I think Snoop signing with Death Row was more significant because while Snoop was the biggest star on Death Row, Dre didn't need Snoop to validate him as a great producer. Dre was able to groom Tha Dogg Pound and Pac into being multi-platinum acts.

But Biggie is the biggest star that's ever been on Bad Boy and also validated Diddy's talent as a producer / star-maker. I know Craig Mack's album was the first album on Bad Boy to drop but without Biggie, Craig Mack, the LOX, Lil Kim, Black Rob and the rest of the don't get the notoriety they reached.

This is my reasoning as well. Death Row was poppin before Pac and Dr. Dre was more important to Death Row than Snoop. Aftermath didn't really move the needle other than Em. BIG is the answer, he put Bad Boy on the map and is still their most important artist ever. He had enough gravity to make other cats pop around him but still was their unrivaled heavy hitter during his entire run. Plus BIG was the prototype for a lot of the acts that followed.

Them other niggas don't get a mention.

I want to include Dr. Dre but I know he counts more as a producer. I have to go with 2Pac, all those other labels still held it down but without him Death Row was a calamity, take Wayne, Em, etc from any of those labels and they would do fine. those are all tough choices.

or Jay to the Roc

Death Row was on earth of the two biggest hip-hop labels before Pac got there.

And yes...Pac dying cemented their downfall but Dre and Snoop also left around that time.

Again, Bad Boy is not Bad Boy without Big. He was so important to that label that Puff was able to stay relevant after he died on the fact he was linked to Big.

You see Puff celebrating Biggie at the Nets game right...

That's how important he still is.

and I don't watch sports so I have no idea what you were trying to be clever about lol

Bad Boy held it down because they still HAVE artists and people with some sense, it's not 100% due to Biggie, not to mention how many people clown and don't like Puff regardless of his association with Big, celebrating him and tributes are just one part but without Bad Boy actually putting out quality work they go down regardless of how great Big was.

Dre leaves, Pac dies, Snoop leaves, but I just feel like Pac's death hit them harder and brought more trouble, not to say Bad Boy didn't care about Big or should have been more crippled by his death but I don't think handling it better is wholly reflective of his importance, I just give Bad Boy props for knowing what to do.

You can't say Pac was more important to Death Row when they were already the biggest label in the west.

Death Row was more important to Pac than he was to them.

If Puff comes out swinging with Craig Mack and no Big...please tell me where he would be right now.

Bad Boy lived off Big's legacy and maintained relevance because of it for a LONG time.

I know you don't like sports but...

You're basically saying Derrick Rose was more important to the Bulls franchise than Lebron is for the Cavs.

Rose has 2 great years (Pac - 2 albums on Death Row) which revitalized them but ultimate we all know the Bulls because of Jordan...Dre and Snoop.

Dre never left.
Snoop never had a murder trial.
Suge never terrorized an entire continent rendering his label almost useless.

Yea no the ONLY, sole reason Death Row collapsed was cause Pac died. Everything else was going swimmingly.

"you do know 2Pac died and the label went to shit? right?"

...the context being "who was the most important artist to a boutique label?" So yea, that context and your direct quote would insinuate that you thought Pac's death was the catalyst for DR's demise.

Why?

He only put out 1 album on Death Row while alive, correct?

Answer is Eminem on Aftermath.
Dre gave Em legitimacy and Em breathed life into a struggling label.
Together they build an empire.

More interested in why Pac is the answer people are going with
for the original question though.

I mean, Dre while a producer... put out a RAP album that went at
least 5x PLAT on Death Row.
