There's a young dude/brother in my neighborhood that is *always* and I mean *always* jaywalking/hanging out in traffic.

He seems to be late 20s/early 30s. Not homeless, but maybe a little neuro-divergent?

Multiple times a week he's in traffic and not in crosswalks on very busy streets with a speed limit of 45.

He'll walk off the curb while traffic is coming then sort of turn around or walk parallel or just spin and dip.

He's not visibly crazy or ranting and doesn't seem to want to be hit by a car. He's outside a lot of the day, I think he just likes to be outside and walking around.

He's never in the same place - he's all over so I can't just choose a different route and avoid it all together.

I really don't want to hit him.

And it bothers the piss out of me.
There’s an episode where Craig comes across this garage of 20 year old slacker types and him and his friends just walk into the garage to join the band
And like … no no no.
So I paused that scene, looked up who created the show and sure enough …
And Ive been mad ever since.

again, just because YOU wouldn't do it and can't imagine it, doesn't mean it isn't someone else's reality

in the suburbs, families often know each other and each other's kids for up to 3 generations

yes, that may be true for alot of folks...but again, you have no way of knowing who that scene is actually relatable to because it isn't relatable TO YOU.

and so were their grandparents.

so we don’t even remember the first time we met because we were so young

then we had tons of italians on our streets so our parents all knew them too

add on top of it, we had a softball league where all the bars in the area had teams so all our parents and grandparents would hang together and the kids would run wild during games.

when our elders pass on back home, its Black and white folks paying respects.

its the one thing I miss about not living back home. My kids can feel it too because when they go home, I don’t helicopter at all. They run free and my friends and fam will bri g them back to me if they get upset or need to use the bathroom.

if you grow up in a craig the creek type setting you know friends, older silbings, weirdos, etc

man, my wife still trips out because we have a family with the same last name as ours but we call them the “white mitchells”

its not until you are old enough to date their daughters that things get weird.

but we would hang with older kids all the time talking shit.

I honestly wondered if these writers were from Western PA because this show is my childhood. We had a place called the mountain where we would hang.

Even now when I go back we all trip over how much fun we had as kids just running the streets til the lights came on.

With full on Maga and Proud Boys, Richard Spencer shit in the news
This show went into production months after Charlottesville
6 years after Trayvon, 4 years after Tamir Rice,
We’re saying Black folks weren’t telling their kids to be a little more cautious around white people?
Show didn’t have to be full on “MESSAGE” but I mean … you remember the conversations we were having that year

not for adults to ruin it with talk about Trump and Trayvon

imagine our parents shitting on our cartoon experience because of the Atlanta Child murders or because Reagan was president.

For boys
Sailor Moon isnt for girls
Old She rah isnt for girls
I try to put on some 80s and 90s “girls” stuff and it’s all suuupppeer girlie
But I can put on newer She Ra, newer My Little Pony and it all fits with what this little girl and her friends like.

That’s the lens I see Black shows through. Like its only being imagined through a very narrow, very non Black lens
And I want my son, to have that same thing when he reaches his sisters age. That he has something that’ll be authentic to him.

20. "Tv has always been preachy at kids"
In response to Reply # 18

Even modern ones
Steven universe is self acceptance and acceptance of others
Gumball is sibling learning
Bluey is family centric adventures
I could go on. But cartoon TV has always had a message
But all of those shows also go with non humans as the characters to avoid any archetypes or biases
They become global shows and have a universal message
There are very very few shows about or for young Black boys to self identify with always have been
Nothing stops us from seeing ourselves but content drawn about us is just not a thing
So when the one Black centric content is created in the eyes of white men, I’ll pass on seeing us through their lens. Black writers or not.

used to be something reserved for after a run or helping someone move. the other day I was like when did I start doing this from things like coming back from getting something out of the car.

The closest thing to the fountain of youth is exercise. Both aerobic and resistance training. What most people don't know is how significant exercise is for the brain.....

A recent study showed that independent of muscle mass, strength had a direct connection to cognitive ability. The stronger you are, the better one's cognitive function.

Aerobic exercise has been proven to increase BDNF (Brain-derived neurotrophic factor) which is crucial for neurogenesis (formation of new neurons).

Intense exercise produces lactate that incraseses BDNF...

Both aerobic exercise and strength training improves skin elasticity and dermal structure.

While muscle mass has no benefit for cognitive function, it's a crucial factor for recovery from hospitalization - "...low muscle mass results in an increased risk of readmission, falls and fractures, longer hospital stays, disability, reduced functional capacity, loss of independence, and higher risk of mortality in hospitalized patients."

At the very least, muscle mass will help you during severely catabolic episodes. Think of it as margin of safety.

I can post links for furthering reading if anyone's curious.

Good things... I guess. Hard to evaluate when emotions are high, but the main thing is bad ... me and him never reconciled. He and I never came to an understanding, and now he is gone.

I told y'all before... this aint no movie. Aint no sugary sweet endings in real life. It just is what it it is.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
