Here’s the text of the OPM whistleblower in easier to share format:

OPM employee here, we are not the bad guys

I’m a current employee at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). This is a throwaway account for obvious reasons. I’m posting this because people need to know what’s going on at OPM.

I’ve been an OPM employee for nearly a decade and a Federal Employee for almost 20 years. I’ve never witnessed anything even remotely close to what’s happening right now. In short, there’s a hostile takeover of the federal civil service.

Let me say this in no uncertain terms — OPM has been compromised and taken over. The very backbone of American Government, the HR of all HR in the U.S. Government has been taken over by outside politicals. In just five days, they managed to push aside dozens of non-political, career civil servants who were there specifically to prevent the civil service from becoming the President’s henchmen.

The current Acting Director, Charles (Chuck) Ezell is a low-level branch chief. He’s the friendliest “yes man” you’ll ever meet. He never says no. It’s clear they pushed aside all the high-level non political civil servants who refused to do Donald Trump’s bidding, until they found Chuck.

Under his name, they’ve sent numerous requests to all the agencies to collect information on gov’t employees that they see as a threat to their agenda. Instructions say to send these lists to Amanda Scales. But Amanda is not actually an OPM employee, she works for Elon Musk. She wasn’t even properly cleared by OPM Personnel Security.

Our CIO, Melvin Brown, (also a non political career public servant) was pushed aside just one week into his tenure because he refused to setup email lists to send out direct communications to all career civil servants. Such communications are normally left up to each agency.

Instead, an on-prem (on-site) email server was setup. Someone literally walked into our building and plugged in an email server to our network to make it appear that emails were coming from OPM. It’s been the one sending those various “test” message you’ve all seen. We think they’re building a massive email list of all federal employees to generate mass RIF notices down the road.

The non-political civil servants here at OPM are watching helplessly as our government is being systematically dismantled bit by bit. Even the IGs are being fired to prevent them from investigating the numerous whistleblower complaints we’ve filed.

Please share this and tell the world that OPM is not the bad guy. We’re just as helpless to stop this as the rest of our fellow public servants. Hopefully someone out there can help us, but it’s looking pretty grim.

"21. On 27 January, an unknown OPM employee posted a message to a “Union chat”
which was later uploaded to https://Reddit.com (“Reddit Message”). This message provided
much more detail about the origin and nature of the OPM “distribution and response list.”

22. According to the Reddit Message, posted by “an OPM employee for nearly a
decade and a Federal Employee for almost 20 years,” incoming political appointees have “sent
numerous requests to all the agencies to collect information on gov’t employees.” The Reddit
Message further specifies, “Instructions say to send these lists to Amanda Scales. But Amanda is
not actually an OPM employee, she works for Elon Musk.”

23. According to her LinkedIn page, Amanda Scales works for xAI, a private
corporation, of which Elon Musk is the Chief Executive Officer.

24. According to the Reddit Message:

into caring about the draconian measures Trump is pushing and have them voice their concerns to local gov't officials to serve as some check and balance to slow the nonsense from the White House down.

I don't think the general public has any clue how much power Trump and the White House is trying to hoard.

Try to replicate here.

But to oversimplify it I’ll say this…..
The Federal Workforce is essential in every component of how the US Economy and infrastructure runs and functions. When it no longer exists in a functional capacity, all US functionality is on a toothpick foundation.

Imagine a 12 year old coming to your house and being empowered by forces beyond you to take over and run your home and family. And alll you can do is watch and take it. 12 year old is bossing your kids around, changing your cable plan, smashing your wiz, driving your car, sending out correspondence in your name, all while telling your neighbors that you’re a deadbeat.

Most people, especially his voters, will read it and think this is all part of his plan to drain the swamp and shrink the size of government.

Forwarding it to people won't have the impact that you think it would.

What's missing is directly telling people who it impacts there lives. What checks won't get mailed. What services won't be provided.

No one else in this cadre of nazi neaderthals has what it takes to galvanize such a near-complete portion of the repug base nor its congresspeople. You can tell that's the case cuz as soon as trump disagrees with any of the other nazis, all the cultists immediately side with trump no matter the subject and no matter the facts.

Vance is, as you say, a sociopathic loser dork who couldn't possibly get all those same people behind him. It would split the base.

By then it may be too late to change/stop anything, but there's hope that trump croaks tomorrow and maybe we can salvage some portion of the institutions they're trying so desperately to destroy. Who knows.

In response to Reply # 32

This will likely come across as an overly optimistic post, but let's dig in anyway -

Once Americans, and more importantly American businesses, begin to suffer, congress will turn on him. Military officers can throw out or work around appointed positions if they see them as unfit, which they certainly would be if Trump scrubs the generals and appoints loyalists. There are too many people with too much to lose to allow Trump to take things as far as he suggests. While the bullshit will absolutely be beyond anything we've ever experienced, it takes more than one inept president and his cabinet of incompetent brown-nosers to conduct a military takeover and full dictatorship.

In order to pass a constitutional amendment, the amendment must be ratified by 2/3 of both chambers of congress and by 3/4 of the state legislatures. The senate is only 53/47 and the house is 218/215. There are 23 democrat governors and 27 republican governors. Yes, our current government is quasi-corrupt and there are certainly concerns about rule of law, but it's incredibly unlikely that 2/3 of the entire government wants a king dictator, let alone Donald Trump being that person. Yes, many will comply, but we've already seen evidence this week alone that many are also ready and willing to resist.

Also, we need to be mindful of *who* is introducing the ideas of "exploring the options of him getting a 3rd term"; sycophants like Andy Ogles: https://ogles.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-ogles-proposes-amending-22nd-amendment-allow-trump-serve-third-term

This is political performance art from the back-bench of congressional Republicans. Ogles is pandering for an administration job and demonstrating that he's willing to fellate Trump however he'd like. The proposal for altering the language of the Constitution would state that a president who has not yet served two consecutive terms can continue running for president. This would allow Trump to run in 2028, but not Clinton, Bush, or Obama since they already served two consecutive terms. We're much more likely to descend into a government collapse than we are this getting passed within the next 4 years.

https://archive.ph/0Pi6C

The problem is he's doing things that even his own voters didn't really want, like freeing the 1/6 rioters, gutting federal government, appointing incompetent cabinet members, etc. He's also adding in random dumb shit like renaming the Gulf of Mexico and taking Greenland by force.

His base LOVES it, but not the more casual Trump voters who mostly just wanted cheap groceries and thought this would all be a repeat of his first term laziness. The early returns on Trump 2.0 indicate these proposals so far are not a winning recipe in the long run.

I've almost become an accelerationist when it comes to this.

Let him appoint a bunch of incompetents and when the checks stop arriving on time and basic social services stop working, then he will get white folks mad at him and that will be his undoing.

Sorry, don't see how this is more important than gutting AA/DEI efforts which regular white folks didn't have strong feelings about to start.

What exactly does this "undoing" you guys are so confident in, look like ? Congress is powerless, if not useless/complicit. The people are hella powerless and/or complicit. The FBI/law enforcement is powerless and complicit. The nazis already run the entire judiciary, on balance.

How tf does this "undoing" happen, all that (and more) being the case ?!

I think he will do a lot of damage in 4 years but I remember Reagan and all the damage he caused. We made it through that (Woodrow Wilson, Andrew Jackson and other reactionary Presidents), we will make it through this.

But bookmark this discussion, maybe I am wrong but all the sky is falling talk online isn't doing anything to combat.

What is kinda crazy to me is that when I try to talk about the actual programs that are under attack, folks shrug it off and don't seem to care and want to talk about abstract threats tinged with a bit of conspiracy theory. Whatever gets people motivated I guess.

I read that last week. I see parallels but rewriting the constitution here is a lot harder to do.

I kinda feel like part of the problem is if you say "Trump is Hitler", a lot of the people will right you off as a lefty lunatic and if you say "Well, I don't think Trump is Hitler and trying to install himself as an Emperor" then folks on the left write you off as being soft on Trump.

Hard to have a serious discussion about the threat he poses.

Expound on this thought because it's pretty empty as stated. Who the hell stops whatever they want to do ? They've taken control of everything and put puppets in all important leadership positions who, in theory, *would* be able to stop them in normal times.

... everything JayEmm laid out would give me a sigh of relief.

These are not those times.

What he mentioned about what it takes to pass a constitutional amendment is what I'm talking about. I read the article about Hitler's 53 day takeover multiple times. I know what the constitution says. Trump and the nazis do too, they just don't give a fuck. So again I ask, who's going to stop them if they just decide to ignore that process, and act as if they're all-powerful, and go on as they have been, by overwhelming the system and dismantling it in the process ?

I know you like to say that's "sky is falling" rhetoric but ... it's pretty much exactly what's happening.

Anyway we'll see. I wish I could be as optimistic as you two.

In response to Reply # 59

Trump is merely using those powers in ways we strongly dislike. That is not evidence those powers have changed, or will be changed, or are more threatening now than they were under Biden. Yet.

It's also not evidence they will not be overturned by the courts.

We do have two very recent examples of the Supreme Court ruling against Trump - they rejected Trump's request to block criminal proceedings in his NY hush money case and they upheld congress's Tik Tok ban. The domestic spending freeze will also reach a hurdle at the Supreme Court based on the very words of Brett Kavanaugh himself; "It is in our view extremely difficult to formulate a constitutional theory to justify a refusal by the President to comply with a congressional directive to spend.” (https://casetext.com/case/in-re-aiken-cnty-2)

We need to stay alert but falling into panic will do us no favors.

All of what you said is *technically* true, but at the end of the day the constitution and the law are just things written on paper.

And to my mind, putting any faith in this SC, no matter what restraint they've shown in the past, is laughable. Especially in light of the fact that trump and president musk could just ... ignore the words on the paper and continue on as is. In fact THEY'RE ALREADY FUCKING DOING THAT.

And if and when that happens/continues to happen, again I ask, who will stop him/them ? Congress is behind him and/or feckless. The courts are feckless. And not only that, but all of the most evil, heavily armed militant groups in the country are behind him. He just installed a Fox News anchor who has trump's balls in his mouth as head of Sec of Defense. Another ball washer is about to be confirmed as head of the FBI. And a high enough percentage of both those entities (the military, and federal law enforcement/FBI) are trump voters/nazis to begin with. A large portion of fed and state law enforcement officers and departments countrywide are trump supporters.

So again, if trump decides to go scorched earth and ignore the courts to continue his ongoing coup, Who. Will. Stop. Him. A successful coup is very, very possible and maybe even likely considering the combination of all of the above + his temperament. In other words, he doesn't fucking *have* to follow Hitler's path to power if he doesn't want to. The pieces are in place or will soon be in place.

This is why the word "unprecedented" exists. I can't believe people like you and Buddy still exist and are still underestimating this guy's ability to just skate on shit and do what he wants. He's be doing it his whole goddamn life. And we've all seen the past 10 years happen right ? Fuck, even LABeatHustla ultimately gave up hope.

We will see.

Yeah, I've heard "it's just paper" a lot recently. It's convincing enough and travels well through meme form. It's also incredibly distorted. The Constitution *is* the Republic. It's the foundational legal contract that not only speaks the state into being, but also which the military swears its allegiance to above all else. You seem to be of the mind that our military at large is currently constructed of loyalist Trump bootlickers. I don't agree.

>And if and when that happens/continues to happen, again I ask,
>who will stop him/them ?

My initial answer up ^there^ was his incompetence. It's vague and a bit idealistic, but I still ride with it.

>This is why the word "unprecedented" exists. I can't believe

Well I think I've typed enough within these conversations to dispel any notion that I'm taking this lightly. I only speak for *people like me*, but I feel there's reasonable ways to view these matters in a more literal sense. And I haven't yet seen you provide an alternative approach outside of the sky falling onto us all.

>You seem to be of the mind that our military at large is currently constructed of loyalist Trump bootlickers.

No, I'm of the mind that enough of them are either supporters, or would obey his orders one way or the other because he's the Commander in Chief. Enough of them to pull off what you seem to think is impossible, because of laws, statutes, norms, and the constitution, all of which they're already ignoring. Sure, you're right, the military swears an oath to the constitution (so did he, by the way), but they're also under his chain of command. His orders are to be obeyed.

>And I haven't yet seen you provide an alternative approach outside of the sky falling onto us all.

That's because the sky *is* falling. But look, I hope to god I'm wrong. But judging by the direction things have been going, how bad things have gotten and how quickly it's happened, for the better part of a decade now, I have zero confidence.

The first step in allowing a democracy to die is willingly believing that it can die. Democracy isn’t dead yet, but we will have to fight for it in ways we've never been faced with before.

Apart from that, start by boycotting the very people who benefit most. Take back your power as a consumer. Cut 'em all off.

Unlike places where democracy previously died, our billionaire oligarchs need us as customers to continue their wealth. Their ultimate interest is in lower taxes, not killing off their customers.

I mean, we didn't go from the 1st Reconstruction era to Jim Crow because people didn't fight. The death of democracy happened in spite of.

I'm not saying to not fight, but some things are inevitable.

I'm not "downplaying the obvious", but maybe being a bit pragmatic.

Sure, he and his minions are incredibly effective at chaos and flooding the zone. The truth is that a lot of Trumps biggest promises are already being halted, and there’s still no true sign of a complete political MAGA takeover when a state like Iowa flips a seat in favor of democrats: https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/elections/2025/01/28/iowa-democrats-flip-senate-seat-in-special-election-chris-cournoyer/77999519007/

Yes, the US election system can be oppressed, but it’s way too big & complex to fully oppress all at once. The nation is just too damn big to universally corrupt. Germany in 1933 was depleted by economic and political unrest and has few parallels to modern USA. That's just basic understanding of historical actuality.

This administration's proposals are also going to severely hurt the pocketbooks of big business, banks, and lobbyists too. The financial titans of this country aren't at all interested in seeing 'business as usual' interrupted.

I'm not one to typically advocate someone else's words to help clarify my own point - and I'm sure some of you have already seen this passed around - but I found this weekend's piece by Ezra Klein (yes, I know) to be somewhat relieving: https://archive.ph/9KGY0

We don't have to believe him.

Musk and his puppets under 26 got access to information and systems that never should be in the hands of this group. It's not just flooding the zone, it's the damage right now and the damage they will cause going forward.

Flipping a state senate seat is good, but it's only a small start.

They don't have to oppress the US election system all at once, they only have to do enough to make it harder for anyone running against them to win.

Big business is all in, donated and attended the inauguration, looking forward to the next round of tax cuts, Musk "get rid of regulations" is not going to interrupt business as usual. DEI they can't get rid of that fast enough.

Klien's piece is interesting but we are only two weeks in, still to early say it's not that bad, he may "doom his presidency."

How do you think he got elected? A lot of people downplayed his racism, sexism, tyrannical nature. Calling Trump a nazi has thus far been ineffective.

I think pointing out he is firing a lot of people in government and replacing them with non-government people in itself I think will be ineffective.

I think you have to say because Trump did X, it's going to impact you Y.

I don't think this reddit comments does that.

It was his racism and sexism plus dumb people. I agree some made excuses for him, but anyone with eyes could see who is and what he would do in office.

Wait a min you think it's ineffective to call him out but if you tell
people Trump doing X is going to impact you, that will move the
needle ?

Who will this work on, white women ? Ten years of his non stop clown show is not enough, but explaining how his actions will impact them is the effective strategy we need ?

Explaining his impact to them will not do anything, they had front row seats to that already.

Small sample size but back in the rust belt all the educated people I went to school with lean Dem. All the people who didn’t go to college and work blue collar jobs lean towards Trump.

Its wild and this goes for my elders who are 20 years older too.

All the people who jump on their timelines to argue for Trump are poor white folk. Arguing with Black folk who have multiple degrees.

You can only beat the GOP is if there is a stock market crash or some other tragedy because these white people think Obama and Michelle are dumb and Trump is smart.
