From the videos I've seen, it's a lot more interesting when there is some kind of zooming or panning in 3D.

In other samples it looks like 2-3 2D layers sliding over each other which is cool but we've seen it before.

People have been handwringing about this for years, but it's getting scary for the concept of objective reality.

I hope they have some kind of cryptographic watermark system. But it's only a matter of time before this is entirely free and nobody can trust anything they see unless they were there to see it live.

(looking forward to the porn, though...)

MKB’s video on it is great - showing the progression from last year with the AI vid of Will Smith eating spaghetti to these amazing sample videos now:

https://youtu.be/NXpdyAWLDas?si=P6XNLKSwDuz_Ta37

He points out the immediate impact in terms of creators who license stock video footage. And scary to think where this will be a year from now. Or five years from now.

Finance worker pays out $25 million after video call with deepfake ‘chief financial officer’

A finance worker at a multinational firm was tricked into paying out $25 million to fraudsters using deepfake technology to pose as the company’s chief financial officer in a video conference call, according to Hong Kong police.

The elaborate scam saw the worker duped into attending a video call with what he thought were several other members of staff, but all of whom were in fact deepfake recreations, Hong Kong police said at a briefing on Friday.

“(In the) multi-person video conference, it turns out that everyone was fake,” senior superintendent Baron Chan Shun-ching told the city’s public broadcaster RTHK.

Chan said the worker had grown suspicious after he received a message that was purportedly from the company’s UK-based chief financial officer. Initially, the worker suspected it was a phishing email, as it talked of the need for a secret transaction to be carried out.

However, the worker put aside his early doubts after the video call because other people in attendance had looked and sounded just like colleagues he recognized, Chan said.

Believing everyone else on the call was real, the worker agreed to remit a total of $200 million Hong Kong dollars – about $25.6 million, the police officer added.

complete at my job now because of this.

But I don’t understand how the company didn’t have controls in place requiring multiple people to sign off on a transaction like this. And how did he not verify it with someone else? My understanding is it was an email that came in telling him to do it, and when he questioned the email (by responding to the email, not by immediately reporting it when he thought it was shady) they responded by a request for him to join a zoom.

First I assume it should have been easy for him to see that the email was from an external address from his company. Second, if suspicious like he was, why didn’t he forward it to IT or at least to his direct manager to discuss? Third, I have no idea how the company itself didn’t have multiple approvals required for a transaction like that.

And that one didn’t have a specific prompt that would lead it:

Prompt: A young man at his 20s is sitting on a piece of cloud in the sky, reading a book.

Of the 9 samples they released, 3 had people in them. Oneprimpted for the woman in Tokyo, and 2 didn’t specify a location in the prompt - the one for the guy in the clouds, and the one for the trailer featuring a guy in his 30s (which generated a white dude.)

I didnt watch all the tweets from Altman responding to prompt requests, were there more examples there that were generating all white folks as the default?

and I don't know what page you were looking at but there were over 20 samples on the link posted above..some you gotta scroll to the right to see

the other 6 general people prompts created white people..the "grandma" the "old man with grey beard"...etc etc

wild how you're jumping to defend AI from charges of white-centric bias LOL

you can't be serious.

And I’m not jumping to defend anything - I asked the question on what I missed. When I watched those first 9 the Black guy stood out to me because I know that when image generated AI first came out at the end of 2022 there was a good amount of bias. I specifically noticed how detailed his hair was - that was impressive in terms of what was rendered.

I think dude makes a good point that the last place this sort of text to video will take hold is Hollywood though we can expect to see a lot of it in online advertising, youtube, hobbyist and folks coming from the bottom up.

Also agree its hard to see in this current form and this current use (text to video) it being super useful for determinstic filmmaking. Like its a cool party trick to be able to generate random images of ships in a tea cup at war" but if you were a director with a very specific image in mind, I don't see how this helps a great deal.

I am sure I am not thinking creatively enough about how to use it but yeah...
