"what do you do for valentine's day?"

anything?

go all out?

dinner and flowers?

how big of a day is it to you?

it's sporadic in my house. we each MIGHT do something. if so, it won't be too much.

Fortunately for me, the wife hates valentine's dinners at restaurants...so we'll probably do something over the weekend instead.

my wife's ok with less hoopla or a nice time at home.

plus many folks still need to be parents, especially during the middle of the week.

and we do other acts of service and buy each other little gifts all the time, so Valentines Day for us just seems unnecessary.

plus i'm personally more and more turned off by anything that's just an excuse for businesses to run up the sales figures for the year.

used to do stuff all the time and then we looked at each other like “you good? I’m good”

we dont need a holiday to tell us to appreciate each other.

i feel this.

i mean, we aren't rich but we're fortunate enough that we can get what we want when we wamt it more or less.

no reason to dump money at christmas just cuz it's christmas and you're "supposed to." we're probably just gonna get the kids and skip all the adults next year.

which is back to the point of not falling into those capitalistic traps as much as possible.

that weekend we'll get a room, have dinner, maybe waste a few bucks at the casino. Last year I surprised her a got a room at the Four Seasons. We had drinks on the rooftop bar, then just chilled in the room....had room service dinner and breakfast the next morning. Shit ravaged my pockets, but it was worth it.

corporate money grab that I refuse to participate in

show me love any and every day throughout the year...that ain't the day. i also have an actual birthday, so if you need a designated day, pick that one LOL

I've also divested from Mother's Day for the same reason...my sons know that and they're good with it. Literally anytime the 3 of us are together (which is rare) is my "Mother's Day". it makes me so happy to be around them both at the same time.

I USUALLY find a way to get her a small pastry and/or a couple of flowers AROUND the day just show that I know she's alive. But I'm pretty good about showing love on the reg anyway, so she's usually not thirsty for anything crazy on 'the day'.

We usually go grab a good dinner together at some point days later. IE: we're going Sunday or Monday this time.

And anyway, the whole 'galentine's day' thing is more exciting for my wife.AT least 2 different groups of her friends are doing something like that this year. They can link up, 'fill each other's cups' literally and figuratively, say whooooo a lot, and generally have a good time without the hubbies around talking about sports, pre-workout drinks, and/or how hard they would've hugged up on Alicia Keys at the Super Bowl just like Ursher did given a chance.

Like most of us here have said, going out on the actual day is mostly for suckers. And it is a great way to get the worst service possible cuz all of the 'trying to get in there' dudes are having to drag their azzes out somewhere to eat for brownie points. You can go to the same place a few days later and have a much better time. That's the move.
