you have to share a basic understanding or appreciation. if you can't agree on the basics of what you like or look for in music, the recommendation isn't going to be very useful, which presents a problem when asked for recommendations.

EvERY thing is easily available; that4 aspect of mu4sic discussion boards has lsot its purpose IMO; basically, unless the per4son w4ho wants music recommended to him/¤her is totally clueless of the genre in question, Youtube or spotify does the job...

it USED to be that if a person wanted recommendations, they would actually stop,look,and listen to the stuff you'd recommend. Discography, back story, trivia, etc.


NOWADAYS?

People use recommendations to stockpile a bunch of shit and sift through it in ten second soundbites.

People just want a long ass list of shit to skim through on YouTube, and then complain that they were 'bored'. Or worse, they want you to fill their iPods...with shit they'll delete in six months after not listening to it.

- Now comes the hard part, as in the planning. We want it to be a year from now, which means starting to look for venues really soon. Was originally planning to wait a week before all that, but I think we're going to try to stake out some places the coming Saturday. I gotta keep in mind this is marathon, and that if he start driving each other crazy this early in the process, we'll murder each other in six months tops.

- I confess it was cool seeing Tone in the Listening Room on Friday. Good to hear more Toney Tone beats.

- Finally got the J-Live album, as it didn't get shipped to my record spot until yesterday. And then I forgot it at my loft, so I couldn't listen to it on the way to work.

- Like both the Phonte album and the 9th Wonder album. The 9th album quietly surprised me. Gonna bump it a few more times to get an even better sense of it.

- I confess that as much as I love baseball, I can't really get into watching the play-offs yet, because I'm still bummed that the A's tanked so badly. Blah. At least the Niners are winning.

The best way I can describe it is a chat room with a soundtrack. Except everyone is there for the music rather than the chat.

You go over there, load music into your queue (all of which must come from your hard-drive or cloud drive), and then play said music. Everyone in the room has their queue and gets a turn. There's no limit to how people can be in any given room. The Lesson room generally has four to seven people on any given day.

The regulars tend to be: Invcpl, Howisya, Ghetto Black, Lonesome D, John Book, Austin, AraQual, Joey Joe, Steve O Tron, Ajav, Denny and Shockzilla. I get in there when I can. Occasionally Old Pro and Silky occasionally come through. Funkymusic has started to become a regular. Rhymesandammo is there a lot, but he doesn't play as music as the others. And apparently Tone comes through there as well. People play all sorts of shit; a lot of it tends to be "electronic" or whatever the kids call it these days, but Lonesome D always reps for the old time and World music.

Anyway, I think you'd have with it. It's generally the most active during the U.S. work day. Most of the contributors are on the East Coast, so it starts to die down towards the end of their work day.

9th's didn't resonate with me yet. i'll try again. and contrary to what i've seen here a few times, Erykah's vocals ARE on beat on that remix. the drum beat probably throws y'all off because the snare doesn't hit on the 2 and 4, but on the upbeats.

i have a hard time getting into sports PERIOD when my teams aren't involved. fortunately, this is possibly the greatest few weeks of overall Detroit sports i have EVER seen. Lions are on FIRE (thank you, Jesus!!), the Tigers have the opportunity to knock those damb Yankees off, the Spartans won last week, the Red Wings won an exhibition game, etc., etc. shit is incredible. i'm not NEARLY getting enough sleep though. if *I* am this exhausted, i can't imagine how the players must feel.

Yeah, truthfully I've only listened to it once. Got it Thursday and only got to listen to it Friday afternoon. I didn't even notice on that Erykah song.

I'm rooting for the Lions, but unseat the Packers will be tough in that division. I'm also rooting for the Tigers in the AL at least. I've got a soft spot for the Brewers and the Phillies in the NL.

Save for like 2 songs, it's an amazing album.

yeah, it really is a good year for women artists. in addition to feist, st. vincent, and pj harvey, you have bjork, tori amos, florence + the machine, adele, me'shell, matana roberts, nneka, ladytron, and little dragon among others.

I've seen both of them before, just not together.

And I don't remember much from the Jay show as I got black-out drunk and actually lost about 5 hours of memory. I remember Jay's first few songs..............and then I was back home.

Show was in Baltimore.

I lived an hour-plus away in the VA suburbs.

I'm going to the one here in Atlanta later this month.

- I dunno. I think that Time record gonna be good. "IfIWasYourMan" sounded kinda...iffy but the general groove was there. I hear a lot of Jesse in some of those tracks, or rather, they remind me of his last album. It's gonna be their "20ten".

- speaking of 20ten: I listened to that again. damn, that was a good record. Though, the very first song on it sounds like "F-Zero" to me.

- Something about those classic Jam/Lewis ballads seem ageless. "A Broken Heart Can Mend", "Tell Me If You Still Care", the joint they did for Change... like, some of the production might be dated but the actual composition still "works". I wonder if they get a lot of covers.

- I had this weird thought about Jay and Kanye. besides their MC-ing talents, they work so well because they're so similar. I think Kanye is way more vocal about his insecurities, while Jay is very businesslike and controlled. to put it in car geek terms, Kanye is an Alfa Romeo, and Jay is a Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

- My favorite Wayne song might be "Let The Beat Build". That beat is borderline hilarious/"Otis"-like (what makes "Otis" hilarious? GACKADOPPANUHNUHNUH and the OTIS SCREAM)
