"Amaria and Tash (2020's R&B)"
Thu Dec-14-23 09:52 PM by c71

I made the great 2010's R&B post because I can think of few 2010 R&B artists that really came with a lot. I'm on IG a lot and Pandora radio stations somewhat and I'm still not getting put on to much 2010's R&B

https://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=4&topic_id=13492376&mesg_id=13492376&listing_type=search

However....

2020's R&B is a different matter....altogether

Whereas it seems like IG people have a never-ending drive to post up and celebrate 80's, 90's, 2000's R&B songs..(and they ain't doing much celebrating 2010's R&B in IG posts) But....pretty often folks on IG will have a 2020's R&B song as background to their IG posts....AND....I'm discovering 2020's R&B got A LOT.....I MEAN .... A LOT.

Take for instance: Amaria and Tash

I realized recently that many if not most of the new R&B that's coming out is directly modeled after the feeling of Neo-Soul. When Neo-Soul was new, and then later in its heyday, I think most of us saw it as a branch off the trunk of the core of 90s R&B, which was Hip-Hop Soul. But Neo Soul "won" in the end. I'm still working out my ideas as to why that happened - why is most new R&B modeled after Erykah rather than Faith? D'Angelo rather than Robert (his crimes notwithstanding).

So, I agree that Neo-Soul is responsible for pretty much all of the worthwhile 2020's R&B.

So....

Don't know how you overlooked that.

I also read Pitchfork.com "8 albums out today you have to hear" every Fri (used to keep with OKP's weekly new album thing).

TOKPR of going off on someone's own notions.

..I didn't give a TOKPR. I said streaming services because you mentioned pandora. *We all know IG isn't a streaming service, but clearly the intersections of art & reception have grown beyond traditional avenues.

My point is that you continue lamenting about how difficult its been for you to be put on to new/recent r&b (any era, really), when we clearly have the world at our fingertips.

that my algorithm has been well curated from a decade of use.

that being said, music isn't just gonna fall on your head you gotta take SOME sort of active approach if you really wanna find new shit, which is to say i agree with you.

when my algorithm wasn't maybe so curated? if i found an artist i liked on Spotify (and probably every other service) there's that "People also like" section of artists that are perhaps in the same lane as whatever you're peeping currently and i'd look thru that shit religiously for years.

but is this only something you can get if you pay for the premium or is it available to everyone?

the OP seems like a guy who uses the bare minimum and it may be intentional. Feels like he is an old head who prolly uses the library internets to stream songs.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

..LOL

Most streaming services offer recommendations in every tier. Beyond the streamers, we have the world at our fingertips. Anyone looking to step off the beaten path has a plethora of options available.

...leading me to new music (as well as Pitchfork.com and youtube)

but....

...on a post with about 20+ songs linked in the OP...

Seems strange that radio and streaming service usage (streaming service usage championed by you and another reply) is the focus of this post.

I mean...

Does linking 20+ songs in the OP seem like I am focusing on what I'm NOT getting from my methods?

?????????????????????????????

Or does it seem like the focus is what someone with an agenda wanted to post-jack about?

Edit: Pandora radio costs $9.99 a month. So that is not the bare minimum. Pandora makes "stations" for THOUSANDS of artists. So, I listen to multiple Pandora stations of various artists.

Yeah, that's why I use IG (ignoring what I clearly state I'm doing - using different methods to find music)

>My point is that you continue lamenting about how difficult

My previous post (again) was about 2010's, so when have I been saying it's hard for me to be put on for recent 2020's music? Again TOKPR

I have a post in the Lesson (MP3 chronicles) I regularly fill up with music.

Again, you just went with your own notions.

The kids have loved him since 2019 (if not earlier) but the radio has just started playing his music in 2023. The radio is thee WORST place to find what’s hot in the streets.
