And supposedly there's more heat to come with some articles saying Europe should take a page from Africa in dealing w/the heat.
But considering most Euro nations are considered 1st world countries, why don't they just pass out air-conditioners like boxes of face mask during 2020?
Also read over 70k Europeans were murked by heat in 2003.

Mad accidents, pile-ups, people skidding off the road, etc.
They not only don't have the infrastructure (plows, salt), but more importantly don't have the knowledge & experience of what to do and what not to do. For example, it is not possible to drive on iced-over roads unless there are actual chains on the tires. They try anyway tho.
Like there's a stereotype of Europeans not drinking water, and drinking wine in 95+ degrees just isn't a good idea. Not everyone in the US has AC.

Due to winter roads in a matter of one week or winter season?
In the case of most southern states hit by icy roads and winter cold they tend to call off school and close businesses early if given basic notice. Accidents might be in the 1000's across states but I doubt deaths would be in the 1000's.
Infrastructure appears to be the biggest issue contributing to heat deaths and of course no or low ac. Howeve, with 2003's death toll of 70k plus Europeans dying in a single summer and 2022 60k,it would seem better infrastructure would've occurred already.
