What is it for you?

For me?

Mariah Carey: Her attitude, her looks (wasn't really feeling her before) the way she moves, I love it all. That started happening like 10 years ago.

Nia Long: She was always too skinny for me, cute, but she never really arouse any passion in me. A couple years ago when the whole cheating scandal broke they were interviewing her and I wanted to yank her threw the T.V. (phone) like Ghost Dad. GYATTDAMN! She fine as frog hair, and I renounce my younger self for thinking any different.

The News: I get up about 5am most days. I chill out with my mushroom coffee and watch last nights news while I scroll on my phone, it's my wake-up ritual and 20 years ago you could not have told me I would be a TV news guy. - Keep on living, as my Mother would say.

Am I the only one? Y'all got stuff, people like this?

I live in DC where traffic is just sort of a way of life ala Houston or LA. You have to chart your course based on avoiding traffic.

I used to hate traffic just because it bored me to tears like Catholic Mass. Like my chest would ache from boredom. And my car was shitty.

Now my car is comfortable. And I still hate traffic but differently - when I'm sitting in traffic I feel like it's depriving me of something fulfilling. Usually I'm on my way to and from work or to a client meeting, where I just want to get there and get started. I enjoy my job so every minute longer it takes me to get there is depriving me of that enjoyment. And this is especially the case when it comes to spending time with my kids...where every minute longer in the car is a minute less I get to pick them up and hang out with them.

Better off reading.

Re: Things/people I appreciate more, it's more about respect, and for me it's pretty much all celebrities. I, like the rest of our culture, was pretty "oh Britney Spears is fucking crazy" and the like back in the early and mid 00s. But in my old age I have a newfound appreciation for just how much bullshit these people put up with, especially at that time. I realize my reckoning comes at around the same time as a more general national reckoning about these things but I find myself always siding with celebrities when they're under attack for anything, by default. Especially younger celebrities.

To be clear, Britney Spears *is* fucking crazy, nowadays. But I think she was driven to that by her circumstances. When you watch interviews of her when she was younger, she was exceptionally well spoken and perceptive, but that kid was taken advantage of to such a level that she eventually did snap and never recovered. Sad story. And her story is just the most well known and sensational of many stories that closely resemble hers.

those songs are hard af now. WTF was I thinking?

Same with other songs like Take Me With U on Purple Rain. I HATED that song as a kid. Shi lt is a banger.

The shiny suit era. I know Diddy aint shit but I was a backpacker who HATED mainstream rap in the 90’s and I missed out on a bunch of ass because I was outside the clubs in cyphers and refusing to dance to the hot shit. Some of those songs were dope and I knew they were dope back then but I was stubborn af.

Eating pussy.

I was against it on some Brand Nubian “I don’t go down south” and I’m sure this is why a relationship or 2 ended. I was selfish as hell back then. But I’m also sure I saved myself from some health problems cause those VA women were wild af.

I was always a Nia Long fan. Mariah was skinny af back in the day.

Fame/Music Biz. I fell into it in college and we had a nice run but I jumped off that train and for years I regretted it because my homie stuck with it and blew the fuck up. I looked back for years which made me mad at life. But I realized that was never my dream. That was HIS dream. I just wanted to make a few songs and own a little lounge. Well, we used to host a few DJ nights and that shit got old real quick. Nigga just wanted to go to bed and here I am working late af woth drunk people wasn’t that much fun. Still fantasize about owning a lounge but just owning it, not running it.

But the main thing is I wouldn’t have my wife and kids and that has been the best thing I’ve done in my lifetime. I still go out to visit from time to time and while those LA trips are fun.. its still a gotdamn job and sitting in a studio for 8 hours listening to the same 3 songs always bored the fuck outta me. But those royalties are no joke… lol.

rant over

Motherfucker was a 'Nam vet from New Jersey that barely said a word to me and fist fought my dad

but he threw the ball and played hoop with me once or twice, and took me on family vacations, the American way

also I stole all his old, out-of-rotation pr0n tapes and shared them with the homies

so salute to that guy, RIP

the body just aches for no damn reason

used to run full court ALL DAY LONG back in the day.

Now if I shoot a few 3 pointers my back starts screaming at me.

They were playing softball at the park and a ball went over the fence. I threw it as hard as I could and a few days later I’m wondering why my left side is hurting. One throw fucked me up for 2 weeks.

It’s something that can be appreciated with a liking for dialogue and real gesticulation

Same goes for live instrumentation and classical music

Working out has never been something I liked but it’s becoming more imperative as I seek to have a healthy body and mind

Reading is good as well

I’d like to believe I’m in an age for refinement

And I've already been to the driving range twice this month, which is the most golf-related activity I've done in a summer in like a decade. So here we go I guess ?

I love living 45 miles outside ATL. I listen to the cows and chickens while I sip my coffee as the sun comes up. I don't hear a bunch of cars. It's just so peaceful to me. I want to now move even further out.

I know yall don't know me personally, but yall know I'm passionate about certain things and a bit of my personality. There are a lot of things that perplexed me, struggles I had, people I've been at odds with, all kinds of things that were easily explained by the very thing I'd walked away from. Turning back to it after decades, everything began to become crystal clear. At the risk of sounding cliche, it's as if I was called. And being as critical and intellectual-leaning as I've been, I fully realize how that sounds to a lot people... people like the person I've been. It's wild, but the teachings of Jesus really are the only way. Retaliation is futile. What you sacrifice for the Kingdom, you gain in greater abundance. Simply love. It's simple, but difficult for the human heart and mind to comprehend without spiritual awakening. Peace to all of yall.

In response to Reply # 0

hated scotch when I was younger. Now I appreciate it more. Ditto with nice red wine.

Never been a big cigar smoker, maybe 1-2 times a year. But now appreciate them more.

Not sure if just evolution of my palette, or you need the experience and wisdom of age to differentiate good from bad in those areas.

Also now that I'm a dad, I really enjoy kids -- both my kids and other people's kids. Just seeing the world afresh through their eyes. Not an experience I ever thought I would have when I was younger.

peace
