"Why do people prefer 3 stacks over Big Boi? [OutKast]"

I do enjoy listening to Dre's verses more personally, but why is he near universally regarded as more skilled?

But to be fair, Outkast may be the most balanced hiphop duo of all time. I don't think Dre is galaxies apart from Big Boi in lyrical skill as some people do, I think they are very very close in talent, with Dre getting the slight edge. But Outkast and De La are the closest duo in talent level in hiphop I think.

Nuff said.

Overall, I do think that Big Boi tries to get by too much on style without substance at times.

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

Sir Luscious Left Foot is one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time and really made me appreciate Big Boi. Made me pay more attention to his older Outkast verses too.

I think Big Boi requires a bit more patience, Andre 3000 hits you with the kind of stuff that blows your mind first listen.

He has stolen the show plenty of times.

War is absolutely dope; I would like to hear another Big Boi album with songs similar to that. SLLF was cool, but I feel he can do better.

SLLF was better than Speakerboxxx, but Speakerboxxx had the better highlights.

He can make a great album, SLLF was good but it doesn't get as much rotation from me as it did when it dropped.

i think the real question is whether these damn record labels are going to let Andre have more involvement in Big Boi's next album. That would honestly probably be the closest thing we will ever get to a new Outkast album.

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

his rhyme schemes are complex without being difficult to grab a hold of on first listen. I always thought Big Boi would get kind of taken with himself as a rapper and do the Kweli thing where he's kind of showing off by cramming words in where they don't naturally fit. But everyone's style is unique so...

As someone stated earlier, dre's shit jumps out...he's the more flamboyant and outspoken one too...big boi plays the back and holds shit down...

sllf was the illest album last year, and in the future could prove to be one of THOSE albums...

dre hasn't done that alone, so they both have their strengths, but they are very equal...and at times i prefer big boi, most of the time...my preference only not saying it is law...

Sounds like a small gripe, but Andre knows how to really take you on a ride with his verses. It always seems like Big Boi spit one too many bars & always has to end it with a 'know dat' or 'yeeah' or something like that.

Other than that, somebody already mentioned earlier that 3 stacks verses seem to be more compelling. Skill wise their equals.

I was all about Andre when the only OutKast album I owned was ATLiens and I didn't have a CLUE what either of them looked like. At that point I had literally only seen the cartoon versions of them on the art, and I didn't know which was which.

i mean, speak for yourself dude... i can tell you exactly why Dre and Mos are more popular than their counterparts - connection w/ their audience.. i dig Big Boi, dig Kweli.. but at the end of the day, through diction, delivery, more cohesive verses, clarity, rhyme sceme, *it* factor (on *wax*, not this male modeling contest you're envisioning), cadence, variety (in 3000's case at least), verses that leave you thinking (Kweli has this too), these dudes have advantages over the other halves of OutKast and BlackStar.. not to say Big Boi and Kweli suck at any of those things, but Dre and Mos just happen to do them better...

and just to humor you and your point, Andre prob. scores some points by obviously having a more interesting look than Big Boi, but that has to do w/ his wardrobe and i'd say that's showmanship... and does looking like you're having a great time while rapping (Mos Def) play into ppl growing a stronger attachment? yea, you could make that argument.. but that has to do w/ body language and smiling over "looks"...

although i think your argument is laughable, even when i give it fair consideration, i think it still falls way short... either that or you're getting it mixed up w/ something other than what you said..

mos and andre3000 are more marketable than their counter parts
it is what it is
i remember ppl use to think talib was better than mos back in the day
why did mos blow up so much when the pair became visible to the mainstream?
hmmmmmmm
there are numerous examples of this from the chick in the LL video to jill scott vs. erica for "baby u know u got me"........

I think it boils down to personality. When you look at duos the one that is either; an alpha male, more attractive, better technical skill or more impactful style, that person will be the one that people gravitate to. Some things are tangible and some ore intangible but if folks gravitate to one the other is looked at as less skills whether true or not.

Tribe = Q-Tip his style (Women love the voice brothas dig the lyrics)

De La = Pos the alpha male of the group (just my impression) also his technical skill is ill and Trugoy's lyrics aren't straighforward (ppl don't always like that)

Mobb Deep = Prodigy same as the guys above plus Havoc really focused on the beats

Black Star = Mos with his acting background emoted more panche(sp)

CNN = NORE just stands out personality wise

Run DMC = DJ Run like the others just stands out more and he's slightly iller lyrically over DMC

Leaders of the New School = Busta has a high powered energy with his delivery that caught on and made him a standout

and so on.......

I think I'm being downsized.
All of the job functions that I was hired for are done overseas. And my managers aren't including me in group e-mails. Also, I haven't received my paycheck in the last month and a half.

. 3000 is just a very very special mc and artist. big boi is the ultimate option B. as a tandem, unstoppable. Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Scottie P was a very nice starting small forward. But Jordan though....

In response to Reply # 0

1. better voice
2. more melodic flow
3. slightly better breath control
4. more interesting lyrical matter in general
5. less awkward/clumsy/lumbersome verses
6. greater musical charisma (big boi seems like the cooler one to hang out with IRL, but Dre has always been cooler on the mic)

together DRE got that thing that a Leader is suppose to have. talent, charisma and pressence, however upon further review without Big boi he is just good but not great on his own and it shows.

they truly need one another because one without the other is just alright but the sum of the parts isn't that deep.

as Great as they are as a Group it now shows that both of them combined solo can't hold Ice Cube's Coors Beer Can.

you see the industry is set up with groups to have that "IT" cat and when said cat never fully pans out read Andre 3000 then you have two good parts but not that One all of that piece that wasd hyped and put on display.

His last solo project was beyond good.

Again Big Boi's last solo project was beyond alright, and so was TLB. Both albums were beyond alright.

You are out of touch.

I have found just as many people like Big Boi as they do Andre, for the same exact reasons people like Dre, same reasons others don't like him

albums would be running things as we speak.

i mean folks dig them big time, but the solo stuff is cute stuff and nice in places but doesn't sustain for a long period.

folks want Outkast as Outkast not no half baked alter ego attempts and cute cameos here and there.

and rap fans fell for it.

I mean, this wasn't the argument until Miss Jackson came out. The way I see it is when they hit the pop market Dre's flamboyance was a big part of their success. He stands out. Big Boi looked like a rapper, and Dre looked like someone out of Parliament. You notice him more. MTV/Pop market got a hold of them and it looked like they were damn near on their way to the Gwen Stefani/No Doubt treatment. The problem is they were always just about equal MCs and very complimentary. I can't say that there's a point in their career when one of them consistently had the better verses in their tracks. It's just that when you see the nigga in jeans standing next to the cat in the pink feathery space suit, of course you're going to notice the guy in the pink feathery space suit. It just makes sense. As an MC Dre is mad flamboyant too. He just does shit that Big Boi doesn't. But there's a lot of shit Big Boi does that Dre just doesn't too.

Generally when people talk about Dre being the much better MC, I assume they're people who didn't really listen to OutKast, or aren't huge hip hop fans who didn't get into them until Miss Jackson came out.

Big Boi is a good emcee, I still say Speakerboxx is better than Love Below.

But 3000 had the quotables, fashion and songs (i.e., "Hey Ya") that marked him as more than your typical rapper.

It's sad that some think Andre carried/was Outkast all those years, but he had better marketing. I mean, how many other rappers can go 8 years without an album and still have a significant number of people checking for them?

Between this thread and the other one that claims 3000 couldn't even pull off a solo...

seems like some people are making outlandish satements/questions to motivate Dre like he reads this board or something...

damn, The Lesson is turning on 3 stacks?

Big Boi is dope of course.

But 3000 is the better rapper, more versatile, and more interesting.

SLLF was cool...but VERY over rated on this board.

In response to Reply # 44

i mean he has the goods but being a solo artist and making that mark is a whole different can of worms. to me they just are better feeding off of one another.

Dre has the factors and yet I don't see him or Big Boi making it solo.

IMo Andre 3000 solo might have at best a David Lee Roth/Morris Day solo run in that a cat that is cooler than cool in a Group appears larger than life, but solo is just getting by.

in truth Big Boi would have a better solo career of the two and yet he would be missing so much if he had have been a solo MC.

in other words they truly need one another.

with features back in the day but its the other way around.

It certainly helps that Andre had the weird factor working for him and then was dating and had a child with a popular r&b singer.

Big Boi on the other hand can sometimes come off as an egotistic asshole.

Just saying
