They are both morally reprehensible things, done for money.
Why are we shocked/surpirsed the person who sold drugs to make money would invest in Palantir to make money? Or own an AI company? Or side with the NFL versus Kap.
And I am not coming at you personally, but I always find it funny when people are shocked that cats who dealt drugs or rhymed about dealing drugs and other crimes do other greedy, capitalistic things.
I think it's hypocrisy to only now be turned off by these guys when they told you all along who they are.

My point is that people seemed shocked when a person who used to sell drugs invests in questionable legal companies.
My point is that people took offense at someone for investing in Palantir but never voiced offense at that same person for drug dealing.
Seems arbitrary to me.

Furthermore, how can you be so sure no one here has ever voiced displeasure about Rae rapping about dealing drugs ? I'd argue that many of us here have expressed our exhaustion with coke rap on multiple occasions. Maybe/maybe not about Rae specifically, but I know for a fact multiple people here (myself included, most likely) have complained about, for example, Clipse's overreliance on coke raps. Specifically Pusha T.
Lastly, as many of us have already outlined, when considering the context it is not *at all* unreasonable or arbitrary to be more upset by a 50+yo millionaire investing in (and partnering directly with) a massive surveillance system like Palentir than we were at a teenager rapping about finding a way to make money in the hood by dealing drugs (and subsequently, getting out of the hood by rapping).

And in all honest I didn't really know until I went down the rabbit hole last week. After learning, I am pretty sure a lot of people outraged by Palantir actually knows what they do.

Also, young Rae didn’t create the conditions to where teenagers/young men felt they had to sell drugs to get money in the 80s-early 90s. The people running Palintir, Flock, etc. and their ancestors created those conditions though, and they all profit from the pain of the people just trying to survive it all.
I can think of a few reasons to get with Palintir- sabotage and to get their money and spread it around to people who need it, and to slap the dogshit out of Peter Thiel, and that is about it. Profiting off of their fucked up practices is something else though. Peter Thiel is like one of those fucked up Inspector Gadget ass cartoon character villains. But he’s real.

not condoning selling drugs by any means, but selling something to somebody who wants to buy it(even though it’s fucked up when people have addictions) is quite a bit different than monitoring people who don’t want to be monitored. Nobody signed up for this.

My town put them in around the end of July. Not even sure when it was decided to put them up or who was a part of that decision, I only found out because I was on the DeFlock map and saw one right at the end of my street. I googled “<town name> flock” and all that came up was a Facebook post (I don’t have Facebook) from the town’s police department saying they were installed (comments disabled, plenty of negative emoji reactions).
They were gone within a month.
I’m sure they’ll be rebranded or some other surveillance company will move in when the temperature around Flock dies down.

one during his time spent as a petty hustler/dealer. We love those tales. But understand he was in his mid-20's when Wu got on. At this age the god's neck is hurting from all that panoramic movement. So this is probably a dream come true for him. Criminals love surveillance just as much the people who are paid to fight crime.

This is the problem with hip hop vs other forms of entertainment.
Every tale is 100% true when its rap but fiction when its TV or a movie.
Lastly, drug dealers usually hate cops unless they are working for them. Even then.. they usually despise that they have to pay that tax.
Palantir tho, that’s a bit different. They are watching everyone. I invested and made a little money off then but once I heard what they were about and heard the CEO talking crazy. I sold that shit. Same with Tesla and anyone else in my portfolio. If I hear they are doing shitty things and proud of it. I sell. Might be foolish but I don’t want that in my portfolio.

Honestly we all invest in the destruction of others and ourselves with much less of a return on our investment. Doesn't make what Rae do right but it's way more upfront and profitable for him and that seems on brand for most Americans.
Unfortunately we're not the kind of society to fight evil beyond complaining or pointing fingers. On a slightly smaller scale of surveillance when red-light and speed light cameras were predatory in most urban areas, very very few physically fought back by spray painting or destroying those cameras. As usual we eventually gave in. That's not to say Rae is right but what's the counter to a billion dollar industry such as Palintir and why hasn't it been done yet?
