Ya I heard it but wasnt too much into it. What I like about the >> album is that it is a masterpiece in mood. The doom and gloom is captured really nicely. I like that the album also has alot of different genres in it, such as electronic and punk.

Have not heard the first Beak album. Ill post back once I hear it in full today.

do you like movies? it's some classic early '80s sci-fi shit. great album.

a lot of the same. post-punk, goth rock, psychedelic rock, krautrock.

as far as krautrock, i didn't want to oversell my comments in the aforementioned other post with comparisons, but http://rossbaker.bandcamp.com/album/the-blackbirds-revenge is at times similar to freeform classic instrumental krautrock.

I heard it but not all the way through so I will give it another try today. thanks for your enthusiasm. Just heard the first beak> album and I didnt find it as "accessible" as their second. I know how much you hate that word but you know what I mean. There are some cool experimental moments but not worthy enough to buy. I will buy the second one though

i don't hate it, i just prefer artists making music on their own terms rather than catering to the perceived limitations of their audience.

>There are some cool experimental moments but not

i really don't hear the two albums as so different. the first beak album grew on me the more i listened, which probably made the second one more "accessible" to me on first listen.

Maybe I have to come back to it, but I "got" the second one on first listen. I think the first one needs repeated listens. I will come back to it in a bit. Anyhow, hope you're doing well Trav.

I absolutely agree with what Zuma said. People's taste change or they start to like music that they didnt admire as much before. Thats the great thing about music, is that you can always come back to it and your opinion might change. Next thing you know, Ill like the album >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>this much.

I don't know the beak album(s) although I've seen it(them); assumed it was some indie rock thing which is a faulty tendency of mine in general.

I also would like to be more familiar with krautrock in general - I know the main names and artists and I enjoy things I've heard but just haven't gone down all the way down the road yet.

I did buy this Kluster set a few years ago which has three of their albums (maybe the only ones in that incarnation?): http://www.amazon.com/Kluster-1970-1971/dp/B0015X6RL2/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1358316159&sr=1-1&keywords=kluster

I like this Kluster set for being a little more experimental/electronic, while some of what I gather about Krautrock in general, correctly or not, is that it can be closer to psychedelic rock and I feel like I might have to be in a particular mood --- thinking here of Amun Duul (sp?) or Ash Ra Tempel. I think I have heard Can in mumu that I liked, and by appearances I think I would probably like Tangerine Dream. Just have to get around to it someday, when I do it will probably be a lot at once.

certain genres or styles of music existed for a moment of time, often in just a region, and krautrock is one of those, but there is music since then influenced by it... i could debate people like imcvspl and Funkymusic for applying the term to current music, but instead i'm just happy they are finding and sharing music they like and opening up the conversation about krautrock in general

Put on by a onehotrix rework of their last album "Free Reign" from 2012. Interesting.

Incidentally I think I'm being drawn to stuff that at least has a kraut leaning because I've given up on rock and this stuff may be the last bastion of hope of pushing the rock sound further, rather than just let it die. Nothing I've talked about has done it yet but there's more potential for me in this stuff than whatever is being called rock today.

Internal Wrangler was amazing back in my indie heyday. Never journeyed further though, I was given the impression they lost their way along the same lines as the boys from Dismemberment Plan (post-breakup), which is a weird parallel to draw in my memory considering they weren't very similar bands.
