock you though/take you deep like Jacque Cousteau/but show no compasssion/why?/cause I'm intergalactic/my mental react with unearthly tactics...") Casual really starts showing his evolution and strengths as an emcee as far as styles, cadences, and a great balance of story and "battle" rap songs. This album has a solid vibe throughout, it's focused musically. It's well sequenced and flows as an album, in my opinion.
Sorry if my descriptions sound type lame, just tried to word them as best I could in the moment.
After that, I would have to say both of Opios albums "Triangulation Station" and "Vultures Wisdom" are also 2 of my favorite Hiero releases and are both highly underrated albums
I am a fan of Hiero and check for the majority of the material they release. I'm looking forward to Phesto's solo debut as well as Tajai's new album "Rap Noire". I'm not sure what else is being rumored for release in the next year. They are all exceptional emcees with a lot of versatility and strengths.
