"Trump says cleanup job continues with chicago next, then NYC"

https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/22/politics/chicago-national-guard-trump-crackdown

President Donald Trump said Friday that Chicago will be the next city that his administration targets for a federal crackdown on crime and suggested a longer and more intense campaign in the nation’s capital.

“We’ll straighten that one out, probably next, that will be our next one after this,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “I think Chicago will be our next and then we’ll help with New York.”

On the other hand its definitely nation time with a serious need to protect our youth and the homeless with free private bus rides mainly on the south & west sides of Chicago. Temporary shelters in private property cause I doubt Mayor Johnson is even considering them, safety pack walks and cameras rolling. Wouldnt hurt for some Black or Black friendly brainiacs to hack some systems (wishful thinking).

Today is far cry from the 90’s and the crime numbers are going down significantly.
Yes theres still some gang shit going on but nothing at all like the 90’s.

But on the other hand I noticed that kids are more vicious towards each other in school than outside.
Reason one - the gen pub does not play fair or sympathize just cause youre a kid and they know that.
Reason two - CPS continues to coddle kids for numbers and do ignorant things like remove police from schools. Just recently they reinstated that teachers/staff can at least hold a kid if they are acting in a way that threatens the well-being of students. Before a kid could crash out and the staff/teach would just move around them like they were a wild animal at the zoo.

When the teens gather, they really looking for an outlet, but all it takes is one lil numb nut to mess things up. And lets be real, if that kid had some guidance they’d be better and make things better around them.

So I think having more community centers, that offer recreation, food pantry, job assistance, educational/survival/business courses and mental/emotional support at little to no charge would be quite helpful. It would also help if those centers offered creative outlets in the form of music, fashion, art etc.

Rt now the foot patrol organizations should be getting buses together on the south & west sides to stave off the national guards, and even more be equipped with drones to surveillance our neighborhoods and spot national guard activity.

when i was a kid i went to the Y after school and had camps etc to go to during the summers which kept us out of trouble. now alot of the community centers have closed down so these youths dont have anything to do but get into mischief.

i feel like more police presence would make a difference, and I would like to know if that has been applied in southside and westside Chi. if i was a criminal and or gang member, i would be less inclined to shoot or rob someone if i know that there is a cop on the next block ready to respond immediately...maybe im wrong but logically it makes sense to me

69. "CPD is scary and dirty af"
In response to Reply # 11

There’s been a number of Chicago cops (newbies 7yrs or less) who’ve been gunned down by supposed suspects, even when another officer pulled the trigger. ie Ofc. Rivera.

CPD has always been big on prostitution and as soon as mayor Johnson allowed for migrants to be housed at police stations it skyrocketed with reports of organized prostitution which I dont believe any ofc has been charged for nor has there been any report on investigation findings.

Personal take: Due to the number of abandoned looking properties on the southside its easy to disguise a lot of places. Went to a fight party in what looked like a bordered up storefront but was a very nice studio lounge with stripper club with champagne rooms in the back. I believe police are using a number of buildings on Chicago’s southside as hideaway houses and brothels. When other officers do not comply or accidentally come across them, they kill them and blame on whatever black person nearby or lives in the area with a record.

Also a lot of CPD ofcs own properties on the south and west side, if ever there was an investigation done who knows what we’d fine.

As for the lack of safety on the southside, its mainly to and from those dealing, banging or domestic which many overlook as the #1rate of deaths & violence in 2020, standing as the highest murder year rate in the city of Chicago.

Governor Hot Wheels already hates us and Newsom taunted him about the crime rate here compared to cities in California (gee, thanks) so he'll probably send out an invite for Trump.

Houston has been one of the focuses of this round of gerrymandering so there's already a target on our back.

Probably not gonna touch the cities on the top of the crime list like Memphis, St. Louis, Kansas City, New Orleans, Cleveland, etc. because they are in red states, or have republican governors.

and have been at the center of some high profile partisan fights in the last few years including county leadership, the running of elections, flood relief infrastructure improvements, the school district and now electoral redistricting. I could easily see the governor requesting help from Trump as a way of punishing a city that they see as an affront to their red state paradise.

prez finna get it poppin

https://abcnews.go.com/US/58-shot-weekend-chicago-governor-rejects-trumps-threat/story?id=125134744

At least 58 people have been shot, eight fatally, across Chicago over Labor Day weekend, including a drive-by attack that left seven victims wounded, according to police.

The violent holiday weekend came as President Donald Trump renewed threats to send federal agents and National Guard troops to Chicago over the objections of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

"Chicago is the worst most dangerous city in the World, by far. Pritzker needs help badly, he just doesn't know it yet. I will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again, and soon," Trump wrote on his social media platform on Tuesday, pointing out gun violence in Chicago over the holiday weekend and repeating an earlier suggestion that federal intervention is needed to combat crime.

According to Chat….

Here’s the best year-by-year snapshot of Chicago Labor Day weekend gun violence I could verify from reliable outlets. Totals differ a bit by outlet/cut-off window (e.g., Friday 5 p.m.→Tuesday 5 a.m. vs. midnight), so I’ve used each source’s stated window and noted ranges when outlets disagreed.

Labor Day weekend timeline (2000–2025)
• 2025: 58 shot, 8 killed (ABC7); AP says 8 killed, ~50 wounded; Sun-Times tally later said 9 killed, 52 wounded.
• 2024: 31 shot, 5 killed (ABC7); another ABC7 update listed 26 wounded, 5 killed based on an earlier cutoff.
• 2023: 44 shot (34 wounded + 10 killed), 10 killed (Sun-Times). WTTW reported “at least 6” killed mid-weekend.
• 2022: 56 shot (46 wounded + 10 killed), 10 killed (Sun-Times).
• 2021: 67 shot (61 wounded + 6 killed), 6 killed (WTTW).
• 2020: 56 shot (48 wounded + 8 killed), 8 killed (Sun-Times).
• 2019: 43 shot, 8 killed (Sun-Times).
• 2018: 27 shot (23 wounded + 4 killed), 4 killed (Sun-Times).
• 2017: 42 shot (35 wounded + 7 killed), 7 killed (CBS; Sun-Times live map corroborates volume).
• 2016: 13 killed (Time; wounded totals vary by outlet/cutoff and weren’t consistently reported in one place).
• 2015: Contemporary round-ups focus on July 4 that year; I couldn’t find a consistent, citywide Labor Day weekend tally from primary outlets. (If you want, I can dig through Tribune archives next.)
• 2014: Reports around that time point to ~3–8 killed, ~20–37 wounded depending on the outlet/cutoff; precise consolidated tallies are sparse. (Example ABC7 recap references 8 dead, 20 injured over Labor Day weekend.)
• 2013: At least 8 killed, 25+ wounded (CBS).
• 2000–2012: I couldn’t locate reliable citywide Labor Day-weekend roll-ups from major outlets or CPD releases that use a consistent weekend window. Coverage in those years is typically incident-based rather than consolidated tallies.

⸻

Notes on methodology (why numbers differ)
• Cutoff windows vary (e.g., Fri 5 p.m.→Tue 5 a.m. vs. Fri 6 p.m.→Mon midnight), which is why totals can differ across stories for the same year.
• Mid-weekend updates (“at least X shot…”) are often lower than final tallies published after the weekend.
• I prioritized Chicago Sun-Times, WTTW (PBS), ABC7/WLS, AP, and CBS Chicago—all of which regularly track holiday-weekend counts.

Okay, please elaborate on what the SOMETHING that needs to happen is?

If it's overwhelming force applied with surgical precision and all responsible safeguards that prioritizes not hurting the innocent over a sustained time period with a metric defined that is not 0 crime but much better than current rates and not applied in a racist manner- then I'll agree!!!!!!

What you're going to get is Herc season 1 from The Wire and his gang.

Red states are economic parasites on the rest of the country, and commit most of the crime. News like this just serve as misdirections, clickbait, and doggwhistles for the nazis.

(not every wknd of course) over the span of years in 1 or 2 areas of the city is a glaring problem. add in gang/drill influence on the country and beyond...what city needs attention before chicago does? and im not negating the political implications but again 50 shootings over 3 days is 50 shootings

edit: i saw a video earlier this week with a guy laying on the ground outside at a track meet or some type of outdoor event maybe a highschool football game in Chi and he was pleading for the violence to stop, during the melee. bro said we cant even come to an event outside without shit getting shot up.

But they don’t. They’re using it as an excuse to harass black people, brown people, poor people, etc. and cause chaos. They need their talking points - this is a way for them to “look strong” to their idiotic base.

If they actually cared about the people, they’d put some money into the schools, youth programs, etc., and work on providing affordable housing for people.

in any way view trump as an altruist but if his actions put even a dent in the situation and save a few lives then is it worth it?

My man said if it puts a dent in black deaths and saves lives, maybe its worth it.

You say it's not at all worth it. Why not? Because he didn't do the same in Red States?

That's showing more concern about red state versus blue state than the actual black lives at state.

My concern would be soldiers who aren't trained in policing roughing up and hazing Black people like ICE is doing immigrants. Then I could understand it not being worth it. But it's not worth it because of some partisan political angle? SMH.

I haven't seen any footage of troops harrasing people and my family in DC tells me that they are standing around with guns, shit we've had in NYC subway systems for years. It's debatable whether it deters crime, very definite probably a waste of resources just to have for presence and to pick up trash. If Trump actually cared about cleaning up DC he could have set aside a billion dollars for Trump's Trash Troops and paid the city workers to pick up trash and beautify the city.

But he doesn't. He is just pulling this stunt, but if the stunt ACTUALLY puts a dent in crime without harassing people and making people's lives worst, why would I give a f*ck?

I'll say it again, Dems/Progressives are terrible when they talk about crime. If someone says 45 people were killed over the weekend in Chicago, saying shit like "well that's 20% lower than last year" or "that's in line with historical averages" is what it sounds like when you don't give a f*ck.

Gotdamn right its not worth it. Memphis, St Louis, Cleveland, New Orleans, Jackson, MS, have some of the worst murder rates in America. If this was about reducing crime and saving Black lives it would be in these cities with the worst murder rates in the country.

would it be considered a police state if trump wasnt involved and the decision was made to double the police presence in at risk areas?

Trump has weaponized Trump Derange Syndrome to make Dems look out of touch for fighting what from the outsider looks like an effort to fight crime.

It's all theater, but the left is bad at theater....which is surprising when you say it outloud.

Or are they just out there fishing, and ruining a lot of innocent people’s lives?

From what I can tell and from what I know about them, I’m assuming it’s more the latter?

Maybe they deter a few criminals and it saves some lives, but if they’re also ruining lives for no good reason, that’s not really helping.

There’s complex long term problems that don’t have easy or quick solutions, but I don’t think they have any interest in trying to solve those - they want to make it worse, so they can campaign on this bullshit IMO. They’ll make a show of the force they’re using, and probably lie about statistics whenever it helps them.

They’re not solving the problems of poverty, housing, inequality, so they’re not ultimately doing anything good big picture wise.

They are gutting all public health organizations thru RFKJ's conspiratorial horseshit, on top of the police state they're trying to implement, on top of the ICE raids destroying the lives of increasing numbers of immigrants and their families, both legal and illegal (and citizens). In the long term, all of this (and more) will kill A FUCKING TON of people. And if it doesn't kill them, their lives will be wholly upended/destroyed.

So, yes. It's worst case scenario. But if things continue on the current trajectory that's undoubtedly what will happen.

It's military people standing around with guns. Like I said, if they were actually harassing people that would be a whole nother conversation, but that hasn't happened. It also hasn't happened since the National Guard been deployed in NYC since 9/11.

i'm sure lots of illegal immigrants who commit crimes are being deported that they can't point to, but in this dragnet are the ice cream man, the guy at home depot, the guys who work at the car wash, farm workers, in one case a little girl with cancer, people at their immigration hearings, people who ARE here legally, even some american citizens. many being sent to countries they've never even been to.

it's what this admin does. they identify an actual problem.. crime, immigration, government spending (Doge) and make a spectacle out of it. They're also trying to make Trump sending armies into american cities something people should see as "normal"

A blue state stop and frisk using the National Guard is a bad idea.

NPR looked at the arrest in D.C. after the National Guard was deployed.

https://www.npr.org/2025/09/05/g-s1-86991/trump-dc-national-guard-police-federal-crime-stats

"Of the more than 1,050 defendants whose cases have gone to Superior Court, prosecutors charged around 20% with felonies: more serious offenses that include drug and gun crimes.

The remaining 80% of the cases were misdemeanors, warrants, traffic offenses or prosecutors dropping the case."

What you will find is the majority are domestic, some are from cops, accidental shootings and suicides (successful or not), and self-defense are also included. Somewhere around the 90’s the news just started lumping them all in with no clarity to push a ‘the worlds gone mad and black people aren’t human’ agenda.

City of Chi has an annual report of on crime dating back to the 40’s. Google last years and compare w/ what the news reported and you’ll see what I mean.

i'm not gonna pretend to know enough about it to know how much of that is poor local governance, or lack of resources due to having republican governors, or a combo of both.

but that this admin only seems concerned with crime in states with governors who don't kiss his ass is enough to not trust that they actually give a shit about actually saving lives

'chicago' has been a talking point on the right for at least 10 years now.

At 3 pm Wed., a woman was stabbed just off a busy intersection on H Street, NE. National Guard members were dining al fresco at a taqueria DIRECTLY across the street, yet the suspect got away. "So safe," a local texted us.

Sending troops to Chicago could cost $1.6 million per day, four times as much as housing the city's homeless — plus it's illegal.

Giving Trump credit "if crime goes down" in Chicago, NYC, LA or DC is just playing along to the MAGA show.

Are we really saving "lives" if we are focusing on 2 or 3 large cities that just so happen to be in Blue states while ignoring the other 20+ cities that have higher murder rates?

How do they not see the obvious?

see how easy it is to trick people into complimenting and defending MAGA?

is definitely applauding Trump

This is why I keep saying “do it in cities with higher murder rates”
if you truly care about reducing murder.

to only do it in Dem states shows its just something to brag about for the next election.

so yeah.. while some lives might be saved due to occupation in DC and Chicago.. overall the numbers will probably be worse nationally since he is ignoring cities with higher murder rates.

Of course Buddy thinks this means we don’t care about lives saves in Chicago but that is gaslighting like a muhhhfukka when we are talking about the President of the whole country.. not just DC and Chicago.

they support the idea because things have gotten so bad there. One lady said that there are laws in place now where Chicago PD can barely arrest ppl and have been reduced to crossing guards, so they are almost useless.

another brother said that he was in NY when the nat guard was there for the subways and the guards he encountered were helpful and not unpleasant to citizens.

originally this post wasnt even about this back and forth, i was really just pointing out that Chi and NY could be up next because of 47s announcement. but as usual posts evolve and i was just raising the question of if it did end up saving some lives and slowing up crime, would that be an ok thing?

outside of all of the politricks and posturing etc etc...just a discussion question really. but like some of the ppl in the video, if i was there in the midst of a warzone and i was worried about my children, i might take it into consideration.

being okay with military policing cities is a slippery slope IMO

Especially when this fool keeps flirting with the idea of a 3rd term and his excitement for Ukraine suspending elections during war.

I’m not sure how you all don’t see the game plan being executed by this tyrant.

i agree with this 1000%...it is a slippery slope, which is why this debate is lively both here and regionally. i also understand the idea of being fed up with bullets and death and feeling like there is no where to turn

murder rates. it's not a genuine effort for the people there and I highly doubt there's any real benefit for the cities being occupied.

the national guard are trained for disaster recovery and military duty. neither is related to arresting, due process, or proper policing of citizens. it's just bullying. it'll only look like relief on the surface.

It's not supportive of Trump's position here, or yours, which is functionally identical: that it's good to have the military looming over people just trying to live their lives.

But since your preference seems to be single people you know or videos that found their way to your eyeballs (definitely don't bother to interrogate that, either - there's probably no upside for social media companies to feed you information that supports your priors) then I can provide that too.

I live in Chicago and I don't want it. I teach high school kids here and they don't want to get hassled on the bus or train or sidewalk by soldiers for some racist propaganda. I know this because they told me.

I participate in the loud and complex political process by which me and fellow Chicagoans choose the way we will live and be governed. Like free humans.

*We* talked about it and furthermore, we told you what we want: Trump and the National Guard to fuck off and let our city handle its own problems. Our elected local and state officials have made that point clearly and explicitly, which is what we elected them for.

If you'd like to speak up against a community governing itself then by all means do so, but have the candor to make that claim in those words.

...and form an opinion that is based on more than just the propaganda that has been put in front of your eyes specifically to elicit the reaction you're experiencing.

The bad news is that you're not succeeding at the moment, but the good news is that we have faith in you. I encourage you to listen to the people here who are describing what's happening in the city they live in and (clearly from these posts) love and to find your way into some independent media that's more proximate to the situation.

so serious question no BS, how should it be processed when these events happen, and not just in chi but anywhere?

Because, again, you're refusing to do any work to learn more about the headline you're reflexively shouting. People here have contextualized that headline for you. People have explained what Trump's shock troops intend to accomplish. People have pointed at the solution you're pretending you don't support has been rejected by people who live here.

If your concern here is: what should my take be? - then that's easily accomplished. Just be sad and leave talking about it to actual grownups who want to try to solve things in their own city.

If you want to actually "process" tragedy then learn more about it. 3CardMolly had a post earlier about what that volume of gun crime looks like. Maybe actually read it? University of Chicago Crime Lab does a whole bunch of research on gun crime. They've got a website. Maybe try reading that? Perhaps your processing would benefit from hearing about solutions that aren't sending the military to jail fare evasion cases. Soon there will be accounts on the ground demonstrating this is mostly about running interference for ICE (in Melrose Park right now) kidnapping parents and children on their way to work and school. Maybe consider those tragedies too?

But right now, you're just banging on a table and trying to make everybody acknowledge your id. This story isn't about you. Which is good because it's a sad story. Your lack of connection is freedom to learn and become smart. But it would help to understand that your current questions aren't directed towards any real understanding - just big, loud feelings.

i know all about his political agenda believe me. im just not focusing on the political aspect of the situation. i know trump is gonna do what he does. i was simply asking a hypothetical question from the beginning, the question being, if the national guard could come in temporarily and not completely destroy the community similar to the NY situation (which i know is not exactly the same but just using it as an example) if their temporary presence could put a dent in the crime rate and save some lives, should it be considered? and this isnt just asking about chicago this is anywhere. if the answer is no then that is fine. if someone thinks that is should be considered then thats their prerogative as well.

i personally think that if some lives could potentially be saved then it should be discussed as long as the community is not destroyed by the troops and there is no permanent or even long term occupancy. someone else may not agree with that and thats fine.

You would rather focus on the non-political parts of a US President sending the military to address civilian crime in a city.

And like Walleye, a CPS teacher on the southside.

Nobody here wants trump and troops. You might, MIGHT find a few folks that say opposite but they are a far far cry from the majority. Also a lot of protrumpers keep questioning Black folks, yet forget this is a mob/mafia ran city. The same city an Irish gangbanger turned mob boss ran for 30+yrs and later bequeathed his reign to his son to run another 30+ yrs and despite whatever puppet mayor comes after, they still run this place.

The teamsters have already designated where ICE can/can’t go as for which areas to pick “illegals” up. You may not recognize whats going on with this playbook but to keep reaching for some supposed trump&troop welcoming group is to be purposely ignorant and willfully blind.

“RE: i have seen multiple videos of people who live in Chi saying that
they support the idea because things have gotten so bad there. One lady said that there are laws in place now where Chicago PD can barely arrest ppl and have been reduced to crossing guards, so they are almost useless.”

Well thats a fucking lie and lets me know youre not thinking past your nose on this. Just go online and check the daily arrest tally for CPD. Why are you going by what some random person in a video said???This isnt rocketing science, google it.

“another brother said that he was in NY when the nat guard was there for the subways and the guards he encountered were helpful and not unpleasant to citizens.”

National guards and ICE are two different animals. National guard was all over this nation during 2020 and not one incident in Chicago then, so it isnt hard to believe they are more humane than ICE. The problem is trump using the NG so Ice can arrest and deport anyone.

“originally this post wasnt even about this back and forth, i was really just pointing out that Chi and NY could be up next because of 47s announcement. but as usual posts evolve and i was just raising the question of if it did end up saving some lives and slowing up crime, would that be an ok thing?”

The fact that crime is already down 15%/ violent crime down 35% shows trump is not needed nor was invited to come here.

“outside of all of the politricks and posturing etc etc...just a discussion question really. but like some of the ppl in the video, if i was there in the midst of a warzone and i was worried about my children, i might take it into consideration.”

But thats just it, its not a warzone. You’re going by talking heads but cant read reports to offer official information. You want to “discuss” but not willing to investigate.

110. "Things gov Pritzker & myr Johnson can do"
In response to Reply # 109

To stop trump…according to chat:

Here are non-lawsuit steps Governor J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson could take to resist or blunt Trump, ICE, and National Guard deployments in Chicago while staying within their constitutional powers:

⸻

1. State-Level Executive Powers
• Refuse to cooperate with federal requests: Illinois can direct state police, corrections, and administrative agencies not to share resources, data, or personnel with ICE or federally deployed troops (consistent with Printz v. United States, 1997, which upheld anti-commandeering).
• Use the Illinois National Guard under state control: Pritzker can keep the Illinois Guard under “Title 32” state authority to prevent them being federalized, or use them defensively to protect local infrastructure and residents.
• Emergency declarations: He could declare a state emergency that restricts armed presence in certain areas unless coordinated with state command.

⸻

2. Municipal & Local Strategies
• Non-cooperation directives: The Mayor can order Chicago Police Department (CPD) not to assist federal agents in raids or arrests. This includes denying access to databases, booking systems, or jail space.
• City ordinances: Expand sanctuary city provisions by forbidding city employees (schools, libraries, hospitals) from sharing resident information with ICE.
• Permit & zoning leverage: Withhold local permits, staging areas, or logistical support for federal enforcement operations (e.g., vehicle depots, staging facilities).

⸻

3. Control of State & Local Property
• Deny access to state/city facilities: For example, block use of Cook County Jail, Chicago PD lockups, or state buildings as detention centers.
• Push back on Great Lakes Naval Base staging: While the base is federal, Illinois can control surrounding roads, utilities, and public safety coordination, making operations logistically harder.

⸻

4. Political & Public Pressure
• Coalition building with other governors & mayors: A united block (e.g., California, New York, Massachusetts) can increase political pressure and coordinate non-cooperation.
• Mobilize unions and community groups: Chicago has strong labor, immigrant rights, and faith-based organizations. Coordinated resistance can make enforcement politically toxic.
• Transparency campaigns: Publish daily data on ICE activity or federal militarization attempts—using public outrage as a deterrent.

⸻

5. Protecting Residents Directly
• Legal defense & rapid response teams: Fund legal aid groups that respond immediately to ICE raids or Guard confrontations.
• “Know Your Rights” campaigns: Expand outreach so residents know how to legally refuse consent searches, remain silent, and demand warrants.
• Sanctuary spaces: Expand protections in schools, churches, and hospitals where federal entry is more restricted.

⸻

6. Intergovernmental Tactics
• Leverage congressional delegation: Illinois lawmakers in Congress can pressure the Pentagon or DHS with oversight hearings, funding restrictions, or subpoenas.
• State lawsuits on federal contracts/funding: Without waiting for court resolution, the state can freeze cooperation on joint programs (task forces, data sharing) that Trump relies on.

⸻

✅ In short:
Even if Trump bypasses courts, Illinois can choke off cooperation, deny logistical support, keep its Guard under local control, and mobilize political + community resistance. Federal forces might still come—but their effectiveness depends heavily on state and local cooperation, which Pritzker and Johnson can withhold.

⸻

Rather or not they will do ANY of these things has yet to be seen.

In response to Reply # 61

And when your response to that is, "Well on a per capita basis that's not as bad as some other cities" that reads as not giving a shit about the 581 murders in Chicago.

Again, this is why Dems/progressives sound so out of touch when they talk about crime.

Or let me flip it into a way that might better resonate.

When folks talk about the genocide in Palestine, what would you think of the response, "well only 64,000 Palestinians have been killed so far per the Gaza Health Ministry which for a population of almost 6M isn't that bad compared to the other global conflicts in Syrian (600k), Sudanese (150,000+ to 522,000+) and Ethiopian wars (~162,000 to 378,000+)...."

That sounds like a real messed up way to talk about the genocide right?

To be clear, I know what Trump is doing is political theater but Dems/Progressives responses has been more bad theater.

means you don’t care about lives lost in Chicago?

How the fuck do you arrive at that conclusion?

that sounds twisted af

If anything.. you are the one looking like you don’t carr about lives that have a higher chance of being murdered in a city like New Orleans where 193 people were killed in a city population of only 375K

man said acknowledging higher murder rates in other cities means you don’t give a shit about lives?

Gotdamn

and to your example about Gaza. Weren’t you the one who asked why Sudan and Ethiopian conflicts aren’t getting more attention from Black folk to the numbers being larger than Gaza?

“We don't care about what's going on in the Congo or South Sudan or Ethiopia because the powers that be and the media don't care about what is going on there? That doesn't make sense to me. And yet kids are getting kicked out of schools and arrested because of what's going on in GAZA, which is, another place that the Powers that Be and the Media doesn't seem to care about.

IDK. I don't say this to take away from GAZA but rather I wish we had some of this energy for other places in the world going through it that doesn't neatly fit into an ideological framing“

and for the record.. no one should have to post about how they care about Chicago if they are going to bring up other cities with higher murder rates.

in their city, it's a dumb response to bring up deaths in another city to show that it's not that bad.

So when folks are talking about the death rate in Chicago, it's dumb to point out that other cities have higher death rates on some statisitcal basis.

Same goes for New Orleans, St. Loius, etc.

Keep up.

You should read waaaay more than you post because you are clearly not following what I am saying.

Read again what I wrote about Sudan and Ethiopia SLOWLY.

And I will say it here again as simply as I can.

Bringing up the crime rate in other cities to make the murder rate in Chicago (or any city, Chicago is just an example) seem not as bad is not a good way to talk about crime in Chicago (or any city, Chicago is just an example).

SIMILARLY bring up the greater death tolls in Ethiopia and Sudan would be a terrible way to minimize the death toll in Palestine.

It is the only point I am making. I am not talking about the actions of the president in general, I am talking about how Dems talk about crime in a dumb way by talking about stats and making comparisons to other cities.

Again, post less and read more.

Well let's look at Trump's presidency from 2017-2021 and the murder rates in Chicago - sunign this: https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/gun-violence/
In 2017 there were ~730 murder in Chicago - Trump's response:0.
In 2018 there were ~597 murders in Chicago - Trump's reposnse:0.
In 2019 there were ~577 murders in Chicago - Trump's reposnse:0.
In 2018 there were ~881 murders in Chicago - Trump's reposnse:0.

In the last 12 months there were ~509 murders in Chicago - Trump's response now "IT'S A KILLING FIELD!!!"

Reaction by public: Somewhere really cares!!!!

I guess the only response to talk about crime people in this country can take is "Shoot first and let God judge em." (Unless sit's a white girl storming the capital for Trump getting shot - then it's the crime of the century.)

>Or let me flip it into a way that might better resonate.
>
>When folks talk about the genocide in Palestine, what would

>global conflicts in Syrian (600k), Sudanese (150,000+ to
>522,000+) and Ethiopian wars (~162,000 to 378,000+)...."

Except that's not what is going on - WHO THE FUCK ARE THE 'DEMOCRATS' that are saying it's NOT BAD????

We are saying that what Trump is proposing is illegal, unconstitutional, and motivated by racism.

And we are saying that Trump is purposely focusing on cities where he hates the people - who seem to vote Dem and be darker than the average Mar-a Lago members - and deliberately talking about the problems in places he 'likes' which are the ones that do not vote Dem and are melanin lite.

And the some desperate people in Chicago who are definitely in pain and definitely being hurt by this very real problem are like people dying of thirst and willing to drink whatever Trump gives them --metaphorically.

MILITARY FORCE IS NOT A SOLUTION TO A POLICING PROBLEM.

If you don't know the difference between THE MILITARY and the police then you are willing to live under military rule.

>To be clear, I know what Trump is doing is political theater
>but Dems/Progressives responses has been more bad theater.

And instead of solving problems you seem more interested/concerned with being a theater critic.

The Democrats are not doing performative theater, they want to solve problems but every step of the way the Republicans are blocking progress.

It's the sick fucking gun worship that's making these murders possible. Guns from Indiana, and Missouri and Wisconsin are being trafficked into the city to enable these murders. A PART of a solution would have to deal with limiting the incredible available of guns - but that would mean states run by Republicans would have to put in a small amount of sensible laws and enforcement limiting the absolute flood of gun sales that are being shipped into Chicago - but the sick fucks won't consider it.

Trump and his subservient Republicans could earmark/give money to Chicago to hire more law enforcements, to train them - but they will NEVER do that.

Note: It's not SSRIs or blue dye #3.

They gave 50 BILLION - BILLION so Ice can build camps to deport people - and if they have their druthers to countries that will torture and kill them - and 0 to help with the 'EMERGENCY' in Chicago. Ice has more funding the the FUCKING MARINES.

But it's GOING to happen - you will have the military 'solving' these issue in the same way the 'solved' the 'Drug-running boat' this week - get ready for it. And the next time a protest happens decrying police violence - you better get ready for the bodies to start dropping - but this time under the U.S. flag.

Any real solution to this will involve is more POLICE, more intelligence, targeted responses, and getting more resources for people to give them an alternative to crime. (I guess they are doing a little of that by saying they'll accept anyone - no matter how dumb or cruel into ICE now.) Job programs, community services, not putting people in jail for 5 years for minor non violent drug offense would help too. And making counseling available.

Because when the crime rate and murder rate was worse there was no emergency - you can't for a single second believe that Trump is interested in helping - he's just trying to get people used to military presence in their cities.

Prediction: He'll go into New Orleans first - because it withing the parameters he has set for 'concern' and Louisiana is a Republican run shithole. (I was born there.)

Not make shit up. This is how you amass 80,000 posts. You post without reading. You should read more, post less.

In fact you should get off line more and actually have these conversations with real live people. You might begin to hear how dumb some of the shit you say sounds.

Finally, you should probably think about talking about crime in a more personalize way. It's a mistake Dems have been making since Mike Dukakis gave that terrible answer when asked what he would want if his wife was raped (terrible question too BTW).

People think about crime in a personalize way and when someone says they is too much crime in their city, the answer isn't "Statistically we've 20% down since 2020". Again, it's a bad way to talk about crime in a politics.

I'm done. Have at it.

Sure but I think most people can tell Trump doesn't give a shit and does not care.

Well ok, but not really. No one cares about the crime in other cities more than they care about the crime in their neighborhood. That's not even having shit for brains, that's common sense.

Again, I think most see this cynically and know Trump really doesn't give a shit. I mean maybe Trumpers but yeah whatever.

Like someone said above, I don't give a shit whether he "cares" or not, I think people only care about results.

No but you got to talk about it. And when you talk about it it can't be defund the police. There are solutions and a city like Baltimore seems to have it figure out.

That might be a good enouh excuse for you, but I don't think that's a good excuse for not getting shit done. Sorry.

Again, there are Dems getting it done in Baltimore. And it involves a lot of social services, but it also involves the police.

They're going to have the governors of MAGA states send in troops to knock heads in Chicago - under the 'leadership' of a president who's defense secretary just said, as Pete Hegseth about a extra-judicial murder he just directed ""I'd say we smoked a drug boat, and there's 11 narco terrorists at the bottom of the ocean. And when other people try to do that, they're gonna meet the same fate" and "He also stated that drug cartels are "no different than al-Qaida" and would be treated accordingly. "

The president who still insists the Central Park Five are guilty and the ad he took out urging them to be put to death is still the wiht thing - the one who said Obama was Kenyan - you know that one.

Guess what a drug cartel will be in Chicago - anyone selling a single joint. Guess who al-Qaidi is - it's anyone they fucking say it is.

>I hope all the Black and Brown people I see making up a disproortionate part of the military won't go for that. I hope it doesn't come to that.

If you think there's going to be a rebellion inside of the NG or military then you are not really thinking about reality.

>Well I think we need to figure out some solutions before it gets to that rather than throwing hands up saying its inevitable

Faith in low level military folks to do the right thing and actually have it make a difference??? Not only have they have been systemically removing people from defense leadership with any common sense - especially if they are black - ad especially if they are a black woman - but that's not how it works. Are you talking about a military coup??

>I know the difference. But because there are 1000 National Guards standing around the New York Subways system and times square doesn't mean I've been living under military rule in NYC for the last 20 years.

And if you can't tell the difference between a *state governor* activating the guard to *HELP* existing police in a very limited capacity in a very limited area to what's going on in Washington DC or in Los Angeles then you need to LOOK AGAIN.

What the actual fuck???

>Agreed but then what? I think that's the response from Dems that people hate. Just throwing your hands up and saying nothing can be done because of the republicans.

Really? There was shit to be done - it was THE ELECTION.

But idiots and desperate folks bought the LIES that Democrats LOVE crime, invite Mexicans to rob you - real ones FROM MEXICO too!- want men wearing tutus to murder your precious daughters when boxing in high school - or drown your daughters during a swimming meet - and that only Trump could fix inflation and solve all wars within a day.

>The Democrats are not doing performative theater, they want to
>solve problems but every step of the way the Republicans are
>blocking progress.

>That might be a good enouh excuse for you, but I don't think that's a good excuse for not getting shit done. Sorry.

>Again, there are Dems getting it done in Baltimore. And it involves a lot of social services, but it also involves the police.

And there it is - unless all problems can be solved everywhere all at once then DEMS IS WEAK - so I guess let Trump send in the military to solve problems the American way - with FORCE - and force alone.

>I'll say it again, when someone brings up the crime in their cities, pointing out other cities have it worst implies/ makes it sound like it's not THAT bad relatively speaking.

You mean like when Republicans bring up crime in someone else's city and say it's the problem??

Aren't you criticizing Dems for the exact thing being done by Republicans, and exactly here??? Guess you just like the Republican arguments more???

Oh, and none of this is legal - or isn't now until the Supreme Court somehow finds a way to make it legal.

But I guess there are ONLY two options Americans can images: Weak DEMS and rampant crime, or Republicans with the boot on your throat (a metaphor now in Chicago - soon to be literal) and everything all white -- right I mean.

I don’t know, there’s so many good people in the south - but the leadership in those states is both evil and incredibly stupid. NC and Georgia would be blue if it wasn’t for the blatant cheating and corruption.

Maybe gerrymander Philly into being part of New Jersey. And obviously Minnesota and Illinois gotta be a part of it.

This can’t continue the way it’s going.

I love the smell of deportation in the morning.

https://www.mediaite.com/media/news/unhinged-and-anti-american-critics-erupt-over-trumps-ai-generated-threat/#

Donald Trump critics were beside themselves over the president’s Saturday Truth Social post that featured an AI re-imagining of the war movie “Apocalypse Now,” which he rebranded as “Chipocalypse Now.”

“I love the smell of deportations in the morning…” Trump posted. “Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR,” in reference to Trump’s rebranding of the Department of Defense.

Behind an AI-generated image of Trump as a key character in the movie is a depiction of Chicago burning with helicopters hovering over the city.

Black folk trying to spin this into a positive is some weirdo shit.

In other news I had big fun along with 50k other Black folks at the Renaissance Fest on 79th & Racine with house djs and live performance from Chicago’s very own Chaka Khan. This event has been going on for 20yrs, no bag checks etc and not one incident of violence in its existence. Also the NOI did security.

On another note, I honestly doubt trump will push ICE through like done in DC. Chicago is still very mafia strong and the teamsters unions are serious about their immigrant workers and ready. Also as dirty as CPD is they not letting trump stop their show. As for Black folks, I believe most of us have plans in place. However there will be the usual protesting characters in place to give ‘a look’.

the best response to Trump remains telling him to fuck off loudly and clearly

appeasement doesn’t work in general but it very explicitly does not work on that guy

Pritzker telegraphed loud and clear that there were going to be Problems if the feds came in and now they’re backing away and offering excuses

important lesson for the next blue city or state targeted

https://bsky.app/profile/rincewind.run/post/3lyor6mmblc26

It absolutely matters here that Pritzker was effective at sounding the alarm and plainly stating this would be unconstitutional in a profoundly radical and fundamental way, and showing he could rally practical popular opposition, which then gets spun as backing out over "legal headaches."

ICE shot & killed an immigrant in the Chicago suburbs yesterday.

Then they immediately gave a misleading account of events.

Chicago erupted in chaos and a father who lived here for decades is dead. This is what really happened:

address this post...i was bringing up a hypothetical question in this post that wasnt really about trump or chicago. what i was trying to ask but failed in my presentation was basically about having an armed presence in a neighborhood with gun violence issues if we knew a few things ahead of time:

1 being that we knew ahead of time that lives would be saved

2 that crime would in fact go down

3 that the armed people would not disrupt the life of the citizens outside of them just being there.

would it then be worth it? it is a question of would you consider having some type of armed presence in your hood that has gun violence problems if you knew these conditions would be met. the presence could be the national guard, the black panthers, the avenging angels, or top flight security.

im not a trump supporter homey but the question got lost because the original post was simply mentioning that chi and ny were on trumps radar and then the post went into another direction when the 58 shot weekend happened and i posted a link to it. and for the record a 58 shot weekend is alarming to ME no matter where it happens and i stand by that.

i didnt effectively pose the question right and ill cop to that. but the question was posed with the 3 considerations i mentioned as part of the hypothetical. i know who trump is.

>and use cities as training grounds
>
>how the fuck can anyone think this is good or might save
>lives?
>
>do people really not see what is going on?

but are you asking if a hypothetical scenario where the national guard was called in with the actual intent to deter crime and help people would be good?

Because that’s not at all what’s happening and I know you know that.

You’re talking about a hypothetical scenario though? I’m really tired, so forgive if I’m misunderstanding.

in their neighborhood that has ongoing issues with gun violence if the 3 conditions that i mentioned were met.

Like the magic "good guy with a gun" is going to solve the problem of "bad guys with guns??"

You are living in a fantasy - or inside an actual war zone.

You are proposing Gaza in the US.

GUNS *are the problem* when nothing else is being done.

People need housing, food, healthcare, and education - the exact fucking things they aren't spending money on when they are deploying armed forces to lord over you.

That you even are thinking this way means you either
1)You haven't given it a lot of thought
b)You have had people whispering/screaming at you as so brainwash you a lil bit.

Imagine your neighborhood with normal police levels and everyone has food, a place to live, healthcare and education available - and ask yourself how does that compare to 'warriors' with guns OVERSEEING your neighborhood.

IF force solved all problems then we'd be fucking problem free in this country.

unless that National Guard is passing out food, and building and fixing shit for free and actually providing useful services to people, then they aren’t any help. Walking around with guns to scare people straight….that sounds like Herc from the Wire’s wet dream or something.

It’s sad that we’re seemingly past the point where some even bother with “jobs, affordable housing, food, well funded schools, etc.” as realistic obvious solutions.

All of this shit has always been by design though. Make people poor on purpose, then go to war against them.

Beyond sickening.

and actually i have given it some thought, which is why i put certain conditions on the hypothetical, which again, is what this is. in this particular hypothetical, we would know ahead of time that crime would go down, lives WOULD be saved and that there would be minimal impact coming from the armed presence. if you cant imagine such a scenario thats fine sir, you have the option to move on. but truthfully your energy seems alil aggressive and this exercise isnt designed to rile anyone up.

Also ICE just raided an apartment building across from a elementary school I taught at here in Chicago where many of the kids in that building attend.

Tell me how does breaking into people’s apartments at 1am benefit or protect those children, not to mention the elders living there?

As for a rise in crime, that building, despite its structure, location and the increasing value of the area being rt on the lake front, near the south shore cultural center(major golf hub in Chi), being along an express route that stretches from north Chicago to Indiana and an 8 min drive to the Obama center, is ran by a slum lord.

A raid (even ICE) would have to be approved by a local judge(IL). It wouldn’t surprise me if the slum lord welcomed ICE in to flush tenants out in hopes of flipping the building to condos faster.

ICE also raided a homeless shelter.

Both places are on Chicago’s south side which in 90% Black areas. Chicago is also EXTREMELY segregated so trying to find where the majority of illegal migrants are would not lead ICE to the south side. Also ICE has the authority to detain people if there’s a warrant for arrest, be it for a serious crime or unpaid traffic violation such as expired plates.

What is occurring is hostile evictions and random arrest of poor Black folks.

If you can find a benefit for all Chicago residents based on this, do share.

Thank you for describing in extreme, correct detail what this non-hypothetical military occupation means. My wife and I moved back to the city last year (we were here for around a decade in the 2000s) and your diagnosis of the South Shore raid is heartbreaking and right on.

Here's what you posted:

> if we knew a few things ahead of time:

>1 being that we knew ahead of time that lives would be saved
>2 that crime would in fact go down
>3 that the armed people would not disrupt the life of the citizens outside of them just being there.

>would it then be worth it?

You've posited a bunch of BULLSHIT, then said "imagine it was absolutely guaranteed to work - and resounds only with that make-believe position and not reality."

So if your dreamer BULLSHIT worked then the answer would be maybe.

How is having a MILITARY FORCE going to lead that "1 being that we knew ahead of time that lives would be saved??"

Forget " im not talking about what is ACTUALLY taking place out here in real time." - you are talking about a world where bringing in MILITARY to do police work and that's the ONLY thing you are going to change would 'make things better."

I reject your entire premise - try again with something that *might actually work* and you *might* get some back and forth.

But JESUS CHRIST - the idea of military occupation leading to a peaceful society has been tried over and over and over again through every documented piece of human history and it has never worked.

Why would it work now??

If you premise: What if we knew 100% that by allowing ourselves to live in an occupied military state, without affordable housing, food or healthcare , that all violence would stop - would you do it.

Focus on how many folks with a secure house, food to eat, and healthcare are out gangbanging - or committing strong arm robbery - and imagine a police force would be around to deal with that.

It's CRAZY on the face of it.

Or hookup with Seasoned Vet - and put a plan into action.

This is why desperate people voted for Trump - they allowed them selves to ignore reality. How's that working out?

I had a bunch of shit typed but I don’t think you understand wtf is happening so it doesn’t
matter.

All I’ll say is the raid that you didn’t include is your 3 fantasies IS EXACTLY WHAT WE SAID WOULD HAPPEN IF THEY INVADED CHICAGO.

I you are going to use hypotheticals you can’t demand that people not use reality or not use their own hypothetical to push back.

but man… the fact that kids were zip tied in a raid at 1AM and an apartment was tossed like it was Nazi Germany should be all you need to understand why people are angry at your fantasy.

my hypothetical is just an exercise to get ppls opinions on armed occupancy in a gun violence impacted neighborhood. but the occupancy doesnt have to be the national guard. lets say its the black panther party in philly. here's a video to give some sort of reference.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csVnLIfqtPE&pp=ygUgYmxhY2sgcGFudGhlciBwYXJ0eSBwaGlsYWRlbHBoaWE%3D

but lets say they are there because they want to protect citizens from gang members and crime in their hood instead of the cops.

or, we could look at the Shorim in the Hasidic Jewish neighboorhoods in BK and other areas in the country. if the same violent crime impacted neighborhoods that i have been speaking about decided to put together an armed volunteer patrol group to battle violent crime offenders, would (anyone) have feelings about them being there? what would those feelings be?

its almost like a poll, with the question being, would you have an issue with an armed patrol team being in your neighborhood or not? there is no right or wrong answer, and there is no reason to get angry. its just a question to garner a discussion about an armed presences in a troubled neighborhood.

but going into it, we know that crime will go down, and lives would be saved. also the armed folks arent gonna harass you. has nothing to do with trump or the nat guard (necessarily). you could plug in the nat guard into the equation if you like, but the same 3 conditions apply.

edit: there are some ppl who would be against any armed ppl in their vicinity no matter what. there are some who might consider it, and there are some who would be like hell yeah lets do it. but nobody is wrong or right because its just their opinion.

>I had a bunch of shit typed but I don’t think you

i absolutely do understand my brother.

>
>All I’ll say is the raid that you didn’t include is your 3

i never doubted or suggested that anything would happen one way or the other. whats going on now which is very unfortunate has nothing to do with what im talking about.

>I you are going to use hypotheticals you can’t demand that
>people not use reality or not use their own hypothetical to

there is nothing to push back against, either you would be open to considering it or not.

>but man… the fact that kids were zip tied in a raid at 1AM
>and an apartment was tossed like it was Nazi Germany should be
>all you need to understand why people are angry at your

what happened with those kids is an atrocity. i dont think ppl were understanding my question which is why folks are getting furious and i get it. but again, what is happening doesnt really have anything to do with my question. what is happening could cloud your opinion about armed patrols in a neighborhood, but again its really a yes or no question around whether you would be open to it or not.

Hypothetically speaking if a diabetic 8 yr old ask you for a super sweet sugar cookie, you would tell them no and you would expect them to not keep begging for something that could kill them.

But alas here we are and you’re still asking.

You mean, like - GASP - THE POLICE??????
Outcome: *Very mixed* -- mainly dependent on leadership, but nearly impossible to get rid of due to public demand.

Vigilantes?
Outcome: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trayvon_Martin

Or "The Guardian Angels?" Outcome: https://nypost.com/2006/09/08/sliwas-sleazy-charades-hoaxes-dragged-into-trial/

Or militias?
Outcome: https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases/oklahoma-city-bombing

Or armed military occupations?
Outcomes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_war_crimes

Or THE FUCKING BATMAN????????????

>but again its really a yes or no question around whether you would be open to it or not.

You don't need to look at hypotheticals - look at what happened in Chicago this weekend. If your answers is a simple "yes" to military occupation then we know what outcomes you'll tolerate.

the Black Panthers or armed neighborhood watch patrolling? there is more to the question than JUST the national guard. and if the answer is no then thats completely acceptable...the whole thing is about opinions.

but the point of including the black panther video is to show that they are active in the community presently, and to my knowledge the Hasidic Jewish patrol is still active. so these groups are out here doing things to protect their communities from different types of offenders whether it be cops or criminals. so what would be the harm in asking ppl how they feel about it?

186. "Armed religious or ethnic patrols???"
In response to Reply # 172

Putting ANYONE is armed patrols is going to cause problems, especially unpaid people.

That's why THE POLICE should be the ones doing it - under strict leadership with the ideals of enforcing the law, keeping public safety and order and human rights in balance. (Ideals they do not live up to --You see how off balance Police are in most cities.)

Now take an ARMED neighborhood groups and see how they handle power? That's The Guardian Angels - but with GUNS. ARMED Shomrim patrolling?? What could go wrong?? They can't even make arrest and you want them to have guns.

Maybe the only solution you can ever imagine is people with GUNS. And that will never end in a good situation in the United States.

The excesses and corruption inherit in the police will only be worse with groups arranged foremost by ethnicity or religion.

I don't want the retired people in police-looking-cars to have guns either.

This kind of power absolutely breeds corruption.

Remember - the Klan were presented under this guise. (Oh, and it was a lie there too.)

The police should do this job - and they should be less corrupt and more just than they are. It's bad, but it's the best solution we have. And it is because they are professionals - they get paid for it. Ever see the Simpsons where they become volunteer firemen and then get mad they aren't being valued so they start stealing things? That's funny and accurate.

These are ideas that I heard in the late 80s/early 90s that didn't work then, and I doubt they will work now.

thats why i have kept saying its not about trump, ice, red vs blue cities, etc etc none of that has anythg to do with what ive been saying i just want the opinions of the ppl who have to survive the gang/gun issues.

It's genuinely baffling that you don't understand why your line of reasoning is offensive. There is no hypothetical. The thing you're discussing - military policing of cities - this is what it looks like. This is the only thing it can ever look like. Doing that *necessarily* means creating political coalitions with and enabling people who want this terror and violence.

ICE murdered a father here. A real human person. You're not Aristotle and people's lives aren't a thought experiment.

Yet when given direct answers from direct sources, directly about the actual real-time outcomes, you dont consider them, you dont claim any new pov other than your og stance.
People cussing you out cause you standing on bullshit 10toes deep to push some hypothetical regardless of a firm set reality that keeps getting worse.

Even when someone else pointed out that historically no govt enforcing their military on their citizens has ever created a peaceful outcome, you refuse to consider the evidence.

the sources and outcomes that ppl here have provided dont have any bearing on the people who live in the trenches tho. if i ask them if they think armed neighborhood patrol would help their situation with gangs and gun violence, whatever their answer is is their answer ie:

1. yeah man, sometimes i think about rounding up some ppl and going to battle with these stupid young niggas! or,

2. nah man that shit would never work...we would do better relying on our janky ass cops that dont do shit

neither one of these answers is wrong or right and im not pushing those folks to do anything. im not doubting the sources that have been posted here at all, but i still would like to know the thoughts of the folks on the front lines

if i ask them if they would consider tolerating the national guard coming in if they knew that crime/shootings would go down and the nat guard wouldnt harass them (all of this is hypothetical) what would they say?

1. hell naw man fuck the nat guard. or,

2. man i just lost my cousin to the bullshit last week, fuck it let em come in...this shit needs to stop!

neither answer is wrong or right, just a convo and getting opinions and gaining insight

I live about 15 blocks from the building that was raided by ICE. Earlier this year and last year I worked at the school across the street from that building, so if someone who lives in that city, neighborhood and community is informing you directly that ICE and troops are not wanted, wtf you still going on 3rd party info.

This is why people here are cussing you out. You lap dogging for dumbshit and moonwalking into further stupidity, proudly at that.

to talk to are the ppl who dont have an option to move and have been there for decades...aunties, grannys, mothers...ppl who have been touched by the violence. some of the ppl from chicago who have responded in this post have said that they moved and left and came back etc etc.

thats cool, but i would like to talk to the folks who dont have any option to move.

and again, im not looking for a PARTICULAR answer, so its not what i do or dont want to hear. i just wanna have a dialogue. and hear what they have to say. if i talked to 100 ppl, i doubt that everyone who i talked to would say the EXACT same thing, one way or another. and again, this isnt directed at chi residents exclusively. this is for anyone who lives in a community plagued by gang/gun violence.

Where are you from and currently at?
If you moved, why and how?

What’s the crime rate in your area?
Would you sleep w/doors open?

Are you black or non-black?
If non-black, what’s your connection to black folks?
If black, are you military/police and what kind of neighborhood were you raised in?
Also do you date primarily outside your race?

Do you have children/grandchildren/spouse?

Have you visited Chicago?

Do you know anyone here? (Fam, friend, penpal)

Are you a property owner?

Do you work in your community? And how often do you volunteer?

Are you an only child, middle child or youngest?

Where you raised by you biological parents, other family members, adopted by others or a ward of the state til 17/18?

i have friends in chicago but this is NOT about chi specifically. i keep saying that. the original post was just a link to a headline about trump saying he was gonna clean up chi and ny. there was no slant from me, i didnt say what his intentions were were good or bad, i just posted it to put it out there.

i should have started a separate post about the labor day weekend shootings which is where things went left. i am black and work in an urban environment. i love my black ppl and am around them all day every day both at work and in the surrounding community.

my intentions with all of this is not to harm or cause alarm to anyone. i would just like to have an informal brief convo with those who ive described if i could but im not a reporter or researcher nor do i have any official agenda.

the issues are serious but what im saying that i would like to do isnt that serious. it might come across like that because this post has lingered on and gone around and around. all of this has become more of a thing than it actually is.

after the labor day shootings i was thinking to myself wow man thats terrible that shit went up like that and so many ppl got hit and some actually died. i wish i could talk to someone who was in the midst of all that and gain some insight. thats all it was. but it wasnt about chi specifically it could have been ny, memphis, atl, LA, anywhere where shit goes up heavy on a regular basis.

go to urban areas plagued by violence and interview them if you are serious

but I don’t think you are serious about this.

I think you believe that you really want this information but making up a hypothetical and then ignoring or dismissing the folks who actually told you they live in CHI because they didn’t give you the answers you want is a bad look.

Sounds like you are fishing and anytime your bait doesn’t get a response you want you throw it back and keep tossing out more bait.

You know where you are so you aren’t being legit. Go on city data or one of those neighborhood apps where people constantly post about trash or crime stats and you will get the responses you are begging for.

this is from post 43 and i answered the question...what point are you making?

"Are they actually targeting murderers and people doing serious crimes?"
In response to Reply # 34

Or are they just out there fishing, and ruining a lot of innocent people’s lives?

From what I can tell and from what I know about them, I’m assuming it’s more the latter?

Maybe they deter a few criminals and it saves some lives, but if they’re also ruining lives for no good reason, that’s not really helping."

>rapists and robbers if they can. are they fishing? most
>definitely. but whose lives have been "ruined" thus far? and
>ruined how?”

than those with records

which does ruin lives because some of these folks are dying in custody or being disappeared.

so while your hypotheticals after the fact are fantasies the reality is you actually believe ICE was focusing on criminals

just shows that your not really basing any of this on reality and it reads like you believe the shit being shoveled to us by this admin.

That's one of the most insane things I've ever heard. He himself is a rapist. And he has multiple other rapists in his administration. And he's pardoned other rapists.

WTF is wrong with you.

once a person says “I believe Trump wants to do good things” you know their take is trash.

He called Portland a war zone. What? Where is the war?

Anytime these people give Trump the benefit of the doubt they lose all credibility.

After Charlie Kirk died the next day they asked him how he feels and he immediately responded with “check out the construction on the ball room”

he doesn’t give one fuck about these cities because they are Dem cities. He just wants to get troops in place to cause fear and ramp shit up.

Again, most of the people being detained have no criminal records. This is all for publicity and deportation stats because there is money in filling up these detention centers.

if this man wanted to arrest criminals he would work with local law enforcement instead of cutting their funding which was actually decreasing crime stats

the man is blowing up fishing boats and calling them drug boats.

I just don’t think its a bad idea to use our military in cities claiming to reduce crime when the real goal is invasion and attacking citizens.

The man said what we all knew would happen

“use these cities as training grounds for the military and to use force”

America is gone

look how stating you clearly dont side with Trump means nothing to them

the discussion you’re trying to have here? on okp? cant be had.

Which is exactly where Trump wants it to be about. Because if the discussion turns into the worst ideas to get promoted during the defund the police moment, that cops don't have any impact on crime, then Trump wins the debate again and people will trust Trump more on crime and let him do what he wants.

And it appears what he wants is a confrontation between protesters on the street, and the national guard/police/Ice.

I truly believe that Trump got bored with the idea of putting the national guard in DC and/or Chicago because locals (i.e, Black Folks) didn't actually hate it as much as he thought they would and it didn't draw major protests.

I think he figured out if he wants protestors clashing in the street with soldiers/cops he needs to go to Portland.

And I think this where I differ from most people here. I am not super concerned yet that Trump that what Trump's ultimate goal is to do test runs and get troops on the ground so that he can take over the government in 3 years. A lot has to happen between now and then for that even to be a feasible concern.

I do think Trump would love to see protestors beaten over the head with Batons which would be red meat to his base. I hope Portland doesn't give Trump what he is looking for.

He's/they've already taken/taking over the government. These occupations/wars on American cities are just a piece of that larger, ongoing, quickly-escalating project (2025).

But, whatever helps you sleep at nite.

Think about the rhetoric in 2016 and into his first term, compared with now. It's already escalated INSANELY quickly. trump 1.0 seems almost tame in comparison. But those of us with brains knew even back then that it would get to this point if we didn't check him. And we didn't.

I mean jeezus, we're just 5 years removed from January 6th. He already fucking tried to take over the government ! And now that Dems and the country at large fucking *handed* power back to him, he's swiftly dismantling every single aspect of the government minute by minute, *and* talking about running for a third term in 2028, all so that he and his family and/or regime can stay in power forever. And motherfuckers *still* have the balls to say he's just "bored" or whateverthefuck ?!

Fuck are we doing.

Stephen Miller was on Fox News *today* calling Democrats terrorists and calling for the full power of the state to be used against them/all of us who aren't MAGA. But that's just a smokescreen right ?

The fuhrer and the secretary of drunk brought every general in the US military into a meeting just last week to cover that exact same topic. Just a distraction !

Orange fuhrer is calling repug state governors demanding they steal more congressional seats so the fascists can hold onto power, and they're obliging. He's just bored, is all.

It doesn't take a whole lot of hyperbole or sensationalizing/exaggerating to understand the purpose of all of this. Authoritarianism has destroyed many a country in this world. And we learned about them in school !

Yet here's Buddy, in the clouds on his high horse, telling the rest of us down here on earth that we're being sensational and emotional by calling all of this out. Please enlighten us ! What, then, *is* the purpose of all of this, if not to keep trump in power and take full control of the levers of government for the foreseeable future ? And to torture and oppress the rest of us when we don't fall in line ?

Since you apparently don't see any of the above (and obviously way, way more) as "nefarious," what *is* the nefarious activity you reference, that all of the above is supposedly just a smokescreen/distraction for ? Epstein ? Yea, we're all screaming from the rooftops about that, too.

It's all bad. It's all nefarious. And all of it deserves attention because, clearly, not enough people get it.

She blocked million’s of voter’s registration data being turned over to the Trump admin last month. Now her house burns down?

They burned Shapiro’s house in Pennsylvania earlier this year.

They murdered Minnesota politicians.

Literally everything coming from that side is coming with bad intentions, if you’re not willing to literally suck Trump’s dick.

would you call williamsburg bk a police state? if i had an opportunity to talk to someone who lives on the southside of chi and has no option to move i would like to get their opinion on how they would feel about something similar to BK being in their neighborhood. just their opinion, they may like the idea, may not. how does that make me an advocate for a police state?

but they still have issues of corruption and abuse

but all you have to do is watch an episode or 2 of The Chi to see why self policing doesn’t work. The chances of ordinary citizens not abusing power is slim.

in a fantasy world I would love for us to have a Black militia that protects from outside forces or pushes back from police abuse but its America so that won’t ever happen.

The reality is we need to get back to forcing police officers to live in the neighborhoods they patrol. Pittsburgh used to have a law that you had to live in city limits to be a cop. They got rid of that requirement and police abuse went up significantly.

$1 billion from police departments to reduce violent crime, hate crime, and crime against women.

$646 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for violence and terrorism prevention.

$545 million from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), cutting its workforce by more than 2,000 personnel and reducing its capacity to keep criminals off the street.

$491 million from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), making our cyber and physical infrastructure more vulnerable to attack.

$468 million from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), greatly reducing its ability to crack down on firearm trafficking and reduce gun violence.

$212 million from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), greatly reducing its capacity to help state and local law enforcement and weakening efforts to fight international drug smuggling impacting the United States.

$107 million from Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Public Safety and Justice, exacerbating current understaffing and making tribal communities less safe.

Not sure why you can't see the obvious. Defund police locally and bring in the military to "regain order"

Why is it so hard for you to see the obvious?

Look around.. the takeover already happened.

Operation Midway Blitz linked to dip in 911 calls, especially in Little Village
By Sam Charles, Laura Rodríguez Presa and Rebecca Johnson
PUBLISHED: November 3, 2025 at 5:00 AM CST | UPDATED: November 3, 2025 at 5:37 AM CST

The rate of 911 calls made in Chicago has dropped precipitously in the two months since the start of Operation Midway Blitz, a Tribune review of city data found.

And nowhere is the decrease more pronounced than in Little Village, home to Chicago’s largest Mexican American population, where calls to 911 have fallen by more than 21% since the surge of federal immigration officers began, city data show.

Neighborhood leaders acknowledge a sharp year-over-year decline in crime, but note that the wave of immigration enforcement has left many residents in fear of calling 911 for help during that stretch.

The decline reflects more than just safer streets in Little Village, said Matt DeMateo, executive director of New Life Centers, a nonprofit serving youths and families in Little Village. It’s residents’ fear, fueled by federal immigration enforcement, that may be driving the decline.

“It’s less about trust in police, it’s more about fear,” DeMateo said. “ICE is creating chaos, and people are making decisions for their own safety.”

The federal government is feeding their narrative that “Chicago’s on fire, Chicago is a hellhole, Chicago’s not safe, or they’re coming to help us and clean up our mess,” DeMateo said. “That’s just frankly not true.”

While some residents perceive police as aligned with federal immigration enforcement, DeMateo said the Chicago Police Department has been supportive locally, including supporting students during a recent walkout.

Still, the intersection of local policing and federal enforcement has created a “gray area” for residents trying to navigate safety, perception and the law.

Drop in calls

In recent weeks, the neighborhood has been the setting of at least two immigration actions, and local students have staged walkouts in protest of federal agents’ repeated use of tear gas.

Since the start of 2025 through Oct. 27, the city has received roughly 100,000 calls to 911 — a 6% decline from 2024, according to data made public by the city’s Office of Inspector General.

However, between Sept. 1 and Oct. 27, 911 calls across the city are down 14% compared with the year before. Chicago’s violent crime has decreased regularly in recent years — certainly a reason for fewer 911 calls — and that remained the case before the incursion of federal immigration authorities.

Chicago police Superintendent Larry Snelling was asked in September if the incursion of federal immigration officers could hamper CPD’s community relations efforts, especially in Latino neighborhoods.

“We want anyone who’s in need of emergency services, a person who has been a victim of a crime, to call the Chicago Police Department, regardless of your status,” Snelling said in an interview with the Tribune. “We’re not going to ask your status, we’re not turning victims over to anyone. That’s not what we do. We’re there to show up, to find out who’s been victimized and who the offenders are, and we’re going to do everything that we can to try to keep that person safe, or those people safe, and to take any (persons) into custody who have offended in a way.”

CPD’s Ogden District, which covers Little Village and neighboring North Lawndale, has seen a drastic decrease in violent crime — outpacing the rest of the city, in fact — throughout 2025. According to the Police Department, the district has recorded 23 homicides through late October, a 45% decline from the previous year. Robberies are down by more than 50%, and overall shooting incidents also have fallen by 48%.

Adding to troubles

Community leaders and longtime residents say the decline in emergency calls is a warning that fear and mistrust are silencing a neighborhood that was already struggling with violence, domestic abuse and trauma.

For many, the fear isn’t of crime itself — it’s of who might show up when they call for help, said Dolores Castañeda, a longtime community activist who works with grieving mothers, domestic violence survivors and undocumented families.

Residents of Little Village and throughout the city’s Southwest Side “are feeling more unsafe than ever before,” Castañeda said.

“What I’ve seen and what people say is that they don’t really want to call the police because they associate the police with ICE,” Castañeda said. “Even at the march we had on Saturday, (community members) were talking about everything the police do to say they’re protecting people, but under the table, the people see how they protect federal agents during confrontations.”

That fear runs deep in the predominantly Latino neighborhood, home to many mixed-status families. When immigration enforcement agents are seen alongside police, or even perceived to be, it sends a chilling message.

“At protests, people see that the police protect the agents,” Castañeda said. “So if there’s domestic violence or something happening at home, they’re even less likely to report it because they know that person and their family could be deported.”

“Maybe there isn’t as much violence visible in the streets, but now it’s happening inside the home,” Castañeda added. “If someone is attacked or robbed, they won’t report it out of fear that their information will be shared.”

Reporting domestic violence

For many survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the U.S. without legal permission, reporting crimes to police often feels like a “big risk,” said Gwendolyn Tinajero-Belles, a clinical program coordinator at YWCA Metropolitan Chicago. Many victims worry that if they say something they’ll find themselves at risk of deportation, she said.

Tinajero-Belles, who provides trauma counseling to people in Cook and DuPage counties, said these fears have only grown more pronounced as immigration enforcement picked up in the area, even at the county domestic violence court. Around half of her clients are immigrants, and she said those who are noncitizens have largely moved their appointments online or canceled.

“I’m scared to go outside, to go to the grocery store, I’m scared to go to work, I’m just scared to go out,” Tinajero-Belles said of her clients’ fears. “Being in isolation a lot of the times can be very similar to what they were experiencing when they were going through those traumas of sexual abuse or domestic violence.”

Her clients who are mothers are especially fearful about what will happen to their children if they report abuse, Tinajero-Belles said.

“It’s like ‘What’s going to happen to my children if I get reported or I get detained?’” she said. “They (tell) me, ‘My children are terrified, my children are scared. What if this is the last time we see each other?’”

ICE also rescinded a policy in January that directed agents to generally avoid detaining and deporting immigrants who were victims of violent crimes or those going through the lengthy application process for visas that allowed some victims to remain in the country. These changes further increased Tinajero-Belles’ concerns that fewer people will report, she said.

“Before, having those protections, I think they felt a little safe. Like, ‘I’m going to risk it and hopefully it turns out well, even though it’s a long wait time too,’” Tinajero-Belles said. “Now, without the protection, my fear is that not a lot of people are going to want to report because, I think … (victims) would rather just not put themselves out there and just maybe hide like a lot of people are doing, hiding at home.”

A federal lawsuit filed last month by immigrant rights groups and crime victims in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California argues that these policy changes are violating laws “designed to shield vulnerable adults and children from harm.” It cites the sharp decline this year in applications for U visas, which cover domestic violence and sexual assault victims, among other crimes.

“Now, because of this administration’s unlawful actions, immigrants are not reporting violent crimes, including domestic violence, rape, trafficking and assault, out of fear of being turned over to the deportation machine,” said Rebecca Brown, a supervising attorney in Public Counsel’s Immigrants’ Rights Project. “Worse still, survivors are being separated from their families — and in some cases being sent straight back to their abusers.”

Baltazar Enriquez, president of the Little Village Community Council, said the mistrust reached new levels after residents saw videos circulating online that appeared to show ICE agents and Chicago police working together during a recent clash between agents and neighborhood residents.

“The people don’t trust the police more than ever,” Enriquez said.

Community groups have been pushing for the expansion of the Ogden District Coordination Officer program, which partners officers with neighborhood organizations and the University of Illinois Chicago to build trust and respond to low-level incidents.

“It’s more effective because they’re more empathetic and you can call them for minor stuff,” Enriquez said. “But when they move good officers away from the neighborhood … people feel abandoned again.”

First off.. I think the 2024 election was rigged but I have no proof.

I know this was Blue States but from what I’m reading GOP lost big in local elections.

This regime is so bad they know they can’t do shit if they lose in 2026 and the wat things are going its going to be a blue Tsunami.

Trump already used all caps to claim these elections weren’t about him and we all know these fools project exactly what they believe when they deny shit.

I’m shocked yet thrilled that Jay Jones won. Its showing that people are used to hearing wild shit and didn’t let that sway them from doing the right thing. Still have no fucking idea what dude was thinking when told it was the wrong number and he still went it but fuck it.. take the W and stunt on these GOP hoe ass niggas

And here is a clip of him talking about crime the way Democrats need to talk and think about crime.

Besides actually substantively initiating programs to address the issue and having much success, dude knows that shen talking to your constituents, no one wants to hear "well, actually, murder is at a 20 year low."

I cannot believe that non-MAGA still uses it. Hard to believe nothing else has popped off and replaced it for everyone else, and left that place for the crazies.
