Personally I have just about every song either on vinyl or cd but it's well worth seeking out on cd or download but this is what a lot of rappers like him should officially release when they are doing more singles and guest apperances than actual self-releases.

if maybe I judge him a little harshly. I've always felt that he has top 20 all-time talent but his albums don't reflect that. I'd say he's 2 for 4 as a soloist. pretty much sounds like a beta of the album cut, mos over three classic nyc '95 beats. one of the rawest performances i've ever heard from mos. dude KILLS the "give up the good" and "incarcerated scarfaces" instrumentals before spitting the "who shot ya'" verse from BOBS.
i consider the bulk of Mos Def's best work to be non-album cuts/features.
I think even now he continues to drop songs here and there that are as good as his album material. I still think he should do a proper follow up to The Ecstatic, which was great. As great as his material is, he's still considered an underachiever because of his album output. I think if he followed up with another strong solo and/or maybe a 2012 Black Star album, he could make some noise. Every time he comes with a new joint, I'm like, Yes, the world needs to hear this dude. But if you only do radio appearances and random tracks dropped for download, its not going to reach the ears it should. Maybe now that he's on GOOD Music he'll finally do it. I mean, he's still spitting as good if not better than anyone.
