"DEI, Affirmative Action has been deaded and no one seems to care"

At least that's the impression I get from both social media and MSM. There definitely seem to be more interest and concern for Palestine (warranted) and Tik Tok (not warranted).

Yall seeing something different?

DO folks not see those programs impacting their lives?

Was your life not directly positively impacted from an AA or DEI program?

I can't help but feel no one gives a sh*t about anything anymore. I watch people try and drag MLK's daughter because she objected to SexyRed sharing an AI photo of her dancing with MLK.

I feel like we lost the plot. IDK.

Trump (and the GOP) represents the id of "big business" and especially of "bosses"

and a lot of the yapping on the periphery of bosses and big money fucking everyone over is who has dibs to gainful employment/insulation from drudgery.

Affirmative Action (which was mostly to white women's benefit because women in general were excluded from certain jobs) and "DEI" (the boogeyman of the moment) were put in place because these entities can't be trusted to act right.

Now that Trump (and the courts prior to his re-election) has given them carte blanche... it's gonna be 1960s-and-before type nasty on these streets.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

if you fuck up everything, and make it so there's so many "issues" that you can't focus on one, then it makes it harder to combat any single thing.

this is part of their playbook, LITERALLY.

how do you combat the indifference? it's VERY hard and exhausting. i don't have the answers as much as i wish i did.

as a single human, i feel the most i can do is support the good and call out the bad.

Well it took the murder of one our greatest civil rights activist and riots throughout the US, not mention the fear of black folks sniping white officers and attacking white folks for civil rights acts to be made.

If we’re not willing to go as hard or harder & smarter than we did the first time, then what to do?

Also a number of us have found comfort in the blame game vs actually fighting/demanding the civil rights act reinstated and made permanent law.

I can only guess what you are referring to in regards to the blame game but...

why aren't these things permanent law?

Once you ponder that there have been certain administrations who could have made permanent lasting change, but chose not to...its hard to snap out of that.

Over the decades a lot of shit has been very important to democrats when they are trying to win an election...but not so important when they actually have power. Just off the top- voting rights, roe, same sex marriage, dreamers/humane immigration, minimum wage, anti-discrimination in government contracts, etc.

All of that stuff.

And sprinkle on top that Trump is a "dangerous fascist who poses a threat to democracy"...

And yet, none of that has been addressed by democrats when they actually have power. Roe, voting rights, affirmative action gutted. Mass deportations and ICE popping off. Same sex marriage is about to be gutted just watch. And Trumpolini is not only walking free, he's back and bolder than ever.

And other than Trump still walking free, the other issues aren't *just* on the Biden administration. Obama and Clinton too. Shit you could go back to Carter on a few.

My point is, its tough to believe "next time will be different"

And by tough, I mean impossible. Foolish. Fucking stupid, honestly. I'm at the point where I judge anyone who says "we just need to make it to '28 and vote blue" or whatever.

Boycotts, etc are the only way at this point. Democrats aren't coming to save anyone- even if they could.

They have proven time and again they can't be trusted to actually implement permanent change/protections when they can.

By fighting I mean distracted. It’s like the carrot dangling over us every election from two sides of the same coin.

Lets just say civil rights, women’s rights, universal healthcare, etc etc were already made permanent law, even revamped into the constitution, what would be our focus then? Probably poverty, the wage gap and other issues that would cause the republic and the country to be more communist like or have a govt more close to Sweden’s.

So they keep the show rolling by rerunning the same old issues.

I don't really remember much of anything from the history lessons.

what I do remember is the instructor asked everyone why they joined. answered varied.

1. travel

2. become and officer

3. g.i. bill

instructor said nope! you're here to fight. then went on to explain what he meant.

that was the realization that most of us weren't thinking about. lot's of people join the AF to avoid the conflict that other branches deal with from a hand to hand combat standpoint.

Honestly, I always thought the airforce and navy were the safest too. When funds were low in college, I was looking to join the national guard or anything close to home that didn’t require combat. Man from the vet affairs office at my college sat me down with similar info. No matter what branch, you enlist to fight.

Companies reacted to George Floyd with DEI to show they were down with us when we were protesting and fucking up Targets. As soon as the country voted in Trump they switched up quick fast.

Boycotting can work but folks have to do organize and show some serious discipline.

but the reason folks aren’t giving a fuck right now is because its cold as hell. Spring and summer should lead to more movements if they are serious about this shit.

but I also think a lot of folks are tired and drained by politics even though that is part if their plan.

They got their benefits and built their power so throw it out now. Diane Yap, Kenny Xu, and their organization spearheaded the effort to get it thrown out in college admissions.

Asian enrollment went down at Harvard, "black" enrollment went up.

No, not really. These initiatives primarily benefitted white women, LGBT, and two communities I won't mention. If these groups want DEI and affirmative action gone then it'll be gone. *shrugs*

So many idiots parroting this dumb shit. This is their new Affirmative Action and I gotta give it to the GOP. They come up with some great ways to repackage racism.

42. "Republican attorneys general call out Costco for maintaining DEI policie..."
In response to Reply # 0

The pressure campaign begins.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/costco-dei-policy-diversity-equity-inclusion/

Republican attorneys general from 19 states want Costco Wholesale to ditch its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, making the call days after the retailer successfully defended its DEI policies as good for business to shareholders.

In a letter on Monday to Costco CEO Ron Vachris, the AGs accuse the retailer of "clinging to DEI policies that courts and businesses have rejected as illegal," and called on it to account for the legal risks of its actions.

Led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, the Republican officials instructed Costco to let them know within 30 days whether it would get rid of its DEI policies or explain why not.

Costco did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The GOP letter came after Costco shareholders overwhelmingly rejected a proposal that the wholesale club operator evaluate any risks associated to its DEI practices. The shareholder behind the resolution, the National Center for Public Policy Research, argued that DEI "may sound benign," but in fact is "weaponized language concealing a radical Marxist agenda."

Costco's board, however, urged against the conservative think tank's motion ahead of its annual meeting.

"Among other things, a diverse group of employees helps bring originality and creativity to our merchandise offerings, promoting the 'treasure hunt' that our customers value," the retailer stated. Costco's "commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary. The report requested by this proposal would not provide meaningful additional information," it added.

A day after Costco held its ground on its DEI policies, discount store chain Target joined Walmart and other corporations in scaling back on diversity initiatives under attack from conservative activists emboldened by high court decisions and President Trump, who recently banned DEI programs across the federal government.

Intended as a means of promoting fairness in the workplace and open paths for people of color, women and expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity, DEI programs gained momentum after the 2020 murder of George Floyd.

type of the iceberg.

This is why I asked my original question. Most of the middle-class to upperclass people I know got there and benefitted in some manner from Affirmative Action/DEi policies.

Whether it was college admissions, fellowship and internships, to block grants to HBCUs or other government set asides for black people and minorities in contracting/ government contracts etc.

I am asking this question because maybe that's the bubble I live in and other black people don't feel the impact these programs have had on their lives. I am trying to figure out the disconnect.

Bro, the Country is 13.7% Black. 75.3% or 58% White, depending on how you what to define white.

So of course any program that helps minorities or underrepresented folks, will in real numbers, will help white women more if you include WW in the underrepresented/minority. There are just more of them.

And And, the way math works is that it can be true that WW can be the biggest recipients of DEI/AA programs AND at the exact same time most WW aren't the recipients of DEI/AA programs. So Most WW can not give a shit about these programs because it doesn't impact there lives (even though WW benefit the most from those program). You follow that?

But that doesn't mean it's doesn't have a huge impact on Black People.

It's like saying just because White People are the biggest recepients of SNAP or other welfare benefits that it means shutting down those programs won't disproportionately hurt black people. SMH.

Yall Parrot online talking points without thinking through what these things mean. SMH.

That you for saying this. I’ve been trying to pointout the numbers ratios to people, and they just don’t get it. Many people are dumb as fuck! And, so what if say 100 white women benefited and 25 Black and other minorities did too? That’s still a huge number of minorities who will get nothing without DEI. And people are saying they’re cool with that, just because white women also benefited..

They really think we don't see the con.

DEI benefits primarily:

White women
Individuals that identify as 2LGBTQIA+
Religious minorities
Ethnic minorities aka everyone but black Americans
Disabled people
Veterans
Basically everybody except the one group's needs it was meant to address.

Tell Buddy an nem to go preach the benefits of DEI to those groups.

I'm happy this bs is gone so everyone can fight their own battles and stop piggybacking off black American struggle.

That 3.8% is under attack from members of the asian and religious minority community like Ed Blum, Kenny Xu, and Diane Yap.

My point remains the same END ALL OF IT since it doesn't specifically primarily benefit black Americans.

When other groups benefit from DEI they don't share those benefits with black Americans either. Yall are happy with table scraps instead of a whole meal.

4% of the people working in DEI are black. That's not the number that really matters though. Do you have any idea how many black people have benefited from AA/DEI programs? You have a number for that?

From where I sit almost all the successful Black People I know (and I know a lot) have benefited from a AA/DEI program at some point in their career/education. Whether it's College programs or SEO, InRoads, Upward Bound, Posse Foundation, Prep for Prerp, Emma Bowen Foundation (the one that got me my first job) and the list goes on.

If you don't know about these programs than you have missed out on opportunities for upward social mobility for yourself and your kids.

I've spent all of my volunteer efforts over the last 15+ years supporting a AA?DEI non-profit because I can't think of any other programming that will lift more black people out of poverty and into the middle class and beyond than AA/DEI programs (maybe the military is up there).

And all of that is at risk and yall clowns are cheering it on because of some dumb shit yal read online. Because some other groups benefit from it you don't see the value to black people. SMH.

If it isn't DEI/AA programs, what policies and programs do you are about and think will most benefit black people? I am almost certain you won't be able to name one of any substance or practicality.

I can't think of a single post topic that has convinced me more than some of yall really don't have any ideas in your head and only skillset is hating on shit yall don't understand.

Some of yall really ain't about shit. Good luck with that.

He shouldn’t and apparently dont have the pull to off any govt funded program he wants, the judges can box him in. But the fact that he’s trying for anything other than stopping military aid to Israel, is an issue for us all.

Now that they're doing all this goofy shit in the military, this allows the anti-affirmative action folks to go back and pick up that 7, 10 split they left behind.

I mean, that mofo told us what he thought Black jobs were...and he's clearing the way.

are also the first to point out who they believe to be “DEI hires?”

I mean, what a shocking coincidence!

I bet if you investigated further you might discover they don’t have a single racist bone in their body. And better yet, they’re probably the least racist person you’ll ever meet!!
