"What are your favorite lines from a Hip hop song to live by?"

You know, some words of wisdom that you heard from a rap song that inspired you to implement in your daily life.....

Mines is a random Ras Kass line from "Marinatin" from "soul on Ice"

"you know running these streets too much can get fools hated, incarcerated, or terminated"

I always kept that in mind when I found myself doing a little "too much"....lol......whats yours?

to do anything in particular ... but just that they spoke to me because I've always been the type of person who lives by these kind of lessons. And I have recommended this song to countless people over the years because of said lessons within it. From my favorite hiphop song (and maybe song in general) ever, Reflection Eternal - 2000 Seasons:

"I'm not tellin you again, so relay it to your crew
You gotta actually do
Forget the drive-in, drive-by and drive-thru
You've got-ta get out the car
Humble yourself, tilt your head back, and look at the stars"

This line, from the second I first heard it, always just spoke to me. It reminds me to appreciate the simple things in life, keep myself in check, and never take myself, or life, too seriously. Always take some time to appreciate the natural beauty the world offers me, and I'll be straight.

Really this entire song speaks to me, which is why it's my favorite song ever...but here's another line that sticks out (among many great ones):

"No excuses, see life's dilemas are set up like a mirror
Just to show you all your faces, now your understanding is clearer"

Just a great great great great line. Reminds me to use life issues and problems as stepping stones/learning opportunities rather than letting them bring me to a dark place.

I literally could never say enough positive things about this track. It's so inspiring ... and the beat is so understated yet hard at the same damn time (that piano, HiTek...god dayum).
Meanwhile, Kweli offers life lessons and social commentary throughout, while still taking some time to take aim at MCs that's "soft like Play-Doh"; the former never sounding preachy, the latter never sounding forced. Just an amazing piece of music.

for whatever reason. But yea, I mean it may not be for everyone, but that song hit me HARD the first time I heard it, and I can honestly say it has the same exact impact on me today that it had back when it first came out.

In response to Reply # 0

especially the line: Sin, all depend on what you believin' in / Faith is what you make it. That's the hardest shit since MC Ren.

I was pulling away from the values I learned as a Christian, mostly the fundamentalistic, restrictive ways and that line started me to think about faith and spirituality as a personal choice or set of choices.

I also like the: Andre, this is Andre / Y'all just gonna have to make amends.

I am not the most self-aware person and at the time, and still now I feel like one part of me is angry at myself and life for a reason the other part of me doesn't understand. when i hear that line, it kind of reminds me to accept myself as I am and learn to better understand that while I may not have abilities or the life i thought i would have as a kid, i still have the chance to have alot of good things or experiences in the life i still have left to live.

This is dope.

3k has a bunch of inspiring lines for me as well. He always found creative ways to denounce those that questioned him for being "weird" and shit. His verse on Return of the G is a great example.

From the song "Temptation"

"Rollin' down ya mask, Pushin' up ya gloves,

Loadin' up ya gun, What ya need that for?

Awe come on homie thas a stupid question,

You know I don't leave my house without my smith & Wessun.

OK, is that temptation to kill, or do you really need

to pack that to live....Temptations."

That has to be the dopest verse ever to me.

I would always say/think this (especially back in college) when I had to make 4 dollars last a whole week or right after college when I was making just enough money to pay bills, rent, and maybe eat out once and buy a cd lol.

I just like the word trife (and trifeling or trife life haha).
