And honestly she kinda is.
Not her fault. Every system we have in this country is designed to help someone that isn't a little Black girl, statistically she's at the bottom of the bottom of the totem pole for systematic design.

But what that means is that a system that was designed for little white boys to be a little less Columbiney (hey maybe let's talk and express our emotions in more open and positive ways early) can get flipped on it's head when you don't need those same tools

So if you tell a child from birth that it's ok to cry, and all you ever tell them is it's okay to cry it'll be the first thing they do when they feel sad.

So the fine line I'm walking is "hey it's okay to cry if you're feeling sad, it's really ok to express your emotions, but you can't control how people respond to you, at a certain point/age/whatever people are going to respond first to your crying before they ever respond to what the actual problem is. So you may be hungry and somehow that leads to tears, a grown up is going to talk to you about crying before they ever talk to you about food. A kid may say something mean to you and that makes you cry, and then they're going to talk about your crying instead of what hurt your feelings. It's up to you, I'm not saying don't cry, but what I'm saying is that you gotta pick what's most important to you ... expressing how you feel or fixing the problem that's making you feel bad"

That was the main talk, now I can just go back and remind her of portions of that talk. But I shouldn't have to explain to my wife, the school, the assessment testing etc that her "crying problem" isn't a her problem every single one y'all taught her to cry when she's upset and now you're abruptly showing her it's not ok to at times and even worse treating it like she has an emotional regulation problem as opposed to none of us taught her different problem.

to be out of work for several months. That guy who said he had to sell his house because of the strike, it would seem to me, was living above his means. I wonder if people who make big money forget that they still have to have a budget. Like, the word budget is not synonymous with broke for me. It is quite the opposite in my life! I need to survive the waves of life and that is why I have a budget. It adjusts up when I make more and down when I make less.

>That guy who said he had to sell his house because of the strike, it would seem to me, was living above his means.

Where did you find out his income, his savings, his expenses, etc.?? How did you make that judgement? (BTW, his income is now $0.00. )

Was he high stepping and living without a care because the gravy train "would NEVER END!!!" or is he not-rich, not spending extravagantly, but didn't have the money in reserve because of actual reasonable expenses?

How do you know????

Reminds me of when Robert Rector of the right-wing Heritage Foundation said we should cut welfare benefits because people on welfare have luxuries like microwaves and televisions.

Link to Colbert Report segment on it: https://www.cc.com/video/zq2rpw/the-colbert-report-poor-in-america

Hey, this dude could have 5 sports cars, an addition to coke, and is a gambling addict. Or he could be someone who lives in California and makes $100,000k a year with a mortage of $3,300 a month and a 2 year old car. How do you know??

I know *a TON* of people who aren't irresponsible who would be in trouble if all income was lost for 3 months. (Not me.)

at his means. I live below - not above or at - because I need to be able to survive the waves of life.

And just to be clear, I’m talking about the Hollywood strikes. When it comes to people who work in the service industry I wouldn’t be surprised by a strike causing one of them to have to sell their house,

The dude I am talking about is a big celebrity. He passed the threshold of surviving paycheck to paycheck a long time ago. He has long passed that living wage point.

"Hollywood strikers?" You mean the blue collars works like associate producers, PAs, etc. who make 100,000 or less? The vast majority - like 99% of "Hollywood workers" aren't rich.

Or do you mean "rich celebrities." What is a rich celebrity? If Billy Porter makes $300,00 a year, then pays taxes, lawyers, agent, etc. then he's making $150k or less and living in Hollywood.

Do you know what he makes? I don't.

Does he make and brings home $500k a year? $4000k? $300k? $1 million?

If this was Tom Cruise or Nicolas Cage you might have a point - but Billy Porter seems like he's not rich - not poor- but not rich.

Or do you expect him to rent a room in a boarding house and eat ramen? (Median house cost in Hollywood is $1.04 million - that's hard to live on $300k a year. )

I don't think you can know that for this dude. I can't.

And he's in no way the average Hollywood worker.

I have a different opinion than you do for most of the people on strike. And a couple of rich knuckleheads being irresponsible doesn't really change my overall opinion.

talking about is that guy. If you re-read my first post it is focused on my opinion on that guy. My second comment is clarifying the specific strike/strikes that this guy is part of because I thought maybe you thought I was talking about the service workers.

This is turning into one of those “OKP arguments” that for almost 20 years I have been almost 100% successful at avoiding.

Not from Google searches lol.

I certainly wasn't making the kinda money he has made in his lifetime when I was living there.

I also know that decisions have to be made when you are unemployed for an extended period of time.. Case in point: I don't live there no more.

I still think what I think about that situation.

bought it for 1.4 and its now worth 2.4.

I doubt its his primary residence. Reports say he bought it when he was married or with his estranged partner.

it could be bad budgeting but its prolly good budgeting if you think about it.

and the Bob Igers are hoping these folks start to lose their housing and apartments and walk across that picket line.

I just think dude is cashing out and saving his coins until the strike ends. Its just a house and I think its frugal on his part to sell and wait things out.

Dude is from the hood in the Burgh so I think he is going old school with it. Prolly in NYC with friends hustling until the strike ends.
