"Ancle, Auncle, Untie? wtf?"

I live on the west I have non gendered friends. This hasn't come up yet but I was just thinking, how would I introduce them to my kid?

Generally you just default to Uncle / Auntie (at least in my family)

What do you call a non-binary good friend, in this context?

You shouldn't put up with outright disrespect or disdain. Nor should your GF allow her children to do so to you.

and it's an early lesson in hierarchy, which, for better or worse is a thing - so better for our children to learn to navigate it early.

At least that's my thought.

Less developed, less knowledgeable, less intelligent, less strength, less experience, less everything.
If they were equals, they'd be telling you what they're going to eat, what time they're going to bed and waking up, etc.
They're literally in the process of learning how to be adults, and adults are the ones teaching them. They need to know that and act accordingly.
This idea that everybody's equal is what got Chamillionaire thinking he can argue science with Neil Degrasse Tyson.

those views could apply to anyone who's in whatever level of development compared to others, even other adults. someone needing guidance doesn't make them less than.

more so, calling people by their names shouldn't be considered disrespectful. formal titles, sure. call them doctor so and so, or mrs/mr last name for teachers. anything else just seems extra, unless those adults have requested to be addressed that way.

respect doesn't come from calling somebody uncle charlie. it comes from charlie actually being respectable.

Nibling is the non-gendered term for nieces and nephews. You call them by name as much as possible, but sometimes you need context when introducing them to people. I could say "Nibling" (or "Nephew," I guess), but most often I say "this is my SiL's oldest."

What are you going to do? *shrugs*. This child struggles ordering food at a restaurant on their own, but they were able to get gender reassignment surgery without their parents' permission and paid for by the state of NY.

He is just not self-sufficient and can't really move through the world without the support of his mother.

It just seems odd that a person who has so much they can not do for themselves can do this life-changing thing on their own.

But F it, my only job is to love and support my nephew the best way I know how.

Gender neutral honorifics that actually mean something. "Sir or Lady" would be even better / weirder - but again, Gendered.....

Something that scratches the itch of aunt or uncle in terms of honorific but also can be said by a child in a way that makes the affection more clear than just calling them "doctor" or whatever.

In these instances, you might speak with the relative and see if they have a preference-- would be a nice gesture to reach out and say "hey, I want my kids to be respectful but I also want them to not misgender you or make you uncomfortable in any way."

More Christmas movies coming in 2025...

I think that is the easiest route.

I remember a story about a woman saying she went and bought a bunch of shit for the less fortunate and then realized she didn’t even ask them what they needed.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
