"Mr & Mrs Smith… "

I binged. It was typical DG tv. Kinda slow, had a decent amount of dark and witty humor..

but Mrs Smith ain’t no damn spy. Why they pick her frumpy ass.. lol. I was rolling anytime they showed her running slow af.

but besides that, it was aight.

just seems like he could’ve cast an Asian who could run or use a body double.. lol.

She aint look like no damn spy when she was slow hoofing it in NYC.

or just don’t have her run, make her a weapons specialist, lol

it was the running scenes for me that felt ridiculous. She was running in place and shit.

it would have opened him up to charges of fetishization.

I think he did what he had to do here.

That being said, she was good in this.

but he was on Community Parks right?

might have something to do with it.

but I guess I can put it this way. I went to VCU with Boris Kodjoe. We all knew we were fighting for 3rd place with that nigga in the room.

but I feel like I would have a shot to pull more women than DG if he walked into a room (before stardom of course).

https://www.interviewmagazine.com/culture/donald-glover-interviews-donald-glover

Speaking of Malcolm X, you hear what Dr. Umar said about you?

Yeah.

What did you think?

It’s old footage. I think he has some interesting ideas, but I disagree with him on that one.

I do think it’s interesting to separate marriage as a political act.

Yeah, I guess. But then where does it end? How would I know if something’s for me if it’s all a political act?

Are you afraid of Black women?

Why are you asking me that?

I feel like your relationship to them has played a big part in your narrative.

I feel like you’re using Black women to question my Blackness.

Alright. Are you gonna teach your kids how to be Black?

Well, yeah? Should someone else?

It feels as though your thoughts on race—

Can I say something? I hate talking about race more than five minutes unless it’s with other Black people and/or we’re laughing.

Can I ask one last one? Then I’m done. Do you think “Black” has lost its value?

In what way?

In whatever way you think it means.

I definitely think it’s diluted in the marketplace. Because everyone can do it and it doesn’t have to be authentic. It happens every 10 to 15 years. I think we’re at the tail end of it now, though.

Do you have any advice for being at the tail end of this cycle?

I think just focus on your perspective, not your “Blackness.”

I guess in a vacuum it’s easier not to focus on your Blackness. But the world will dictate how important it is to you in some ways, no? Like, do you want your kids to not focus on their Blackness?

In some ways I don’t. But I also don’t want them to be the light-skin kid saying, “I don’t see color.”

What do you want your kids to be?

I guess I just want them to be good men? But they decide what they are. I’ll love them regardless.

The nigga really been disrespectful on all levels. He said that back in his mixtape days like right on the heels of the young man being killed, so I was cool on him from jump. He's mostly like a creative version of a Charleston White figure who knows how to say the right thing but, ultimately, seems not to be dedicated to it.

he has a very nerd rap delivery that I didn’t fuck with but he had some nice songs once he branched out.

I remember him taking a real offense when the Weeknd’s crew were wondering if he was a “real nigga”

but he knew gotdamn well what they meant. I also think that is why Atlanta was such a hit. We didn’t expect it to be that Black for obvious reasons.

I really should stop being surprised when I enjoy DG's TV Show stuff. He's really got an amazing hit/miss ratio.

As for Mrs. Smith, it was originally supposed to be ol' girl from Fleabag, but she dropped out. I **think** she was supposed to help him write it too.

their dynamic is completely immature, bumbling and unhealthy, but that's what makes it interesting. they are stumbling through in the way most people do in new relationships: unclear & indirect communication, keeping secrets/lying, unclear boundaries...

and i love when they try to analyze OTHER people's relationships while not even acknowledging the holes in their own

ulitimately, they trauma-bonded...which is hella dangerous. this isn't gonna end well lol

its a show about human interaction/behavior tucked inside a spy thriller, with incredible locations. brilliant

I also think its a bit of a nod the original Charlie's Angels series as you never see "Charlie"..he was always just a voice on an intercom giving the Angels instructions and encouragement
