I've been on a project that I see as an abject failure but that everyone else is painting as being "okay."
We had a 2nd failed go live yesterday.
We have a post mortem meeting scheduled for Friday and I want to bring up at least 8 horrible decisions in the project, most of which I brought up in real time and that I was overruled on, but I also feel the feedback will not be accepted and that I'll get blow back.
Also on Monday apparently I was very rude to a fellow team member and they got very upset (nearly cried) on the conference call, but I honestly did not notice it. But everyone else on the call did and now I have to figure out a way to say "I didn't mean to make you cry" even though I feel I was simply trying to focus on the objective and not discuss other activities.
BTW, the objective I was focused on was successful go-live - and it failed yesterday. So me trying to influence it really had no affect, except to make a fellow team member feel very bad.

It's this one I'm sure. I'm going to talk to this person today and apologize, then also follow-up in writing.
But I didn't notice it *at all* on the call, and someone else was told me they could hear the person being *very* audibly upset. I simply didn't hear it - I would have backed down - this wasn't even a big deal for me.
>or maybe they all sensitive because the project is shit
Yes, and they always seem to find a way to dump more on my plate and I'm definitely upset about it. I've talked to my manager and the director about it - but have not gotten any support.
I mean meetings where I'm like "We should tell the customer downtime might be as long as 4 hours" and they called a big management meeting about it and were like "4 hours is outrageous, let's tell them MAX 2 hours" and I was like "It'll probably take longer since it's the first time we've done it this way, and it's complex. We could do it overnight if the system is this critical, but I know the customer and the product and 4 hours is fine with them."
I talked to the customer and told them "2 hours" as directed and the customer was like "Oh, if it needs to be down a full day it's fine, just do it right."
That launch failed after 5 hours, and it took another 1 hour to rollback. I didn't say a word in our next meeting and no one brought it up either.

The way our company works is performance reviews every six months Meeting with your manager every week Today I made what’s essentially a sales pitch for my work and I got full buy in. Right now there’s no “real” business need for my role, there’s tons of need for it and on a macro scale I now need to move into salary justification. But in the end I’m shadow building a program and bridge. It’s a helluva gap in a company this size, probably someone else’s job to be doing it. But … thats not my problem

This has been an awesome experience, though a little boring at times.
But participating in and contributing to this process has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve had a few moments to shine and stand out and I’ve never appreciated an opportunity so much in my life.
It’s helped me step up and become a much more visible and vocal leader in my office, having lead a few “unity breaks” that simulate a walkout/strike.
It’s also afforded me direct access to the bigwigs, enabling me to deal with the top of the food chain directly for a grievance me and my BA filed on behalf of a member.
That and I participated in a strike line against Amazon.
It’s been a good year so far. It’s been the most rewarding and flourishing stretch of my working life, and there’s more to come.

There are few things I care about less. It bores me to tears, every time.
I’ve never heard a single “my cat” story that interested me even slightly.
I have a dog. I can’t imagine striking up a convo about anything she does. People ask though, so I politely oblige with small talk about how she won’t use a dog bed to save her life, choosing instead to sleep on our pillows.
And for the life of me I cannot imagine why that would be interesting to anyone.
I’ve had and overheard far too many of these convos over the last few months.

Feels like I have less patience each year. Trying to work with a vendor to have them improve how they do things. I think I'm very much over the mistakes they make and I'm also doing this project just to flesh out the option but thinking it won't be something we use much. So anything they say that doesn't make sense to me I reply with a combative tone. I need to chill and find a way to not get instantly annoyed by them lol

and it's because this person wouldn't stop talking and didn't give a break for anyone to interject so the only way to get in a word edge-wise was to just start talking over them. I am sure she will say to herself I talked over her but some times it has to be done.
