"this Tony Rock, Chris Rock thing…."

i had no idea this was from 9 months ago.

timestamped link:

shorter clips:

crazy to see Aries ask this question. I remember the first time I found out Chris had a brother in entertainment I asked myself the same question of why isnt he in his projects?

sounds to me that Chris is just non-confrontational. ive seen non-confrontational types create confrontation in their attempt to avoid it.

what i mean is, Patrice Oneal said something similar when speaking on doing Everyone Hates Chris. he said Chris was reluctant to have him on, once he did, he would say to him in passing, “dont fuck my shit up”, as if Patrice wasnt a professional.

Chris also sounds and appears to be more comfortable around yt people and fears more grounded blacks could cause potential problems professionally for him. Tony said this also pertaining to his own past behavior in his younger years.

i dont agree that Tony should of called his brother after Chris told him he was going to be in Top Five. That call was supposed to be made by whatever casting/ set person or Chris himself since he put it out there.
sure, it could of been an oversight, but thats on Chris. brother or not, if you’re putting something on and invite someone, its on you to make sure that person gets the proper invite to get there.

Just looked this up. Six brothers, as well as a sister. Article I read says Chris' mom also fostered 17 additional kids. Seems like there would be some fairly complicated relationship dynamics amongst the Rocks.

Chris is nine years older than Tony.

With so many siblings spaced far apart in age, maybe they just aren't as close as say three brothers born within five years of each other.

...dislike. Without the "closeness" of being close in age and growing up together, they are just family members to each other. Chris might have friends or coworkers that he's much closer to and hooks up with roles.

As an aside, I'd really like to know the timeline of Tony going to get Chris' bike back for him, like he said in the interview. The nine year age gap has me questioning that statement.

Chris Rock or any movie producer has 10 million things going and if people don't follow-up, shit falls through the cracks. He could have mentioned it to his casting person and that person botched the reach out. To say you shouldn't have to call is pride talking.

When I want the work I follow-up.

He made a choice and is now complaining about it.

Show bizness or family aside, it always seems silly to me to complain about someone not calling you when you have the ability to call them. Always.

And so what he asked his brother or anyone on other occasions for something and he said no? I mean sounds like one of those was asking to be casts over Martin Lawrence. SMH.

Sounds like Chris Rock is very much about his business which I can appreciate.

I also appreciate looking out for family.

I also don't appreciate airing family business in the streets.

I also don't think Aires Spears is in any position to tell Chris Rock how to do his career.

Aries Spears motives. Picking at a scab for content. He knows Chris doesn't feel all the way comfortable around Tony. Going there CAN only make Chris look bad.

what the definition misses is the actions after the hurt or anger.

if a relative steals your wallet. it may hurt or anger you.
are you bitter by not leaving you wallet around them anymore?
and yet you still may be hurt or angry they did it.

a bitter person in regards to Chris and Tony would not have come to his brother defense after the slap BECAUSE they are STILL bitter over something prior.

i hate how bitter has become a catch all to describe people just telling the truth.

its crazy that one cant express feelings of anger, hurt, frustration, etc without bitter being attached to it

now if those feelings make you act a certain way for getback or getting even or something like it, yes, thats bitter

I never said Tony was a bitter person. I think he is bitter about this incident. I can be angry about something, and not be an angry person.

You can come up with any definition you like but I think you are overcomplicating it and I think its pretty clear that Tony is angry, hurt and/or resentful because of the bad experiences with his brother in which he felt unjustly treated.

That's it. I am not passing any judgement on his disposition as a person. Just talking about his reaction to the incident.

Being Honest, or Speaking Truthly has nothing to do with it because I don't doubt at all he is speaking truthfully and honestly about why he is bitter about this incident.

Saying someone is bitter about something isn't always the personal diss you are making it out to be.

and i never said you thought he was a bitter person. where is that even coming from?

like you, im speaking on this situation.

the emotions of anger or hurt does not automatically equate bitter.

you didnt answer the question:
can you explain how Tony can be bitter and at the same time come to his brothers defense?

someone still bitter over a situation dont do that because they are still…….bitter.

the answer to that question trumps your dictionary.com definition.

are you saying Tony was done wrong, then *grrr* bitter
then miraculously NOT bitter, came to defend his brother after the slap
then, like a switch, turned to being bitter again when asked by Aries??

you wanna ask Siri next?

I have things that still anger me or hurt me, or I am resentful about how my brother treated me in certain instances. But that is my brother, and I have far more experiences where he treated me well or did well by me. Love him to death and will almost always come to his defense when outsiders are talking shit about him. Relationships are complex. Family relationships are the most complex.

There is no reason why he would feel only one emotion about his brother all the time....unless he is a bitter person who only focuses on the anger and resentment.

and you introduced the phrase "bitter person", I am just pointing out that doesn't apply to Tony or anyone involved.

Tony is not a beta male. He may not be able to handle seeing the way Chris deals with things without giving an opinion.

Chris thinks Tony adding his two cents could potentially mess all of the money up.

Chris showed us all that he didn't relate to his family, right? Figured he was playing it up for a show, but I believe him now.

In response to Reply # 0

I LOVE Patrice but he was notorious for things like shit talking executives to their face, and blowing up opportunities. He mentioned repeatedly how his inability not say whatever he wanted whenever he wanted to whoever he wanted was the biggest reason he wasn't way more famous.

Sucks because he missed out on the podcast era.

I don't think "don't fuck my shit up" in regards to Patrice is all that out of pocket

In response to Reply # 24

that highlighted Patrice doing this very same thing to assorted Tough Crowd crew members.

In addition, there was an ancient Opie and Anthony episode with Chris Rock that had Patrice in the studio as well. Chris Rock mentioned this very same thing to Patrice; Patrice pretty much talked his way out the part of being the character Terry Crews played on Everyone Hates Chris.

Lastly, if memory serves me correct, Patrice DID have a small video podcast very very very early on. I remember it being on YouTube; Donte Nero and he girlfriend that is now a stand-up comic Von DeCarlo were guests on the podcast.

I know this post is supposed to be about Chris Rock, but typing that all out made me miss Patrice so damn much; I'd loved for him to be around during Trump's first presidency alone just to hear his takes.

but yeah, those ancient Opie and Anthony episode was where i got that from probably.

i just remember him saying, coming in, saying his lines, being professional, and going off in a corner being quiet and minding his business until he was needed again is not good in hollywood

i think he said he misunderstood the “dont fuck my shit up” until later. saying that hollywood likes the Jack McBrayer type at 5am on set and thats not him

And I know he had something called the black Phillip show. Dunno if it's thats what you're thinking of or something else.

Its hard to even lock down what his opinions on anything would be today. O&A pretty much died with him even though it wasnt even his show. He wasn't there to balance out Anthony and Ant
just sounded like am talk radio guy. Then you realized o&a didn't even like each other

>Would love to see the colin quinn piece.

It was a brief 2-3 segment on the show, from what little I remember, it was a segment that aired towards the end of the last commercial break before the episode ended.

I'd have to remember the episode it was on to pull up a link, which I unfortunately don't.

**edit**

That was a damn good article. Thank you for throwing up that link. I just noticed it was written on my birthday. Quite the coincidence.

You beat me to the punch.

Remembering that storyline that led to D'Angelo ostracizing himself from Avon which led to Stringer killing D'Angelo is making me miss watching that show with fresh eyes.

Was some damn good storytelling in that show.

Also nice how these branch of replies is deviating so far away from the original subject of the post.

style of comedian. Are you saying he could have been in it because it wouldn't have mattered either way?

Without thinking too much about it I agree he could have figured out a way to put him Black President.

I don't think they could coexist on screen in CB4. Doesn't the character Chris plays seem more like Tony's type?
