Iā€™ve been wondering how she was going to do this (include Black country artist). Havenā€™t heard the entire album but Iā€™m glad she has Linda Martell on, however did pack all the younger black female country artist into one song, has a number collabs w/Willie Nelson and showcases Shaboozey 2-3xā€™s.

Maybe sheā€™ll come out with a Cowboy Carter II and give a lil more spotlight.

A rock album would be supadope esp a collab with Gary Clark Jr., Nona Hendryx & Fishbone (hmm).

Hmm cause someting tells me Fishboneā€™s main man would feel some kinda way.

it was like 9:00am and the accents were thick. I could hear them but couldnā€™t see them from our booth and my coworker comes back and says ā€œyou have to see thisā€ and I walk around the corner and do a ā€œwtfā€

pretty sure I have them on video.

nice come up for them.

Like I am not even a Bey superfan but as I listened to it this morning I was hard press for any sort of criticism of the project to even cross my mind.

I was waiting for someone else to make the Country Carter post to talk about the album but didn't think it would take the form of opening remarks to be criticisms.

Here is a dope read about Beyonce's CMA performance that sparked all of this.

https://www.vulture.com/article/beyonce-cmas-the-chicks-oral-history.html

My two favorite quotes from the article are:

ā€œThe week we worked with BeyoncĆ© is the single greatest working week of my professional life.ā€

"Sheā€™s quite intense in terms of her preparation for things. Sheā€™s probably one of the hardest-working artists Iā€™ve ever encountered. I think that explains a lot of her success, too. Sheā€™s definitely committed to it. It pushes you to bring your A game."

"I thought she was one of the most high-functioning individuals Iā€™ve been lucky to have been around."

I will just wait until society tells me what song I should like. But I skipped through all of the tracks except for Amen. Go figure.

Every song has 9 song overlays with different vocals. What happened to just singing a simple song?

I get Beyonce's motive so I won't criticize the effort. She is a creator and every album has at least one classic song. She is like Prince+ Michael Jackson+ Madonna +Tina Turner+ Diana Ross.

We won't like everything but she is iconic.

thatā€™s family..

first black woman to chart on Country since 1987ā€¦ this was back in 2007.

but yeah, not much of a country fan but she was one of the first that I knew about in that genre because sheā€™s hometown.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/beyonce-cowboy-carter-boosts-streams-black-country-acts-spotify-1235863979/

Since the albumā€™s release on Friday, the number of first-time listeners for acts like Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts and Shaboozey ā€” who all appear on Cowboy Carter ā€” has increased in the last week.

Spencer saw an uptick of 170 percent in first-time listeners, Roberts and Tanner Adell both went up 125 percent, and Tiera Kennedyā€™s first-time listens were increased by 110 percent. Spencer, Reynolds, Adell and Kennedy collaborated with the Grammy-winning superstar on a cover of The Beatlesā€™ ā€œBlackbird,ā€ the second track on Cowboy Carter.

Willie Jones, who appears alongside BeyoncĆ© on ā€œJust for Fun,ā€ saw an uptick of 75 percent in first-time listeners, and Shaboozey, who is featured on ā€œSweet/Honey/Buckiinā€™ā€ and ā€œSpaghetti,ā€ went up 70 percent.

but anytime I liked a song and it was only 2 minutes I felt short changed.

Hopefully they release a longer cut or ā€œextendedā€ version

In response to Reply # 26

As a hip-hop fan, songs getting shorter and shorter has been the norm. And that's after something like MAdvillain, where most of the songs are under three minutes.

Shoot, the o.g. version of Old Town Road, which was a mega-shit five years ago, was under two minutes.

This is just the direction things are going.

not sure how that is seen as a diss or criticism.

Its just wanting more of a good thing

...two minutes, both lyrically and musically. As stated above, the o.g. version of "Blackbird" is only eight seconds longer than Beyonce's version. There's no need to force a greater run-time if the artist doesn't think it will add anything. Sometimes two minutes is enough.

all these songs are perfect.. but I was frustrated all were short as hell the first times hearing them.

I get it.

I donā€™t like country. Garth Brooks is my steez. That about it.

Wife had the album on when I came home and we ran it back. First listen was solid, but it was repeat listens that did it for me. Bodyguard, Leviā€™s Jeans, Riverdance are my faves. Riverdance might have created a new genre cuz I called it Afro Country House lol, shit goes.

Tyrant, II Hands II Heaven, and that sweet honey buckin round it out for me. She did her thing with this one. Most listened to Bey album since the nasty one she put out a while back haha.

Hope she wins all the awards.

something about covering the biggest country song (Jolene) in your foray into country. I guess she wasn't aware that Dolly really really wanted Beyonce to cover the song and had said so years ago.

As far as it feeling "calculated", I agree. Everything Beyonce and Jay do comes off calculated imo.

Dolly.

The whole point of the album is that Country Music is as much black people music as anybody else. Beyonce doing Country Music isn't doing it as an interloper.

You or Lily Allen wasn't up in arms when Miley Cirus covered Jolene, so why you worried about Beyonce doing it?

Beyonce should do Beyonce means do country with her own writers. Trying to breakout in the genre by remaking hits is garbage

She is just a corporate machine that changes the narrative to fit her objectiveā€¦

As a house music fan, the Renaissance narrative was a joke. House music is alive and well, the black pioneers are viewed as gods and that nonsense that Beyonce needed to save the genre was bullshit. And of course those unnecessary hit remakes of Donna Summer etc..

Her covering Jolene did not equal her not doing her own original songs.

And I don't think it's about saving the genre. I don't know who is saying that. She isn't saving House or Country. She's doing the music she feels like doing.

Artist cover other artist all the time. I am not sure why get indignant when Beyonce does it.

there's 27 songs on her album. a couple covers isn't her trying to break out doing old hits, LOL.

the 'breakout' songs from the album ARE exactly what you said you wanted her to do: beyonce doing country with her own writers.

shit, i don't even like Beyonce's music for the most part, but you implying Beyonce needing to be gimmicky to breakout doing ANYTHING is just dumb.

(All of that is what Dolly said about Beyonce remaking Jolene, YEARS BEFORE Beyonce redid it)
Then yeah, I wouldn't be able to say anything. If anything, I'd have to be mad at Pac if I didn't like the idea.
