The whole point was to advance "HTTPS everywhere"...they're 90 days, because the process is supposed to be automated (and to mitigate against servers getting their private keys lifted. See: Heartbleed)
Why isn't board.okayplayer setup to renew its cert automatically? Only the server admin can answer that question. This site is ran on a different platform than the main site and the shopify site.
Board tells the internet it is running some rather old web tech. could be some "if we update components to get the automation working, we break the boards" ...if the forums are still part of the OKP plan, I'd imagine whoever is taxed with "fixing" things is probably looking at more than just the certs not updating properly (if such person exists).

How. There are people involved. Make some phone calls. I assume not all the mods are homeless but cant say for sure. Probably a majority of homeless people today have cell phones. So even if all mods are homeless: no excuses!

It's been over a year though.
In retrospect, I think that it's very possible that guy developed it on his own and was going to pitch to whoever is in charge. And it just never happened for a variety of reasons. His exile being one of them.
