"What 2020 Covid year shit do you still do?"

I still wake up at odd ass times (1-4am) and it takes hours for me to get back to sleep.
I also drift in/out of sleep. Maybe 3-4xs a week I’ll get a good straight 6hrs.

Keep herbs, garlic, lemons, honey, turmeric, fresh ginger specifically in case of covid but also for flu.

Wear a mask if I’m sick or students are noticeably sick.

Part of that is getting used to it from COVID shutdowns, part of that might just be getting older, and part of it might be that it seems to be $100 minimum just to leave the house and do anything. No matter what, it seems you end up spending at least 100.

I used to go out and get some coffee and a breakfast sandwich or something, just to get out of the house. Shit’s such a rip off now, and everything is so expensive that I don’t “get out of the house” now. If there’s not a very specific purpose that I really want to or have to do, I’m not going anywhere.

Since I work from home the only time I really leave the house during the week is to go to the gym in the morning. That's it. I started trying to make home as comfortable as possible. Buying all types of music equipment and ordering records online. I wake up, put a record on and start making coffee. Then I sit down to my computer. Simple life

Some of it feels like aging and expenses. Unless to get kids out the house and visit family/friends I’d much rather stay in.

However my mom stays moving. She’s 71 single and her whole crew are always out and about either dancing, dining, live music, church, skating, gym, vacationing etc etc, but she’s always been active even when I was a kid. However the lockdown made her a little stir-crazy so maybe she’s boosted up on being outside more.

Friday evenings, weekends…..not home. If I was, I would feel so antsy to leave.

Now I might get home from work on a Friday and not leave the house again until Monday sometimes.

My wife and I have always been exceptionally social. Plans locked in for just about every hour of every weekend. When COVID hit that obviously had to change.

Once restrictions lifted, my wife went right back to that style of making plans. I prefer a Friday nite on my couch reading and watching TV, more often than not these days. I'm still very social and have plenty of things on the calendar, but it's probably 50% of the way I used to operate.

Some of that may be due to age and having a child, as well. But I think it has more to do with my realizing during COVID that just being at the crib is quite enjoyable.

Was always big on hand washing to the point of fault, but covid took it to a new level. Started making my own hand sanitizer (90% alcohol) and still today I keep big squirt bottles of alcohol and peroxide in the bathroom and have a habit of spraying door and toilet handles.

It's honestly less about COVID specifically at this point and more about how COVID made me aware just how many sniffly/coughy people there are. I don't want COVID or the flu or a common cold or any of that shit.

And truthfully, since I started doing it, a couple of hay fever sinus infections notwithstanding, I think I've been actually sick... once? In over five years?

This streak will obviously shatter the second my kid's old enough to go to school everyday, but even if it's just luck or anecdotal or whatever, it's a large enough sample that makes me believe there's something to it. So I'm gonna keep at it.

More Christmas movies coming in 2025...

I dont keep them at home like in 2020 but I will grab a batch from the admin office at my school. Soon as I hear a kid sneeze, I give them a mask and offer them to anyone else. I will say unless I feel myself catching a cold or in close proximity to someone who’s sick, rarely do I wear them.

that I still routinely get COVID shots even after the health emergency status for COVID was lifted. I desperately want to avoid getting long COVID and I figure getting the shots is one of the best ways to prevent that from occurring.

I’ve been wondering about that: Who has continued getting the shot, stopped after 1-2 or never gotten it what their individual and common experiences have been.

Like was never big on public bathrooms, but work days are long and bathrooms are multi-stalled.

Hard to believe pre-COVID you would walk into a bathroom and be like "Hey Bob, how's it going!?" then go sit down and drop one with your co-worker right there in the room with you washing their hands.

When I was at my last job, I was only in the office 2x times a week at most. And generally that was like 1x a week. Those were my "hard pants" days.

I've been out of work for 7 months.

Whewwwww I've been in sweats 24/7, man.

My sweats/jogger game has been on point for the better part of 5 years. Since COVID I work from home/remotely 4 days a week if I'm not traveling, so I'm only in "hard pants" on Mondays. And for that, I'm basically working with 1-2 pairs of jeans (in winter) or "tech pants" (in spring/summer/fall), and a 4-5 shirt rotation.

In fact I just brought like $100 worth of more formal clothes to the dry cleaner; first time I'd stepped foot in a dry cleaning establishment in probably 2 years lol. Used to be there once or twice a month.

when lockdowns hit i found it really easy.. well aside from having a loved one in the hospital at the worst possible time, but as somewhat of a homebody the stay home thing was nothing.

but once everything cleared I wanted to go to more sporting events, more gatherings, travel around more, and it's kind of held. I accept way more invites to things that I would have normally not gone to pre 2020

I worked from home for almost 2 years until 22 and I was so happy to be back in office. Im sure part of it was already having a good relationship with my coworkers, and teams chats just arent the same as in person interactions. Maybe im conditioned, but i feel like so many people being 2D has been a net negative for society (but thats a whole other conversation). Right now i wfh twice a week. I prefer the balance

Your last paragraph on coming back to work. My hs students, seniors asked ‘why do we have to come to school if everything can be done online?’ I gave a response around different styles of learning and social networking, they were not buying it, but in class you wouldn’t know they felt that way because they appear outgoing, far from homebodies. Makes me wonder what the homebody to out&about ratio looks like for each generation.

Also, once the kid was back in school, that quiet after she left in the morning was so wonderful, I got in a terrible habit of going back to bed for a hypothetical 45 minutes before getting ready for work. But it always turns into longer so I have to rush into work late. Still struggle with that.

First time in my life I really started napping was covid WFH times. If I got tired, I'd just lay down and nap for a while. I still do the same thing now (though not at the office, obviously). 6:30pm after work and I'm tired? Gonna take a 30-90 minute nap.
