"Friday Fun Post: Who Are You Musically?"
Fri Aug-12-11 11:58 AM by OldPro

Every day in the Lesson we have posts where someone is proclaiming something sucks while another person is calling it classic. When I read stuff like that I usually take who's posting what into account... Knowing who someone is musically really can help explain a lot. Those of us that have been around here for a while pretty much know where other OG posters heads are at... but there are quite a few people here that I really don't have a handle on. I thought it would be fun for new and old posters alike to shed a little light on who they are musically.

The way this works is simple.

Pick one artist from each question. Some are similar artists, some vastly different. In the cases where you may not care to listen to either artist, pick with the idea you're going to be stuck in a room with nothing else to do and one of these artists will be playing.

This is not about who you think is more talented, influential, or any of that... just who would you want to listen to between the two.

I'm not professing this to be some scientific test or anything... still it might be fun to see how people answer.

Which do you consider curve balls?

Some of my picks are close but "have to listen to forever" pushed some over even if I thought who they were matched up with might be "better" .

but when you picked D'Angelo & the Roots I figured you to be someone that came of age during the neo-soul era... which actually explains you not picking Janet and Mariah now that i think about it.

I love Hall & Oates and similar groups like Level 42. And 80's Madonna is gold.

I eff with Janet stuff, too, but Mariah I was never that big on.

>The Beatles

1 GOAT vs 4.

>
>Elvis

I thought I was going to put Sinatra, till I realized that I own 2 Elvis albums and only 1 Frank, so I figured I had to be true. Matter fact, that's gonna be my measuring stick for all artists who I don't really care about on this list.

>
>Prince

Love you Rick, but it ain't close.

>The Rolling Stones

1 GOAT vs 4.

>
>Earth, Wind & Fire

Between the two, I think the variety of EWF would keep me going.

>Stevie Wonder

I kinda wanted to say Jimi, but Stevie has done too much.

>Janet Jackson

Not even close.

>Mariah Carey

This was one of those "neither" situations, but fuck it, I like "Fantasy."

>Sly Stone

This answer would have been different a few years ago.

>
>Led Zeppelin

Not a huge fan, but do I really need to hear "Fanny Be Tender With My Love" for the rest of my life? Zep it is.

I am not up on Cameo. Sorry guys.

Nas won?

>
>The Commodores

UNDER-RATED. *clap clap clapclapclap*

>Maxwell

sorry maxxx, it's Max.

>
>Parliament/Funkadelic

Fuck you for this decision, by the way. Still P-Funk might be the greatest thing since unsliced bread. Cause, ya know, somebody HAD to say "tear that shit off!"

>Mint Condition

But only cause of Mint's rock elements.

>D'Angelo

were this D'Angelo vs New Edition.... I prolly still would have picked D, but it'd be a lot closer.

>Steely Dan

Again, neither, but Steely Dan's backing musicians>>>>Elton's

>Kenny Rogers

"Islands In The Stream" for the win.

>Outkast

Beatles, P-Funk, Kast = Spit's Holy Trinity.

I'd prefer to never hear a single note from either of them, but in that scenario, I'll go with the bad I've heard even less of.

>Beach Boys over Cameo, Jay over Pac, and Madonna over Janet
>really gives me some perspective lol

Hey... I love the SHIT out of Cameo, but I'm sorry; there is hardly any music in the entire world that fucks with Pet Sounds-era Brian Wilson.

Beach Boys vs. Cameo was no choice at all.... If you had given me Beach Boys vs. Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder or Prince, THAT would have been a challenge!

Jay over Pac: Another no-brainer. I don't like Pac at all, never have, never completed understood all the obsession over him as a rapper (as opposed to as a personality/icon, which I *do* understand)

Janet vs. Madonna.... I didn't give it too much thought, but Madonna just has so many tracks that I love so much and I've only intermittently really felt Janet (musically) after Rhythm Nation

>I have to say the Maxwell pick kinda surprised me though

maxxx is my man, but I'm not into Robert on that level!

It's one of 5 benchmark questions here.

You said it's an easy pick.... and it is. But how you pick really says a lot about where your ear is.

*edit*

And let me be clear I'm not making right or wrong judgments

>And let me be clear I'm not making right or wrong judgments

Anyway, re: Madonna... It just occurred to me that the main reason I picked her was because of that "80s" mix on Reunion.

I don't remember hearing "She's Not Me" when it first came out, and I thought, man... Madonna doesn't always hit the mark when she comes out but she keeps on trying, doesn't she? Out of "the Trinity" I think she's the one who today hits it most often (of course, one of them is no longer here)

So I've been keeping Madge in fairly high esteem of late

Truth be told, I ride for everything by 'Pac during the Digital Underground/2Pacalypse Now/Strictly 4... era, and, to a lesser degree, Me Against the World.

After that though? Like Death Row era? Nah man. He forsook the Bay and decided he wanted to be a Blood, and shit stopped being "real" and got waaay to over-exaggerated.

>The Beatles
>or
>Michael Jackson

Mike, no question. though the Beatles are GOATs

>Elvis
>or
>Frank Sinatra

Frank all day.

>Prince
>or
>Rick James

eff you for making me pick. Both.

>Bob Dylan
>or
>The Rolling Stones

Stones.

>Earth, Wind & Fire
>or
>James Brown

this is kinda like Beatles vs. Mike... James is a GOAT but I listen to way more EWF

>Stevie Wonder
>or
>Jimi Hendrix

Stevie Wonder will win a head-to-head with anyone you can list. But this is a tough choice.

>Madonna
>or
>Janet Jackson

Janet, for Control alone.

>Hall & Oates
>or
>Mariah Carey

Hall & Oates.

>Bob Marley
>or
>Sly Stone

this is a tough one. I'm gonna say Bob.

>Led Zeppelin
>or
>The Bee Gees

Zeppelin.

>The Beach Boys
>or
>Cameo

CAMEO >>>>>>>>>> .... no Maxx-o

>Jay-Z
>or
>2Pac

mmm. Jay-Z in a photo finish. I like some Pac records WAY better than some Jay ones though

>The Commodores
>or
>The Isley Brothers

Commodores in a photo finish. Isleys are classic, but Commodores from Machine Gun to Commodores 13 are as close to unfadeable as it gets for me in R&B

>R Kelly
>or
>Maxwell

Maxwell on GP

>Parliament/Funkadelic
>or
>Marvin Gaye

Marvin, and I love P-Funk to the death

>Mint Condition
>or
>Jodeci

Eff you for this one too, LOL. Mint Condition in a photo finish, though I really really really will ride for Jodeci's downtempo music (and the New Jack Swing of their first album). DeVante had that whole "atmosphere" on lock... THAT is their legacy, more than the "R&B thuggery" IMO

>D'Angelo
>or
>Bobby Brown

Hmm. I'm tempted to say D'Mumblo but Bobby Brown actually had a cool debut, and a MONSTER follow up... and then it's hit and miss since then. It's a toss-up.

>Elton John
>or
>Steely Dan

Steely Dan all day.

>Kenny Rogers
>or
>Rod Stewart

Hmm. I'm not sure for this one. Kenny Rogers seems to have the records that last longer in your mind, but they can be real heavy on the schmaltz...

>Outkast
>or
>The Roots
>(shout out to afkap for this one)

I'm gonna go with ?uest and 'em on this. The Roots, even at their "experimental" moments never turned out some bullshit like The Love Below or even Idlewild.

Outkast is one of the all-time great groups in rap music though... and if I had to rank them on a list they'd be higher than The Roots just because of the (I hate to use this word) "impact". But when they stopped being about "rap"... it was some bullshit

even making "un-rap" music, the Roots never lost that, and that's why I'd listen to them more often

it's a very slight preference over the other.

Rick and Prince is a tough one for me. late '70s to early '80s, Rick. Though that's my favorite Prince era ever. post-1985, Prince. Even though that's a huge territory to cover, and there are some Prince records I just don't follow in that expanse. I have, however, bought more Prince records in recent years, just because Prince has been alive to make them. and the last couple of them, have been actually good (20ten, Lotusflow3r...)

and only because of the "albums" with D'Mumblo

Bobby has one all-time great album, one underrated album, and a whole lot of other material that is hard to catch

I can see that King of Stage was attempting to do what Don't Be Cruel actually did, and Bobby's "character" was the same on both albums... it's just that the NJS style really allowed him to flourish

>The Beatles
>or

MJ & it's not even close. You can just give me Bad & Dangerous and I'm still taking Mike.

>Elvis
>or
>Frank Sinatra

I dislike Elvis but hate Sinatra... dude sounds like his nose is full of snot. At least Elvis can actually sing.

>Prince
>or
>Rick James

Prince or course

>Bob Dylan
>or
>The Rolling Stones

Stones. Dylan don't have a Hot Stuff or Fingerprint File

>Earth, Wind & Fire
>or
>James Brown

EWF is much more versatile. I get bored listening to more than 3 JB songs in a row.

>Stevie Wonder
>or
>Jimi Hendrix

Easiest pick here.... Stevie

>Madonna
>or
>Janet Jackson

Janet

>Hall & Oates
>or
>Mariah Carey

Hall & Oates

>Bob Marley
>or
>Sly Stone

Tough one. Not really a fan of either. I guess Marley as long as I can have some Smokey too... and I'm not talking about Robinson.

>Led Zeppelin
>or
>The Bee Gees

There's no band I hated more than LZ growing up... Bee Gees easy

>The Beach Boys
>or
>Cameo

Cameo of course but I do like some Beach Boys stuff

>Jay-Z
>or
>2Pac

The only rapper that ever made me care about something other than his beats... Pac all day.

>The Commodores
>or
>The Isley Brothers

I could pretty much flip a coin. I'm going to say Isleys just on the fact the have a larger catalog.

>R Kelly
>or
>Maxwell

Maxwell but I could probably find just has many R songs I like. Max is my pick based on batting average.

>Parliament/Funkadelic
>or
>Marvin Gaye

Another hard one... I'm going to go with George and them just because I think their highs are higher (literally too)

>Mint Condition
>or
>Jodeci

Fuck Jodeci

>D'Angelo
>or
>Bobby Brown

Don't Be Cruel >>> Voodoo by a greater margin than Brown Sugar>>> Bobby... King of Stage had a few cuts too so the answer here has to be Bobby.

>Elton John

Steely Dan if just for Aja

>Kenny Rogers
>or

Not a fan of either but Kenny is easier on the ears.

as I stated this is all about what you want to hear. while I respect Jimi's playing he's not really making music that pleases my ear. I value melody over just about anything else so of course Stevie is going to be my pick out of the two.

I know you're not that much into the 60s and early 70s, but it's just hard for me to imagine any Black American saying this about James.

(I mean, if *I* had said it, it would be more evidence of my hatred of American Blacks....)

Similarly surprised by this.... though at the same time not.

LOL I know that for your generation, there was no band, no cultural phenomenon more emblematic of archtypal whiteboyism than Led Zep! I've tried a few times to think of that the modern equivalent would be, but I'm not sure there is one... because whiteboys ain't whiteboys no more like they were in the 70s!

it wasn't until hip hop drove those grooves into that ground that I started to get a little bored with his music.

Still I'm not saying I dislike or never want to hear JB's music... it just doesn't hold my interest the way EWF does.

And on the Sinatra stuff... man it always drove me insane when i saw how he was revered. I guess I take after my grandfather in that sense because he used to rail about how overrated that dude was. When I saw Bernie Mac go in during an interview with Bob Costas I damn near stood up and cheered. Costas being completely incredulous about what Bernie was saying made it even funnier. You just don't hear people speak "truth" like about about Frank.

I will have to think twice about my vote. I would most likely listen to more Bee Gees (and Gibb family) music if I had the option.

The "drum nerd" in me would go to Zep... plus I'd blame my first few years of life for that too. and no, there is no "Zep" in 2011... LOL

I think it's very clear that despite a bit of straying, my music "ear" is turned more to ('70s) R&B and jazz-isms more than anything else. which is why Prince/Rick is such a tough vote for me.

Prince in his early years of studio albums really spoke to the melting pot of sounds I was exposed to early in life. But Rick was more hardcore rooted-in-R&B...and that would explain why I'd listen to his music more.

the problem with Rick was, he barely had any material after 1985 (I remember maybe about 3 albums that barely made a blip), but in those early years... before Prince was -Prince-, Rick definitely was the no-brainer pick. This, after I said to OP -- that after 1985, or to be more exact... between 1989 and 1998 or so, I wasn't listening to a lot of Prince. When Prince decided to be a full-on "artiste" I think he kinda lost me a bit. And then when he tried to get with the rap thing, then ... LOL

42. "I'll Try This Q&A Musical Choice Thing Out"
In response to Reply # 0

>This is not about who you think is more talented,
>influential, or any of that... just who would you
>want to listen to between the two.

Well here goes my answers:

>The Beatles or Michael Jackson
I never was a big fan of The Beatles but I am tired of hearing MJ's music since I grew up on it, but I still rather hear some MJ over The Beatles.

>Elvis or Frank Sinatra
Never cared for Elvis Presley and still don't so Frank gets my vote and I do like some upbeat Sinatra tunes too.

>Prince or Rick James
I grew up on both artists but Rick was always a commercial act to me so I heard all his hit songs it to me it was just that commercial but Prince's music was kind of epic for me cause he ventured on the line between r&b, rock, & pop, so Prince gets my vote here.

>Bob Dylan or The Rolling Stones
Rolling Stones without a doubt, never cared for Bob Dylan's voice, the music is decent but can't get over the voice at all.

Earth, Wind & Fire or James Brown
EW&F is tops for me, even though James Brown is a legend and I love a lot of his music but I liked the JB's more, but I can listen to EW&F's music all day and be put into a good mood cause of their tunes.

>Stevie Wonder or Jimi Hendrix
Wow this is a hard one cause I don't care for either artist that much, but if I had to choose Stevie would win.

>Madonna or Janet Jackson
Madonna gets my vote I like Janet's music but mostly her hits, I've always liked Madonna's jams even the not-so-popular tunes.

>Hall & Oates or Mariah Carey
Personally I like both but Hall & Oates is definitely worth the ear time if you want to hear some good music, not saying Mariah never had good music but I only care for her first four albums everything after that is where her music gets questionable.

>Bob Marley or Sly Stone
Wow neither would really satisfy me fully cause I only like certain tunes but both but not entire albums and so on, but if I had to choose I guess I would go with Bob Marley cause I can tune out when his music is playing sometimes.

>Led Zeppelin or The Bee Gees
Led Zeppelin gets my vote, shit The Bee-Gees is nice and got some great music but nothing they have done is as dope as Led Zeppelin's music (yeah even the bad stuff); but don't get me wrong I like The Bee-Gees too.

>The Beach Boys or Cameo
This is easy, Cameo, never cared for The Beach Boys...NEVER.

>Jay-Z or 2Pac
Another easy choice, Jay-Z gets my vote, 2Pac is average at best plus I only like about five songs he's ever done, he does have some songs I can listen to but overall it's just average, but I was a Jay-Z for a while up until "Blueprint" then he went downhill for me.

>The Commodores or The Isley Brothers
Wow, I'm not sure who to vote for on this one cause both got deep catalogs of music that I like but I guess I'll go with Commodores even the stuff after Lionel left is good and the early funky stuff is great.

>R Kelly or Maxwell
Oh this is easy, Maxwell gets my vote, I can't listen to an entire K.Rells album to save my life, I would go crazy if I did.

>Parliament/Funkadelic or Marvin Gaye
These artist choices are getting harder as it's between artists I'm not feeling so much, but I guess if I had to choose Parlifunkadelament would get my vote; never been a big fan of Marvin's music just certain albums & songs.

>Mint Condition or Jodeci
This is easy, Mint Condition, never liked Jodeci but I do like the stuff K-Ci & Jojo did as a duo when they left Jodeci.

>D'Angelo or Bobby Brown
I guess Bobby Brown would get my vote here but cause I like D'Angelo's 2nd album but not his first and Bobby got a bigger catalog and more songs that I like than D'Angelo (he needs to record more tunes to be up there where Bobby would be).

>Elton John or Steely Dan
Steely Dan is a favorite of mines, so Elton John lost this round but he got some good music too, but nothing better than Steely Dan's music is at though.

>Kenny Rogers or Rod Stewart
Damn not sure but I'll probably just pass on both.

>Outkast or The Roots
C'mon this is easy The Roots would win by a longshot, never cared for Outkast like that.

The Beatles
or
Michael Jackson

(MJ..dig the Beatles but MJ has more songs that I love especially if you include J5 material)

Elvis
or
Frank Sinatra

(Can I choose neither? Ok if I had to it would be Elvis)

Prince
or
Rick James

(Prince)

Bob Dylan
or
The Rolling Stones

(Stones)

Earth, Wind & Fire
or
James Brown

(James)

Stevie Wonder
or
Jimi Hendrix

(Stevie)

Madonna
or
Janet Jackson

(Janet)

Hall & Oates
or
Mariah Carey

(Hall & Oates)

Bob Marley
or
Sly Stone

(Bob Marley)

Led Zeppelin
or
The Bee Gees

(Zeppelin)

The Beach Boys
or
Cameo

(Cameo)

Jay-Z
or
2Pac

(Pac)

The Commodores
or
The Isley Brothers

(Isley Brothers)

R Kelly
or
Maxwell

(Maxwell)

Parliament/Funkadelic

Marvin Gaye

(damn this is a tough one...I'll go with Pfunk..today)

Mint Condition
or
Jodeci

(Good one. I'd take Mint Condition live but Jodeci on record)

D'Angelo
or
Bobby Brown

(D'Angelo)

Elton John
or
Steely Dan

(Elton)

Kenny Rogers
or
Rod Stewart

(Rod Stewart)

>The Beatles
>or
>Michael Jackson

If we include Jackson 5/Jacksons in MJ, I vote for him on the strength of about a dozen of kickass singles and "Off the Wall" and "Triumph". If it's just MJ solo, I'd go with Beatles on the strength of "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" beating "off the wall"-I never liked Beatles like that and I was never an MJ fan either...
>
>Elvis
>or
>Frank Sinatra

Easily Elvis. I like Frank but Elvis was like totally rock'n'roll early on and really amusing later...

>Prince
>or
>Rick James

Very difficult but as much as I like Rick James, Prince just have a stronger catalog. Prince
>

>Bob Dylan
>or
>The Rolling Stones

Stones by a zillion miles. One of the top 3 Rock bands against the most overrated and dull dude ever...

>
>Earth, Wind & Fire
>or
>James Brown

EASILY James Brown. I like EWF a lot but James Brown in his prime was everything I love about music in its purest, most distillated form; E¤WF sounds bloated and slick by comparison...

>
>Stevie Wonder
>or
>Jimi Hendrix
>

Stevie Wonder. I LOVE Hendrix but his catalog is just not fucking with Stevie's 70's shit...

>Madonna
>or
>Janet Jackson
>

Easily Madonna. In sweden, Janet is about as relevant as Kylie Minogue-I know like 5-10 songs at most whereas Madonna have a dozen or so of killer tunes...

>Hall & Oates
>or
>Mariah Carey

Don't care about either but I like Private Eyes so it will be H&O

>
>Bob Marley
>or
>Sly Stone

Sly Stone by far. I like Marley as much as the next guy but it's not my favorite reggae to be honest. Sly on the other hand was one of the best ever in his prime...
>
>Led Zeppelin
>or
>The Bee Gees

LZ. Bee Gees I don't like at all outside of some 60's songs. That said, I don't care much for LZ after the first 2-3 albums; their 70's stuff is WAY too bloated, overblown and self-consciously diverse to qualify as great rock in my book; I could name at least 10 hard rock bands that I think made better music in the same era (and yes, the list would include corny bands like Kiss and Aerosmith)
>

>The Beach Boys
>or
>Cameo
>

Easily Beach Boys. Cameo was very good but they are not in my funk top 5. Beach Boys on the other hand was one of the best pop-bands ever.

>Jay-Z
>or
>2Pac
>

Jay Z-both "Reasonable Doubt" and "Blueprint" as well as several individual songs are very good. I don't like 2Pac at all, never did; not even the first two albums.

>The Commodores
>or
>The Isley Brothers

Easily Isley Brothers. Commodores was good but not one of the best in the genre whereas Isleys did everything from great rock'n'roll to killer 70's soul and funk.

>
>R Kelly
>or
>Maxwell
>

Maxwell. I liked UHS a lot even if I haven't played it in like 10 years. I'm not a fan of R Kelly at all...

>Parliament/Funkadelic
>or
>Marvin Gaye

VERY difficult, I can not answer this one, sorry!

>Mint Condition
>or
>Jodeci

Jodeci but needless to say, I'm not a fan of either.

>
>D'Angelo
>or
>Bobby Brown

D'Angelo. Not to sound like an asshole but the "Don't be cruel"-album was "girly"-music when I grew up and the songs still sound too "boyband" for my ears. Meanwhile, I like both D'angelo records.
>
>Elton John
>or
>Steely Dan

Easily Steely Dan. Elton John is alongside Billy Joel one of those acts that never made an impression on me whatsoever; it's just wallpaper.
>
>Kenny Rogers
>or
>Rod Stewart

WTF? I guess I go with Rod on the strength of his work with Jeff Beck group and the Faces (killer band!). My gf loves Kenny Rogers but I'm sorry, he's just not very good to my ears...
>
>Outkast
>or
>The Roots
>(shout out to afkap for this one)

Outkast. To be honest, I only like two Roots-albums ("Illadelph..." and "Things fall apart"). I like the band in theory and "spirit" though!

Yeah you can include the Jacksons stuff. You can throw the Beatles solo stuff in too if you want but I don't think that would change much.

>The Beatles
>or
>Michael Jackson

i love the Beatles, but let's be real here. Mike Jack all day.

>Elvis
>or
>Frank Sinatra

Sinatra in a landslide.

>Prince
>or
>Rick James

Prince. easily. my former favorite artist. pun intended.

>Bob Dylan
>or
>The Rolling Stones

fuck Bob Dylan. two times. Rolling Stones by default.

to be honest though, you coulda put anybody in that slot and they'd win. i'd rather listen to Fergie. and Ke$ha. AND Rihanna. together. with no autotune.

>Earth, Wind & Fire
>or
>James Brown

this one somewhat of a dilemma, because i LOVE EWF, but James Brown is my ultimate. James.

>Stevie Wonder
>or
>Jimi Hendrix

this is a fucked up comparison, bro. Stevie though. pretty easy.

>Madonna
>or
>Janet Jackson

Janet.

>Hall & Oates
>or
>Mariah Carey

Hall & Oates by far.

>Bob Marley
>or
>Sly Stone

Sly Stone...REAAAAAAALY easily. Sly is one of the GOATs, imo.

>Led Zeppelin
>or
>The Bee Gees

The Bee Gees. not really that into Zep.

>The Beach Boys
>or
>Cameo

Cameo.

>Jay-Z
>or
>2Pac

Jigga, not even close, nor a question.

>The Commodores
>or
>The Isley Brothers

The Isley's. my first favorite group.

>R Kelly
>or
>Maxwell

Maxwell. but the Kaing gave him a jam, turkey!

>Parliament/Funkadelic
>or
>Marvin Gaye

Marvin Gaye, without question. i like the P-Funk hits, but overall, naaaaah.

>Mint Condition
>or
>Jodeci

this is probably the hardest choice for me, since i'm not swayed too far to either side. Mint doesn't suck, but they haven't had as many hits as Jodeci. Jodeci has a lot of hits, but i never really liked THEM, na'mean? (plus, Dru Hill better...take that, CherNic!)

i guess i'd go with Mint. *shrugs*

>D'Angelo
>or
>Bobby Brown

D'Angelo, mumbles and all. dude is one of the baddest singers there is, imo.

>
>Elton John
>or
>Steely Dan

this is tough, too. i'll go with Elton John.

>Kenny Rogers
>or
>Rod Stewart

uhhhh, i liked The Gambler LP. i'll go with Kenny. plus, Lionel B. Richie laced him too.

>Outkast
>or
>The Roots
>(shout out to afkap for this one)

The Roots. i like Outkast, but they've never been near the greatest hip hop group ever for me, unlike a lot of people here and in the real world.

i don't mind being different though.

Michael Jackson - due to nostalgia factor

EW&F - Due to the Charles Stepney and their side projects

Stevie

2Pac

Maxwell

You have no idea how hard this was(except for changing the "neither" part).

So, whats the verdict?

...is how damn difficult some of these choices were! The Hall & Oates vs. Mariah carey had me questioning my own existence. And Janet vs. Madonna was tough too. Now, I'm trying to get some kind of pattern or preference out of my choices.

We'd have meet at 15 if he had picked Cameo... I figured I'd be at least that high with Maxxx. As much as we go back and forth sometimes, we agree much more than not.

Beach Boys got better songs and i do pick songwriting out and Brian Wilson was a better writer and i listen to the beach boys more over time. i love cameo, but this one is a no brainer out of those two.

If there's one area where EWF would beat JB imo, it would be albums. I love james brown but outside of some live-albums, I just don't consider him an album-act at all...
