a teacher even attempt to explain it real world application. Not even remotely try. It's just this thing we learned in a vacuum and I figured out formula's and what not but not for what purpose.
It reminds me recently of reading about how kids in Haiti have computer classes but don't have actual computers. So a teacher gets in front of them and talks about right clicking and opening windows and other computer stuff without having a computer in the room. I mean it's possible to learn that way I guess.
Now days kids (and myself) have these great youtube videos which really explains what the heck trig and calculus with visuals and real life examples. Blew my mind.

year in high school and learning both at the same time ended up being a nice combo of theory and practice.
Had a great physics teacher which helped - curriculum was based on a college level physics course. Because of that in my easiest class in my freshman year of college was physics.
