i guarantee that if you pay closer attention, you'll notice their shabby mic technique and how they were partially inaudible 30% of the time when all they had to do was sing "History" with some "oohs" and "whoas". no need to pull out the reverse discrimination card.

Have you actually heard the studio version of this song? The sample is chopped, hence the partial signing of "History". They recreated the sample perfectly in this performance.

hmmph. i feel good and bad about that. i like the band's attention to the looseness of the original band. but they could have easily found some better background singers. i don't know or care who 'dirty projectors' are, but those girls were hanging on the verge of lousy the whole time. black star ripped it, but looked a bit uncomfortable. i dunno... weird, but entertaining.

Amazing performance, loved it.

i love haley & amber's voices (i've been hooked on "stillness is the move" for forever.). the s*** as a whole is so in the pocket. being kind of geeky here, but i really, really appreciate the tempo fluctuations. it struck me a little bit that ?uesto's drumming was on some hip-hop beat s***, as if it's been a while since.

lastly, there is a magic to these folks doing it like this. dilla lives through.

what i loved about it was amber and haley doing the chopped vocal samples and getting them down, pitch changes and all

I dont even know who they is or anything, but that was like my favorite part. Not to take anything away from Talib and the rest. But they sounded like they original sample. Like ya'll now how it was chopped up? Sometimes not even saying the full word "History" just like the sample. Ya'll buggin.

these little performances are nice, but they should just go ahead and do their indie "rock" collab album if they care so much and stop teasing

it's just weird to see all these hip-hop artists for once jumping past all the (mostly lame) mainstream rockers to get to the "indie" crowd. in my head, mainstream rap and neutered guitar pop with wussy singing still don't go hand in hand.

How about Paul Simon, Tom Jones, Booker T, Jazzy Jeff, PE, Fatboy Slim, Smokey Robinson & all the other folks they've collabed with on that show already.

I don't even like Dirty Projectors' music from what I've heard (or from their last full-band trainwreck performance on Letterman) but they sounded right singing this sample and there's not much point in reading into it more than that since the band has pretty much played with any & everybody on that show so far (which is the reason I set my DVR for it, though Fallon himself has become more watchable/likeable as he's gotten more comfortable plus you can tell he loves The Legendary & always shows them the respect they deserve).

yeah, that's one of the things i appreciate about him. he doesn't play them off as nobodies and actually seems to recognize how talented they are. if only he was really funny, i'd watch.

yeah, I can't really call him 'funny' and probably never will but I don't fast-forward as much recently.
