"The most disappointing songs ever"

So we did it with albums....how about songs? And I'm sure we've done it before, but oh well.

From that Just Blaze post Bammer made...I'll have to say Jay-Z "Kingdom come" as a song is one of the most. I remember EVERYBODY being hyped from seeing Just Blaze's Myspace/Youtube video where he played the beat...and we were like "man....if Jay came back and made that song?????" He made it, and.................blah.

As a L.A. head, I'd say that Dr. Dre + DJ Quik "Put it on me" was the most disappointing song of that era, and it basically ended what was our best year since 96 in a way that foreshadowed the next few years to come, which were basically horrible for L.A. Rap. Song was so damn average-decent...listenable for sure, but wouldn't even be dope for a Hittman album cut. Quik spit dope on it, and Dre wasn't bad, but the beat didn't move me for shit...it was just a bust of a song for sure.

What are some others? Collabos btwn artists, btwn artist and producer, reunion songs, etc. etc.

on a similar note, both the JayZ/DJ Quik collabo and the recent DJ Quik/Ice Cube collabo were also wildly disappointing.

Also:
- Common/Mos Def - The Questions (moderately funny track, but not what you expect from two lyrical monsters)

I'ma try and think of more.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the Quik + Cube collabo since it is 2011, but I think it's a coo lil track.

I'd say that the Snoop + Ice Cube "LAX" was kinda disappointing too.

Right it's not bad. It's just I know Quik is still capable of magic (that album is full of it) and that track from two west coast legends, 20 years in the making, just felt anti-climatic. But I still like it. Just didn't feel like that's what we should've got from that type of collabo, no matter the year.

Yep. Definitely agreed.

Though I don't disagree that on paper if you were thinking of Common & Mos in 2000 over some Soulquarians, that's probably not what you would have conjured up.

That's exactly my issue with it. I didn't think it really fit well at all. In the interest of full disclosure I actually like the song and laugh at a lot of the lines and stuff, I just thought it was out of place and...

>Though I don't disagree that on paper if you were thinking of

^^^that. It just seemed like a letdown considering the time period it was made and the people involved.

But again, I don't *hate* it, it's a cool, funny track. Just had different expectations I guess.

. . .and then have low patience?"

Always thought that single line made the song absolutely and completely brilliant.

They were definitely aware of the potential of that collaboration. So, they just sidestepped the issue.

For the record I liked Black Republicans too but I also agree it was somewhat of a letdown. Nas got Jay lyrically on both tracks.

I'm not saying it's a garbage song. Just that Those two on a track together for the first time after everything should have been a historical track, not just an also ran on the album.

For Jay-z to stop pretending that he wasn't having a fanboy moment, that whole mini monologue at the start of the song just screamed oh my god I can't believe I'm on a song with Nas, but I'll pretend like I haven't been trying for my whole career to make this moment happen to me.

With them both being rappity rappity dudes coming off of critically acclaimed debuts I expected bars on top of bars on top of bars. Instead we got a "chilling at a bar" type tune. Maybe it was a too clever for their own good take on the "lyricist's lounge" theme, but it isn't a good song by any stretch.

31. "Ras Kass (again) "Ghetto Fabulous" ft. Dr. Dre & Mack 10"
In response to Reply # 0

I was among those who felt like Ras had a chance to be the next big thing. Especially back then when a lot of fans believed the idea that "dumbing down" your music could translate to commercial success. Ras had the skills, personality, and charisma to win. He just needed some cosigns and the right single. As the cosigns mounted, Priority Records decided to go all in on Ras's first single. The song had significant buzz before it dropped because it was rumored he would be using the beat from the ballroom dance sequence in the "Been There Done That" video. He was able to secure a Dre verse, a Mack 10 hook, and a "Titanic" themed video for this single. The track wasn't actually produced by Dre, but at that point everyone associated the beat with him anyway. And even though I considered Mack 10 to be a wack mc, he had a pretty cool voice which fit the hook perfectly. Oddly enough, it was Ras who failed to hold up his end of the bargain. His verses are entirely forgettable outside of the horribly corny John Elway simile which was intended to be the climax of the song. In the end the song sunk just like the Titanic, and Ras's dreams of commercial success went right along with it.

But that 98 period was like the worst by far for L.A. We came back STRONG in 99 and held it down til 01, and we were on point for most of the decade until 97. So that could be part of it, just bad timing...but yeah, that song seemed to have AMAZING potential. And why the hell did I never put it together that it was the beat from the "Been there done that" video????

Also...I hated that somebody made the 2Pac remix and that was the ONLY version I was ever able to find.

...originally conceived. It was originally supposed to be the first single from the "Golden State Warriors" project, the Ras, Saafir, and Xzibit. I think it was supposed to be called "Heat," and the video was going to be a reenactment of the shootout on the L.A. streets from the film of the same name.

I'm guessing at some point Priority envisioned it as a hit single to set of "Rasassination," somehow got Dre to rhyme on it, and threw on label-mate Mack 10 for good measure. I'd rather have heard Saafir and Xzibit (both on a tear at the time) on it.

it sounded rushed. i know Pac wanted to get the record out as soon as he got released, but they really would have been better off taking their time as alot of the songs on that album haven't held up well over time.
