"Kamala Harris’s pledge to Black men"
Mon Oct-14-24 08:00 AM by legsdiamond

I know a common topic among Black men is “what is she going to do for us?”

well.. she listened.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/kamala-harris-black-voters-economic-agenda_n_670c6fd3e4b04266ae857c44

Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday unveiled a list of policies aimed toward Black men, her latest attempt to engage a voting bloc former President Donald Trump and his campaign have attempted to court this election season.

Harris’ opportunity agenda for Black men includes a laundry list of policy proposals, including providing a million loans to Black entrepreneurs and others to start businesses, investing in Black male mentorship and training programs, protecting cryptocurrency assets, launching a health equity initiative focusing on diseases that disproportionately impact Black men like diabetes and prostate cancer, and legalizing recreational marijuana for Black men to participate in the burgeoning industry

The policies draw from stops on her nationwide economic opportunity tour, during which she listened to Black men during visits to predominantly Black cities like Atlanta, Charlotte and Detroit.
The policy rollout comes in the middle of a campaign swing focused in part on Black men. Harris met with Black farmers in North Carolina on Sunday and will participate in a radio town hall in Detroit hosted by “The Breakfast Club” host Charlamagne Tha God on Tuesday.
“Black men care about economics. A lot of African American men specifically care about the cost of inflation, health care, housing, all of those things,” said Quentin Fulks, the Harris-Walz campaign’s deputy principal manager. “When it comes down to it, another thing that’s always underlying data is: How do you create generational wealth? How do you begin to build? A number of these policies attempt to answer that.”

Harris’ plan to provide 1 million loans to black entrepreneurs, for example, would provide resources and capital for the historically marginalized group to pursue business ventures — an avenue for wealth-building. The proposals said the loans would be funded through the Small Business Administration and local partners like banks and would be forgivable up to $20,000.

The Democratic nominee also pledges to provide more financial support for Black farmers and ranchers, set a goal to double quality apprenticeships, and work with Congress to encourage businesses to limit the use of criminal arrest histories and credit scores when vetting potential employees.

The policy proposals come on the heels of much discussion concerning Black male voters. Former President Barack Obama sparked the conversation after he pleaded with Black men to “drop excuses” and support Harris’ bid for the presidency before his speech at a Pittsburgh rally last week.

”Black men feel like show up in the fourth quarter for them, or that there’s an underlying expectation of a vote and nobody does anything to earn it,” Fulks said. “But even beyond that, there are a lot of broken promises. This is very important to the vice president and this campaign feels that everything that you see here is achievable.”

A poll from The New York Times released over the weekend found Harris’ support among Black voters to be substantially smaller than estimates of the support the Democratic presidential candidates received in 2016 and 2020. She led Trump 78% to 15%, with only 70% of Black men saying they would vote for her and 20% backing Trump. That said, polls in 2020 and 2022 ended up understating Black support for Democratic candidates.

Indeed, some political experts and organizers believe the hand-wringing over the Black male vote is largely overblown. Black men have consistently turned out for the Democratic Party. A Washington Post-Ipsos poll last month found support for Harris is solid among Black men.

“Black men do not vote much differently than Black women. This is a talking point being pushed that is harmful, trying to lay blame at the feet of Black men,” former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner (D) wrote on social media.

Still, the Harris-Walz campaign has been working to prevent defections to the Republican Party, having hosted multiple events in battleground states.

Not you are I.. but as a collective.

Did we ever ask for specific things or establish a group that would speak to our demands?

Maybe I'm jaded but I think most of us are voting for her and those who are holding their vote hostage until she wins them over aren't really asking for anything more than acknowledgement that our vote needs to be earned.

then when someone suggests an unconventional or alternative solution, they proudly get called Uncle Ruckus by the same ones without any solution outside of whats expected.

round and round we go.

for example, our cultures obsession with mentorship and hand holding initiatives.
its insulting. it suggests that we dont have the drive, ambition, or intelligence to follow through or complete the steps necessary to achieve our goal.

but to the super woke types a *jag off motion* towards mentorship means you hate black men, you hate black progress. it makes them clutch their pearls and clinch their fists in anger that you wont subscribe to the same ole same ole

when its really saying:
i believe in YOU, black man
i believe YOU have it in YOU, to follow through and be consistent in completing your goal

lack of fathers in the home and lack of positive role models is a real thing in our community unfortunately. Just this morning i was talking to my coworker who is also the coach of his sons little league team. he was telling me how many of the young kids on his team gravitate towards him because they dont have positive male role models in their lives. Mentorship is needed.

black barbers exist
black mailmen exist
plumbers, electricians, teachers, EMTs, counselors, deacons, etc

its all in who you CHOOSE to pay attention to

as a kid i heard someone complaining about kids stealing cars, they said, they just need something to do.
an elder replied: “they have something to do, stealing your car”

we refuse to factor in people (kids) are doing what they want to do. mentoring a child alone is hardly effective without addressing the whole family unit that child goes home to every night.

i worked as a counselor in a juvenile detention facility. ive seen countless times 9-12 months of training and reprogramming get cast to the side after a weekend home visit.

we have conditioned ourselves to settle for these ‘as long as i reach ONE’ tactics that bear little to no fruit. we refuse to assess the problem, approach, and results in order to pivot and seek better solutions.

to add, lack of fathers in the home isn’t the burden we think it is.

ive seen far too many dual parent household kids actively CHOOSE the wrong path.
inversely, ive seen just as many kids fly straight as an arrow because they mama aint play that shit.

and yet, people will call that subjective

yeah ok. meanwhile our culture is forever stuck in a continuous loop of mediocre progress masquerading as an effective solution.

while claiming its tough love.

I don’t see anything wrong with mentorship. Most successful people in business have mentors, coaches, etc

but that is but one of the pledges

I do like your suggestion on police reform and think that is something we all agree is needed.

its timeout for the bullshit, period.

play time BEEN over. we dont have time for feeeelings.

these self inflicted wounds within our culture are asinine and avoidable.

addressing self inflicted wounds shouldn't offend those that seek solutions.

a solution that examines our behavior in an effort to minimize conflict shouldn’t be viewed as blame. problem is, we cant get past our feelings to find out the problem said solution solves. its childlike, sorry.

these are those “i dont like how they said it” type negros

well, suffer then, is how i feel about it. we got shit to do

even though they are 100% wrong
and you are 100% right

but we process this as blame, get in our feelings and get mad

it takes a patient mind to understand this concept

YOU are the variable in the equation
they are the constant
meaning, you already know what they are going to do. all you have to do is act accordingly

Nobody is calling someone Ruckus just because they suggested an unconventional or alternative solution.

The mentorship is not an obsession with our culture. Its been used by others in different areas.

i propose a Federal database of civil rights offenders where if, for example, a county within a state employs said offender, that county loses law enforcement Fed funding.

this would prevent these officers from jumping from precinct to precinct unscathed and without consequence.

Judges too.

have a committee of civil rights attorneys and activists vote on who makes the list.

22. "How exactly would this work?"
In response to Reply # 8

I get the database part, but to be honest, a background check would reveal past misconduct if there are civil judgements or if they had a record. The problem isn't that departments don't know, they just hire these folks anyway.

Not providing federal funding if they employ offenders could work. There are financial disincentives though to hiring these people already because they open themselves up to civil judgements if they hire someone with a record and they go on to cause more judgements.

The committee part is the part that just sounds unworkable. I get it they have records and civil judgements against them already, but where is the due process if non-judges get to decide who gets put on the list? Just sounds completely unconstitutional.

Seems like eliminating "qualified immunity" could have the same results.

25. "George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021"
In response to Reply # 8

Was passed in the House & struck down by the Senate. Introduced by Representative Karen Bass from California.

Passed House (03/03/2021)
George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021

This bill addresses a wide range of policies and issues regarding policing practices and law enforcement accountability. It increases accountability for law enforcement misconduct, restricts the use of certain policing practices, enhances transparency and data collection, and establishes best practices and training requirements.

The bill enhances existing enforcement mechanisms to remedy violations by law enforcement. Among other things, it does the following:

* lowers the criminal intent standard—from willful to knowing or reckless—to convict a law enforcement officer for misconduct in a federal prosecution,

* limits qualified immunity as a defense to liability in a private civil action against a law enforcement officer, and

* grants administrative subpoena power to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in pattern-or-practice investigations.

It establishes a framework to prevent and remedy racial profiling by law enforcement at the federal, state, and local levels. It also limits the unnecessary use of force and restricts the use of no-knock warrants, chokeholds, and carotid holds.

The bill creates a national registry—the National Police Misconduct Registry—to compile data on complaints and records of police misconduct. It also establishes new reporting requirements, including on the use of force, officer misconduct, and routine policing practices (e.g., stops and searches).

Finally, it directs DOJ to create uniform accreditation standards for law enforcement agencies and requires law enforcement officers to complete training on racial profiling, implicit bias, and the duty to intervene when another officer uses excessive force.

Didn't have a restriction of funding.

hence all that gatdamn language that went nowhere

especially when our culture is satisfied with a “well, we tried” approach.

my proposal bypasses congress, just like Trump did

a lot of these ‘toys’ local law enforcement like using and bragging about are only able to be purchased with help from Federal funding.
a good portion of that Federal funding comes from things like housing Federal inmates in State prisons/ jails for trial, pull those contracts.

you pull enough funding, they’ll change or die off. fuck em

my “restriction of funding gets results, they aren't interested in results”

was in reference to you saying: “ Didn't have a restriction of funding.”

when i say: “ hence all that gatdamn language that went nowhere”
im referring to the colorful language liberals fall in love with that does nothing but confuse the situation where a more direct solution (like restriction of funds) gets straight to a desired result. save the legal language for later.

when i read that proposed Act, all i see is a bunch of shit conservatives will never agree to, which they didnt.
i also envision the countless Trump appointed judges and biased congressman it would have to pass through.
on top of that the years it would take to pass, AFTER conservatives get to pick apart every piece of the Act they dont like.

some would call all of that smoke and mirrors, a distraction

i think its more about how we have conditioned ourselves to see failed Acts like this as a more towards progress.

too much wiggle room focusing on complaints and whatnot. too much red tape

its not needed today.
it too much access to video.
make the registry public. once an officer or incident goes viral, have the committee review it and act accordingly. attach said video with it.

Black men are the most progressively voting men among men. There's just this American tradition of targeting and making us the villain us even when we aren't. She's done a great job breaking that down.
As for Kamala's "lift all boats" plan, she already said she wouldn't do anything that only helps Black people, and said it with her entire chest, so fuck her. Damn right I wasn't voting for her anyway. I have as much of a moral obligation to oppose her bullshit as I do Trump's.

In response to Reply # 0
Fri Oct-18-24 08:49 AM by legsdiamond

Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced additional federal investments in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) totaling $1.3 billion. With these new investments, combined with the previously announced $16 billion in total federal investments in HBCUs, the Biden-Harris Administration has set another record of over $17 billion in federal investments in HBCUs from Fiscal Years (FY) 2021 through current available data for FY 2024.

and Obama invested 7 Billion over 7 years.

Obama: https://safesupportivelearning.ed.gov/resources/fact-sheet-obama-administration-investments-historically-black-colleges-and-universities

and we have Black folk celebrating Trump investing $200 Mill per year and acting like its proof he cares about Black folk.

just shows how easy it is to fool people.

Bragging about investing less than Obama and Biden/Harris is some wild shit!

who is they and when was this reported?

https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/education/article293012774.html

For the second year in a row, the historically Black university in Durham leads all 16 of the state’s public universities in enrollment growth, with an increase of 7.7% this fall alone

https://www.highereddive.com/news/hbcus-enrollment-surge-why/710494/

Interest in attending Morgan State University, a historically Black college in Baltimore, has reached historic highs over the past few years. Since 2018, the public university saw its enrollment surge 27%, with 9,808 students attending the institution this past fall.

Is this something happening on a national level or did someone tell you this personally because your social skills are shitty? If it's something that happened locally, wouldn't YOU tell that student to not wait for someone to come and recruit them and get off their lazy Black ass and go apply to the school?

you have evidence of this or is this a personal story?

if enrollment was down I would see your point. Obama, Biden/Kamala gave more to HBCU's while folks praise Trump for "saving HBCU's" while reducing funding for HBCU's in comparison.

again I ask, was your initial post from personal experience or from an article?

Multiple lawsuits led by white farmers, who said the program discriminated against them for being white, stymied the race-targeted program.

Why aren't the Ed Blums and the outrage mafia protesting billions of exclusive aid going to people literally breaking federal law? THEY receive aid but the democrat base cannot receive aid, your words, out of fear it goes to the supreme court.

The second elephant in the room is the asian hate crime bill. Some people feel they went through a tough weekend and got a hate crime bill but I'm generous calling it a harsh two weeks. None of their aid was broken up and distributed to "minorities", "people of color" and "marginalized communities". Where's the outrage mafia and Democrat officials telling them they can't do anything that only benefits them?

When HR 442 passed why didn't any politician protest it? Where was the budget outrage? I got a whole list of exclusive aid for minorities, people of color, and marginalized communities that wasn't protested or sent to the supreme court.

^^ These two items contribute to the ever declining black american vote.

the difference is meant only for us will be met with a lot more skepticism because they dislike us more.

BUT a hate crime law is hard to be mad at.

it was about hate crimes in general and ensuring they were reviewed quickly by the DOJ
