Lazy historians at that. The sad thing is that we did a shitload of complaining DURING THE ALLEGEDLY AMAZING TIME IN HIPHOP that lots of people don’t seem to want to move past now.
I remember the crying about IWW. I do. I remember the Biggie bashing. And the general purpose ‘if it seems popular, I’m out without even listening’ stuff. I remember some people being obsessed with sales one way or the other instead of being mostly into ‘turn the shit on, listen to it. If you like it, listen again. If you don’t and you don’t feel like giving it another shot, cool. But hush about it. Don’t spend more time griping than you spend jamming! Why do that!?’.
And we wonder why lots of kids are broken up, indifferent, and/or sad as a default setting.
