"NaS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2Pac"

It's like that, y'all know it's like that.

Anyone that disagrees is either sentimental, a consensus-chasing follower, or one of them casual-ass rap fans whose opinion ain't worth a damn.

An assorted album of tracks Nas was too foolish to even end up releasing are better than any single album Pac ever made.

I wanna hear your bullshit objections before I start bothering to explain to you further why you're either stubborn, stupid, or a bit of both.

But make no mistake.........Pac Lost.

and he *was* a legendary persona, a very engaging MC & a dude with countless classic songs.

But his batting average is lower than Nas song-for-song & Nas has made a lot of missteps/spotty-albums over the course of his now two decade career.

But Pac is dead.

Therefore he would have been some revolutionary figure rather than a dude who figured out a way to shake Suge's sheisty ass, got rich, happy, had a family and ended up on a sitcom.

Nas should or at this point does pretty much knows he's got one central skill that he excels at, which is rap his fucking ass off.

Dude can illustrate scenes with casual details in a way that nobody I've heard before or since can.

When he gets into other areas whether it be getting into acting like Pac (he made DMX look like Mean Streets-era Deniro & Juice-era Pac look like On The Waterfront Brando by comparison), mogul-ing like Hov (I won't even bother mentioning his terrible underlings or failed label), or trying to be worldly/political like KRS/Chuck/etc it does not & will never work.

But as a straight-up MC/artist, there aint that many that could hang before, during, or likely after.

And Pac falls short of Nas as a straight-up rapper.....it's not really that close.

I'm embarrassed for whoever is my age (35) that would actually disagree because I know most of them wouldn't have even entertained the discussion during dude's living years if someone tried to pretend otherwise.

It's okay to admit it.

I agree. We are the same age and I feel you. I was on college in 1994-1998 & I always thought Nas was much better than Tupac. I love Pac music but getting killed like that and then looking at his lyrics from Me Against the World though his final album made him a legend. Nobody called him a legend before then. In 1996 Nas was lyrically better than 2pac and was riding high with It Was Written. (for those who thought it was commercial go review it again)...now Tupac was the West Coast king at the time with All Eyes on Me but I always thought Nas was better..I'm not bias on the coast thing either as I reside in NC. Pac was a great MC to me though.

it should have been titled 'Pacs Son' instead. But really..you can try this corny, mc skill thing but that doesn't change the fact that Nas isnt seeing Pac in any way. But Nas is still top 5 all time no doubt

I'm not here to evaluate these rappers tastes or applaud their decision-making ability (after all, a bright/thoughtful dude like Tupac's fate ended up in the hands of an amoral sociopath like Suge Knight).

I'm talking about who's a better MC top to bottom.

Nas was a shitty live rapper in the 90s. Luckily so was Pac so that's a wash. The mid-90's was like the nadir of live rap really but that's a whole different post.

Nas put out at least two albums while both were living that were better than any Pac made or any his camp put out later.

Nas has moments of actual verbal dexterity that you will fuck yourself up trying to rhyme along to from a technical level.

Pac has elongated syllables & echo-chambers/stacked-vocals.

His biggest 'what the fuck he say?' rewind moments are rants rather than rhymes.

Nas gave you the minutia that added up to the masterpiece, Pac gave you the grand statement that leaned heavily on his own mythology that was later sealed with his tragic death.

Pac grabbed the kind of borderline-cliche/simplistic-sloganeering type of phrases that Maya Angelou gave Janet for the movie & flipped them in a convincing way by sheer force of his personality.

Nas casually tosses off lines either subconsciously or unconsciously that will end up becoming those cliches a generation or two down the line.

If you are a true fan of this genre & divorce yourself from the emotion of it, you will admit to yourself that this is not close.

All Eyes Me is trassshhhh. its a bunch of dope singles a few cool album cuts and about 20 filler songs.

Me against the world is pretty good but still like 5-6 fillers.

Makaveli (imo) is pac's best album, but it's nowhere near Illmatic, and while it's very close to IWW, IWW is still better.

Most consistently dope lyrics over a longer period of time (93-present) than your favorite rapper.True story. For all the shit that gets talked about "over peeps heads","corny 5% speak",bla bla bla,he's got Platinum albums. Still sounding as good as ever in 2011,(see,"Nasty" and his verse on Wayne's LP).

As much as I'm a fan of early '90s Pac, and as much as I've been seriously disappointed at times by Nas' output, this is a true statement.

on the short list for the greatest rapper to ever live.

I always go back to that Blaze Magazine list, which in my memory was the first major publication to rank MCs like that 1-50 & I don't remember there being an outcry over Pac not being in the Top 5 or so (think he was 7/8 at that point which was late '98 or early '99).

I also find it funny to those who say Jigga is a revisionist historian & wasn't thought of like that in the mid-to-late 90s that he was already in the Top 10 right behind Pac by the time Volume 3 dropped.

In response to Reply # 0

Like Kurt Cobain the way he delivered his words it made you connect and feel everything he was trying to get across but really not that great lyrically. This is where hardcore fans of both get confused and seem to think that the feelings they get from it is from how lyrically gifted they were. I enjoy and listen to both but if another person tried to deliver the same song it'd never be as good (Hence why most Nirvana covers either sound corny or forced).

Nas on the other hand actually is an extremely gifted lyricist that has a way with words that few come close to. Both had questionable taste in beats at times but 2pac imo would have had a harder time in the late 90's if he lived than Nas (He really liked cheap sounding beats). At the end of the day I mean I don't think it really matters who's better, I doubt anyone will stop listening to 2pac just b/c Nas is better. Does 2pac still have crazy obsessed fans or has that slowly faded out as his followers realized that he's actually dead?

i'll give u that nas is the better rapper, but so what.
2pac had stronger songs and thats what matters to most people
imo 2pac doesnt get enuff credit as a songwriter.
that nigga had some of the most unconventional hits in his time.
brendas gotta baby, keep ya head up, dear mama, so many tears etc.
which showed 2pacs reach as an artist and songwriter
so if u wanna compare the 2 on music alone, 2pac no contest.
and we can go song for song nigga.
nas has had the advantage of living longer too
and his body work still aint touching a nigga who died 15yrs ago.
in fact, go look at nas greatest hits album
and then go look at 2pacs greatest hits.
if u wanna big up nas, just big up nas.
cuz u cant say anything to tarnish 2pacs musical impact.

>i'll give u that nas is the better rapper, but so what.
being a better rapper is a fairly crucial part of the equation generally, brushing it off as if that's nothing when comparing two legendary rappers kinda shows where you're at.

>2pac had stronger songs and thats what matters to most people
>imo 2pac doesnt get enuff credit as a songwriter.
>that nigga had some of the most unconventional hits in his
>time.
>brendas gotta baby, keep ya head up, dear mama, so many tears
>etc.
He wrote better songs about women & better sentimental radio cuts, that's about it.

The only songs of those that I still bother playing on my own on that list is So Many Tearz.

>which showed 2pacs reach as an artist and songwriter
>so if u wanna compare the 2 on music alone, 2pac no contest.
oh it's no contest, just the other way.

>and we can go song for song nigga.
we could, however you don't think rapping matters.

>nas has had the advantage of living longer too

that 'advantage' is a double-edged sword, particularly since most rap careers are measured in dog years & Nas has still got one 20 years in while Pac punched his ticket to immortality 15 years ago.

>and his body work still aint touching a nigga who died 15yrs
>ago.

Nas' work up through '96 trumps any Pac album.

>in fact, go look at nas greatest hits album
>and then go look at 2pacs greatest hits.

Pac is a better 'hits' artist for the most part, shit Pac's greatest hits is better than any album he made while alive, Nas has a better song-for-song ratio, is a much more gifted MC, & has left much of his best work on the cutting room floor.

If Nas had died like Pac five years into his career with people taking care of his unreleased material's release, he'd be looked at much differently by the music-industry mythologists.

>if u wanna big up nas, just big up nas.
>cuz u cant say anything to tarnish 2pacs musical impact.
>
I don't think stating Nas is better should be tarnishing anybody's musical impact, y'all just get butthurt over someone stating the obvious.

all Nas has really has is lyrical skills with his writing, but he didn't switch up as much as Pac.

Pac didn't start off strong and then fade he still kept you interested.

most folks when it comes to Nas loved him at first, and took him as good and then lost interest.

Nas is one of those dudes had he stayed focused and not gone for shock value he would be higher.

Nas is a Odd Artist. somewhere between common and Jay Z is where you might find him and I mean this, Nas is a Platinum selling artist, but he tends to settle and never gets beyond that next level with that other audience.

he is one step further than common but a step off from Jay z and that eats at him.

Nas's colabs aside from a few didn't hit like Pac's.

Pac pulled a 360 between Me against the world and all eyes on me.

Pac has more replay value IMO and as much as I respect Nas as a All time Great MC, he just never held my attention as much as 2Pac.

Pac just had a raw way of bringing it.

Nas is a would have, should have and could have been better MC than what he settled for IMO.

Pac moved me more.

and got a honorary pass in death,etc.. the Man had a way of rapping and nailing his point with such conviction and honesty that people felt it like that.

Nas on the lyrical tip had that for a moment, but he was confussed and lost his energy before he got where he needed to go with it.

the irony of 2Pac was that he had a underdog attitude and approach which was raw and it was flawed and yet he connected way more than said rapper that might could take him in a Battle, but the presentation and the way things are delievered they weren't touching Pac.

Nas never hit folks like Pac did. as respected for his talents sure, but as far as being that game changer and making you feel every word and leaving that type of energy on his every word? NAW!

Nas has a great rap voice, is eons better as a writer, & for better and/or sometimes worse has switched up his flow/approach/persona more times than Pac even if you only included him up through Pac's lifetime.

>Pac didn't start off strong and then fade he still kept you

well, no rapper started off as strong as Nas did but getting murdered 15 years ago has certainly helped Pac not 'fade'.

We didn't get to watch him get rich, get comfortable, put away the angry young man schtick, focus more on acting & become borderline irrelevant in terms of music like Ice Cube.

Nas despite his missteps is still releasing #1 albums that go at least Gold or Platinum, headlining tours & making music his sole focus without becoming a pure nostalgia act.

I don't really know exactly what this all means but you've said yourself that you don't really consider yourself to be a big fan of rap music as a genre.

I will agree Pac is more digestible to casual fans of rap while living and then even more so in death with all the tacked-on mythology & added sense of gravitas.

I think you mean 180 but Nas pulled just as much of one from his debut to his second album, however both were better than any album Pac released.

i'm a big enough fan of the genre and you forget i was with it from back in the day. i just don't feel it has the shelf life of other styles of music which we have discussed in here many a time, because things in rap are so trendy, new sounds, new slang, new logos, etc.. only a very few ever make it beyond a certain point and that is a fact.

now back to the topic at hand.

other rappers have died, but Pac just had that "IT" and he was raw with his.

a product of the Black Panthers and then getting into the hollywood scene and the music game. dude had message songs, feel good songs, uplift material, party songs.

2Pac was the peoples champ period. Nas is a cat who hit big and wanted the same very thing Pac had and he just didn't move the people in the same manner on that level.

Nas worked with quite a few of the same folks as Pac and what happen?

folks want to say well Pac died and it is a Sympathy party? that is a Major (L) if there ever was one for you because

it proves just how much important Pac was than Nas will ever be that folks are still talking about Pac 15 years later, still embracing his music

you still see Pac clones

you still see acts being compared to him,etc..

Nas has his place and i know deep down the Pro Nas crowd wishes it was more, but Nas just never brought the goods near enough and settled quickly.

being a skilled MC and writing skills is Great, but what else are you going to offer over time and time again?

Pac struck a cord that hasn't been matched nearly fully.

he was that raw breed mixed with complexitys and being accesible in a twisted way.

in truth Nas is easier to digest than Pac when you think about it, because Nas has been accesible as well, but his problem is over thinking and wanting to be more than the material he is working with calls for.

to some folks Nas's career has been dead for 15 years.

that his acting was at least on par with his rapping (and in my opinion long-term would have eclipsed it once he got opportunities to be in better films than straight-to-video Mickey Rourke joints).

But if you don't think that his actual life story (dude was like living/breathing performance art) & then subsequent death that made him a martyr has greatly swayed the perception of him to put him on some kind of GOAT list ahead of guys like KRS or Nas who are far superior MCs with better catalogs than I don't know what to tell you.

We'll just agree to disagree.

you can talk all the Hollywood talk about him dying you, etc. and guess what that novelty and fanfare can carry you for a year, 2, 3 maybe 4 or 5, but how do you explain away 15 years?

and suge knight outta give up his Hood Pass for those corny studio tracks he put on pacs voice after he died and guess what? they still sold.

folks breathed his words and sentiments.

Nas had that one time and point and then settle for shock value and gimmicks.

lets see one Man died before his time and the other man's career died before its time. you know who is still remembered.

you going to have to take a Major (L) for this because in another thread i said the average rap artists prime and peak or that the general public cares about you is 2-3 years tops much like a Running back, and this cat still got folks talking and catching feelings 15 years after he passed?

not to mention he influenced Biggie.

I've also never tried to say that Pac didn't have something that made him connect with folks, he clearly did/does.

That's not the end-all be-all for me.

I don't care if I ever hear 'Dear Mama' again.

Nas' debut doesn't really have a hit on it yet is often regarded as maybe the best album the genre's produced (and miles beyond any album Pac ever put out, because Pac was really more a 'songs' artist than an album artist, not that there's anything wrong with that since you could say the same thing about James Brown).

Pac having posthumous hits over wack-ass Mister Mister 80's cuts or muzak-versions of Bruce Hornsby with schmalty vocals over it only further proves the point that the people gobbling up that bullshit are in a lot of cases as corny as Suge & them were in raping this dude's corpse.

I'll take my own favorite 40 Nas songs over my favorite 40 Pac songs.

i mean if a cat builds a catelog that is how they are remembered and also Pac had songs that weren't hits and believe me I know cats who will wait until there mother or father is asleep and jack there diamond cross's from around there neck and be like Gator from Jungle fever and pawn it for a Makaveli bootleg disc etc..

dude had a appeal and reach that Nas couldn't pay Columbo enough money to solve that mystery.

you see Man you gotta have the hits and then you got the other stuff.

Pac reinvented himself into many characters all on the same label.

early pac from digital underground had the message songs, party songs and in between

then he went thug/poetic

then on to death row

i mean his career shows you the balance of complexity and contradiction all wrapped into one and it worked that man struck a chord no matter what rabbit he pulled out of his hat.

Nas tries that and folks only want his poetic smarts they ain't buying him any other way and it messes with him because he just doesn't connect beyond.

Pac was so bad you could take a chris deburg song and play it behind Pac and folks would eat it up. he just connected man and it is beyond a hit record though that doesn't hurt.

i dig nas back in the 90's and i think he is one of the Greatest MC's ever, however he can't carry 2Pac's Doo Rag and he knows it.

who have essentially turned into hip-hop's version of Elvis fans.

Or one of those deluded folks who thinks 2Pac would have started the revolution by now when the reality is he'd be ten times more likely starring on a TBS sitcom.

I liked Pac but it ain't that serious & he ain't on that level.

Nas amongst others is clearly a better MC & the stuff I'm reading in reply throughout this thread generally falls into one of those three categories I laid out in the OG post.

And Nas defintely tried to swagger jack Pac at several
points.

Pac is the most swagger jacked rapper in history,
by far.

But again -- Nas is my #1 all time, so its neither here
nor there.

And the recent 2Pac backlash is stupider than the
sentimental 2Pac overhype. 2Pac was actually *that*
transcendent, charming, fascinating, and his music
was actually *that* good.

2Pac was the most transcendent figure in the history
of hip-hop, and the most bitten...entire eras of niggas
careers were created to be just like him (Nas being one
of them).

Nas just happens to be the best combination lyricist/rapper/
figure in history, which is why he's #1 all time in my
opinion.

But to use Nas to try and shit on Pac in any way is stupid.

comparing two legendary rappers shouldn't really be an issue unless you can't get beyond emotion or personal investment.

I like Pac. Nas is just a better rapper, that shouldn't make you mad especially when you know it's true.

possessed more of that than Pac but "greater" he is not.... Pac's sum was greater than his parts.

In all honestly, you can compare just abt any universally considered top 10 MC next to Pac and they probably stack up better than he in the areas where ppl expect MCs to be strong in but that's what makes Pac's place in HipHop so singular and so interesting because he can't as a rapper be defined just in the traditional "how great a bread and butter lyricist he was," or how metaphorically latent his raps were because his connection with and influence on demographics, both young and old, blk, whte, latino, male and female can't simply be measured in such narrow standards.

And to think, Pac accomplished all he did in such a short amount of time, too. (1991-96)...that's incredible. Nas didn't reach iconic status honestly til perhaps his beef w/Jay-z. That again speaks volume abt Pac's influence.

when it comes to which artist has had the greatest impact on the culture at home and abroad, whose music has been more impactful, which of the two artists has been borrowed from the most, which is the most imitated, the most influential, and the most ORIGINAL, Nas loses by a landslide...and I love Nas but even he has copied certain things from Pac, too.

"star quality?" foh lmao...

Moreover, you're comparing Nas to Pac when Pac has been dead for 15 yrs while Nas is still making music. We don't know where Pac would be artistically speaking had he still been alive today or what new grounds he would have broken. Pac did what he did in a very short amount of time, even for HipHop standards (1991-1996), and if you judge Nas' career between the time when Illmatic 1st dropped (1994) and 1999, which is the same number of yrs it took Tupac to establish his place in the HipHop pantheon, there is no comparison. Lets not forget that by 1999 ppl had almost given up on Nas and it was the Jay-z beef that got ppl interested in Nas again because up until that time there were many ppl who had written him off as an artist who didn't have a real artistic direction, just someone following whatever trends there were at that time.

You can bring all common sense in the world, 2Pac has jsut become this jesus-figure and I think one has to get used to it. It's like debating Nirvana vs. some superior band (¤like, say, Pixies)-people just go on about Cobain having that *IT*-factor and yada-yada...

'singing voice' has generally worn on me after extended exposure which is why generally my favorite songs by them tend to be ones where Kim is doing at least some of the work in that regard (Where Is My Mind, Gigantic, Monkey Gone To Heaven, etc), as compared to Cobain who was a great rock vocalist.....that's not a 'pac mystique/it-factor' bullshit critique, that's my own opinion on who I'd rather listen to singing on a record.

b) as far as the songwriting goes, if we're getting into each band's album tracks, I find songs like 'Lounge Act', 'Drain You', & 'Scentless Apprentice' to be more suited to my tastes than stuff like 'Isla de Encanta', 'Vamos', or 'Ed Is Dead'. Lotta stuff of that sounds like either genre-excursions or tongue-and-cheek college-rock stuff to me.

...and I agree that Pizies had a goofy college-rock vibe in many songs that was rooted in astuff like iolent Femmes, Dead Milkmen etc. However, those songs usually rocked or were interesting and they added a sense of "humor" to the band that made the albums more colorful. I don't agree about the genre-exercise thing though; "In utero" was far worse in that regards IMO, especially since the Rapeman/Melvins-style noise-rock songs reeked of "Look at ne, I'm rebelling against stardom!" and tried too hard; Pixies meanwhile were just goofing off to me and kept it in their established niche..

I meant specifically the 'border song'/spanish vibe of two of the cuts I mentioned as far as genre-excersises, the others were more 'collegy' which was in line with their vibe.

"In utero" was far worse in that
>regards IMO, especially since the Rapeman/Melvins-style
>noise-rock songs reeked of "Look at ne, I'm rebelling against
>stardom!" and tried too hard;
to me the only real 'anti-song/noise' cut on there was 'Tourrettes', the rest were still melodic at their core but just with fuzzier production/more distortion via Albini....which was probably a natural reaction for Cobain due to how slick the production was on the previous album.

There was probably a happy-medium that he would have found from there, which is why I like how all those cuts off either album sound live better than their recorded versions.

But they're still good songs for the most part, I'd take their track-by-track average above the Pixies but then again the Pixies had a lot more at-bats so you could take that either way.

Pixies meanwhile were just
>goofing off to me and kept it in their established niche..

First the Lesson compares him to BIG, then Ja-Rule, DMX, 50, Eminem, TI, Jay-Z, mutha fuckin Treach...now Nas. at least the lesson picked a better artist this time. fuckin treach, lol.

THE MOST COMPLETE HIP-HOP ARTIST OF ALL-TIME vs. one of the greatest lyricists of all-time. not fair to both artists, disrespectful to Pac. Nas had a smoother flow, larger vocabulary, and better lyrics...on paper. that's it. leme hear another rapper, especially someone like nas, rip up the "what'z your phone #" beat the way Pac did.

There are only 4 artists overall careers you can compare to Pac and yay-z barely makes the list. they are snoop, ice cube, eminem, and jay-z. i guess you can throw krs-one in there so the triple OGs don't get mad.

if he's rhyming over beats like the Outro of Lil Wayne's Carter IV (and that's not even prime Nas)

i was actually impressed with how nas rode that beat. first time i've heard him over a southern/140-150 bpm beat.

basically.

plus, on some straight emcee shit, i think nas is entirely on point when he said 'name a nigga i ain't influence'. plus, there's a huge elephant in the room in the fact that eminem has said pretty much since the beginning of his career that his biggest artistic influence is nas. listen to infinite. and if there's anybody with more of an 'it' factor, mainstream acceptance, rebel persona, or whatever the fuck than pac, it would be em.

nas is the gold standard in terms of lyricism. pac is the gold standard for bluster and pseudo-revolutionary bullshit. what have niggas latched on to most from pac, the 'thug life' mentality or the 'revolutionary'sound bites?

overall tho, i agree with the Bomb, Nas is light-years ahead of pac as a rapper.

Lebron couldn't win a chip without two superstars from his draft class. He didn't just need help. The nigga needed the cheat code to enable god mode.(c)Kira

IMO

If I had to choose, it'd be Nas.

So yeah, def better than Pac, better than Jay, Rakim, Big, or any other MC that normally gets thrown into these conversations.

I agree that Nas was/is better...And that this new album is the goods and it deserves the buzz that it's currently getting (Nas is in a zone...and it's his most complete album in a minute....)

But.....

It ain't better than Makaveli.....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

their names to the discussion, obviously he himself considers them his true peers still, even though they're obviously not around.

They're too different to be truly compared anyway. At least Nas and Big are the same "style."

comparisons can & will happen, Nas just happens to be better in this case.

Jay mentions Pac as well & he's better than him too.

Deep down you probably know this stuff but don't wanna say it out loud for whatever reason so you created that 'too different to be truly compared' plea cop.

Nas is the greatest RAPPER ever....levels TECHNICALLY over pac.

but...

Pac is a worldwide ICON, on that Marley, Monroe, Elvis shit...a fuckin ICON.

You go find me a Nas tribe in Africa that beefs with Jays tribe...

you go find me kids in fuckin iraq rockin nas shirts and throwin up W's

go find me a whole coast that was willing to ride and DIE for nas the way the west, midwest, down south and niggas in other countries was ready to go to war for Pac.,,,Nas and Big had the east support, that's it.

What pac lacked in techincal skill he more than made up for with that intangible most MC's never master....the ability to connect to EVERYONE. Old white people love tupac, little kids, gays/lesbians/ Stupid niggas, Smart niggas, fuck I met fuckin skinheads that play tupacs shit...the man could connect to the average human beings struggle from an organic place, where they felt every fuckin thing he said because they themselves have been through that.

Nas grew up in QB but he himself said he had everything he wanted from his folks...Pac was a broke ass kid of a fuckin black panther dope fiend. Most of us didn't grow up getting shit for christmas...pac spokd for US. Nas speaks for us too...but pac spoke and he MADE you listen...MADE you feel It.

Like I said...Nas is the greatest RAPPER ever, but Pac is more than a rapper. That niggas a fuckin Milestone in AMERICAN CULTURE. You can twist this shit anyway you want...but the WHOLE world can't be brainwashed off some hype shit bruh, Pac was really that impactful....cry about it nigga.

I would never try to pretend otherwise, dude was a gifted actor, made some great songs & was living/breathing performance art in terms of interviews/trials/'moments'/etc.

But that ain't enough to lose touch with all perspective if you're more than a casual fan of the genre.

He never made a classic album. He never had many or really any 'rewind' verses.

He was a tireless worker & a great singles/songs artist in the tradition of James Brown but without any of the innovation.

The notion that he would have somehow been starting the revolution right now rather than starring on a TBS show in 2012 is a romantic one that I understand why exists but don't feel compelled to buy into.

Nas certainly has holes in his game, sorta like Rakim did (KRS on the other hand could do pretty much anything well, Jigga is kind of that way as well but on a much larger level).

However what he brought to the table was enough to far outweigh those chinks in the armor & certainly enough to be above Pac in the pantheon.

I think most folks realize that deep down.

These are 2 compLeteLy different artists. The onLy thing they have in common is they both rapped. Nas didn't have the souL 2pac had. Not one 10th the souL. I'll Leave it at that...

Nas has iLLmatic and it was written &there is no denying his LyricaL prowess or impact on the hiphop cuLture -- or even his status as a haLL of famer and east coast OG. But nas hasn't ever & wiLL not ever fuck with 2pac as an artist, icon, Legend, or sheer genius based soLeLy on proLificness... cuLturaL impact, and the infLuence he had on an entire generation--- that spanned across MULTIPLE age groups and races..... across every fuckin state in the US. PLus. PLUS even the Ladies fucked with pac.

Fuck the stupid shit. Pac wins every time and in every category except for the 'most LyricaL' award. But Look at how much corny shit nas has been on... for aLL the points he scored for iLLmatic & it was written-- he Lost ALL that shit on aLbum #3 and went downhiLL from there. Nas fLaked harder then aLmost any mc, ever...

so yeah, Pac can have the 'icon' status over Nas, sure.

He was also a better actor, had a better backstory, was a more captivating interview, considered more attractive to women, became a martyr figure, etc.

This post was about rapping/catalog & you know, actual music stuff, Pac's coming up short comparatively speaking on that end.

All Eyez On Me's second disc outside Picture Me Rollin & the title track is pretty much disposable.

Nas has got four albums better than any Pac ever made.

Pac was better at singles though.

*shrug*
