4. "Do you remember his career?" In response to Reply # 3
Do you think he was moving differently from his handlers?
It's all questionable now, because Usher came in right after him. I don't think homeboy you're cosigning is even old enough to know about Tevin Campbell like that.

I know Brooklyn is younger than us, but his statement is true. Sometimes people just accept things from one person that they won't accept from another. Why didn't Patrice Rushen get the love other female artists got? It's just not in fate's cards for some people for whatever reason.

They didnt know what he would do or say and that was too much of a risk, esp if he exposed a money machine or money machine group promoted as heterosexual ruffnecks with a majority female audience.

He could obviously sing, but even if you play the game and have the talent, if you don't have that thing...the personality to set you apart from other people...the special quality that makes you stand out on stage, it'll be hard to last.

16. "Who is the most zesty biggest star?" In response to Reply # 0
I just don't think you can become that big of a music star if you are that zesty. You can write off a lot when he is kid but when you get older its harder to conceal that side of yourself. Even Little Richard and Luthor had plausible deniability that they were into women.
TC became a hard sell after he caught that rap for solicitation.

Idk if you know how "zesty" he was at his height, but there's really no one comparable. RIP to the genius, innovator, emancipator, etc. tho. People had never seen or heard anything like him.

Was he ever a strong enough conduit for the songs being written during that time?
Mid-late 90s specfically
On one side you have squeaky clean Boys II Men, pop darlings who can get ALL the straight forward R&B crooner smashes but still came through a "hip hop, new jack swing, can dance vibe" before locking in on ballads
On the opposite side you have R Kelly, who can WRITE, dance, hang with rappers and be Grittier, Raunchy.
Then came USHER, younger, can dance and was already shirt offing at 15
So if I am a songwriter in the mid-late 90s IMO there are a ton of more options to give my song to before we get to Tevin. And I think w/o a SUPER strong advocate manager those great records just go elsewhere.

20. "The problem was his age. You had Luther who was old af and gay" In response to Reply # 18
but we didn’t care because his songs were dope af.
being a shy little kid who came out at 18 or 20
who is he singing to now?
if he had more hits them maybe but wasn’t no one really trying to hear a gay dude singing love songs to women when we now knew he wasn’t into them.
but if Can We Talk comes on? We still singing that shit because it was a dope ass song.

Kinda like some basketball players get the green light to shoot and do whenever they want on the court, but that doesn't mean they are gonna be Kobe or Lebron. Some dudes get that chance and stay going 4-18 from the field w/ 6 turnovers.
