I haven't had a period in 100 days and its just so fantastic!!
When you start to be on the other side of bleeding every month for FORTY YEARS, you really appreciate the magnitude of such a thing. it's wild. the human body is really amazing (and crazy)
anyway, the doctor says I have to be period-less for at least 1 whole calendar year before i'm "officially" menopause
i had a false start once before..it was gone for the whole summer (which was dope!) then came back at the end of August *womp womp*

she was well on her way and her body was like…Sike!!! She was pissed because it was right before we went on a cruise and she thought she wouldn’t have to worry with that the whole time while being on the beach and swimming. I feel bad for her because she has WILD hot flashes at times. She’ll go from us watching tv with her laying on my chest to…get away from me fool…in minutes. Then it passes and she’s good again. she's ready too.
she's always had terrible periods and experience heavy bleeding - a few times it was potentially life threatening. she currently takes meds just to keep from bleeding out when her period arrives. she's tried EVERYTHING outside of a hysterectomy. that was on the table until recently - after years of trial and error with various meds and birth control, her doctor got her dialed in on the right medicine(s).
despite that, her periods still have significant bleeding and pain. i feel hella bad for her, especially cuz i have zero control. all i can do is be supportive and helpful.
all signs point to her life improving once it hits so we're both looking forward to it.

I’m not sure if heavy bleeding is a symptom or not, though much of what you’re describing is what happened to my wife for years. Many surgeries later, she’s done with it all…but it’s criminal how few doctors even think about endo. It’s wild how many women are suffering.
Given that, I'm sure you guys have dealt with the healthcare system extensively and how fucking exhausting it is...so, sending you all my good vibes. Hope she gets some relief.

its actually hard to clock them as hot flashes when they first start cuz to me, 'flash' is a misnomer. it kind of sneaks up on you...its gradual. after a while, i started noticing the beginning of it...it was like heat starting from my chin and moving upward to my forehead...super weird

they don't really teach boys/men much about womens reproduction outside of the basics.
until i was with her i just thought the period comes, a little blood and some moodiness and then it's over.
now i know a lot of women have a variety of issues when it comes to their periods and their reproductive organs, etc.
shit, even having babies - they teach men that you just shoot the club up and boom, baby! it wasn't until we actually wanted to have kids that i learned there's so much more to it, that a lot of women and couples lose pregnancies before they have a successful one (we lost two), etc.

But for her, a lot of it is the "circumstances" surrounding it. She had breast cancer, and she has to undergo hormone treatment for five years (she's almost two year in) in hopes of preventing it from returning. And part of that included induced menopause.
She would be fine with it if it happened naturally, but dealing with all the other shit that comes with the treatments, plus menopause, is REALLY wearing on her.

Also have a younger cousin with no kids who is getting fibroids removed.

I can’t call it. My age suggests I should be at least in peri-menopause, and my mom was well done by my age… but beyond still getting my period every month, I don’t really have any symptoms.

Yeah while conventional wisdom leads us to believe our bodies align with our mom (in terms and start and end of menses), i haven't seen alot of cases of it actually being true.

there were parts of her skin that normally cold for her and cold to the touch. as menopause started, those parts become warm as the norm.
she wears less layers to bed and turns fans on when it's not fan time. those hot 'flashes' were so random and frequent, she'd be hella annoyed. nothing could be done but wait til it passes.
she's gone back and forth on meds and finally found the right mix. things have settle for now. hopefully she'll be good going forward.
my role is being aware, available, and supportive.

I HATE this shit. Got an appt on Vday with doc for plans of removal.
Aside from that I woke up drenched for a year about 2 years ago. Now I just get super hot but not quite a hot flash but I, who use to hate to see winter coming, love a super cold breeze now. I wish I could ask my mom when menopause was like for her but she went through chemo in her late 30’s which knocked it out and then had a baby at 46 so she has no clue. It just went away, no hot flashes, no night sweats etc.
