I’m not really a “content creator” like that so it was kinda daunting to try to manage another social media account on top of FB and IG. I think it works like most of the rest of them because the other platforms secretly steal their features.
The last time I was logged in, I had a lot of bot followers and people trying to scam crypto. It needs more real users to take it over and be an enjoyable place like Twitter used to be.
Getting attention is what's most important for most of the users of those platforms.
X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & TikTok are the largest attention platforms there are, so people won't leave because they'd have to give up the attention (and perceived status that they've accumulated via followers, retweets, likes, etc.)

...than the massive, generic social media platforms. More of a sense of community, and since they are smaller it keeps a lot of the people away that just want to get attention for themselves.

i've been on twitter for 15 years. i've built a curated feed, especially when it comes to music (and especially when it comes to smaller, more independent artists), etc. and i'm not sure i can give it up tbh.

it is EASY to get funding that dwarfs anything you can get at $399 a pop if you have even the slightest whiff of credentials and a decent business plan.
I'm not saying it's as easy as it is for white people.

but considering how tech bros have ravaged people's personal information, preferences, and privacy to keep their pockets fatter, while also platforming white supremacist speech and punishing pro Black speech, AND INFLUENCING a motherfucking election, to say $399 for the potential to invest in and benefit rather than just say funny shit is definitely a scam is pea soup depth thinking. it ALWAYS looks drastically different for us. perhaps more shutting the fuck up with unsubstantiated critiques rather than shooting down because "vibes" is a better tack but miserable gonna miserable.

Folks are gonna go over to blue sky and realize that the soft over-moderated experience is not fun and miss what they had in Twitter. Seen it happen so many times on music and video game forum exoduses

Like I looked for the Black Twitter starter pack to find some edge and they had Jamelle Bouie in it. Great thinker, scholar, but not a go to for jokes and clowning.

I deleted X a while ago. I do have threads but it seems like it's mostly trolls trying to go viral.

I used to enjoy IG but it’s pretty terrible now. I only find it useful to find out about new music or tours from artists that I follow.
I don’t really care to try anything new, because it feels like even if it’s good initially it’ll become trash before too long, like every other social media platform is now.
