It costs more to manufacture and ship than the price Temu purchased the stuff for. Its made of materials that nobody else would purchase so its left over raw material. And now its packaged for you like a deal when it is literally two or three levels of scrap sold to you for a price rather than disposed of for zero And even worse you then have to dispose of the plastic bag inside and the box needed to ship.

We produce way too much shit, we're literally filling the oceans with it, microplastics are now found in the human body. It's much better that we "rebrand" the trash than keep making more and more of it.

We never have. We gave first pass recycling to China in the 70s so they could use it to make cheap plastic toys. Then we bought that shit, put it in landfills and/or shipped it back to China.
All out 70s and 80s toys were metal. Historically it had been wood.
But plastic is a whole other beast. They’re literally just sending trash back. But with more waste. More labor to stuff it back into shipping crates, to send by boat, to get to a dock, to move by truck to go to a warehouse to be packaged with plastic and cardboard to be moved to our houses to then have us dispose of the plastic and cardboard all for a product that we didnt need in the first place but the price point made us feel we could find a use

Yes, we, in the United States overconsume to the nth degree. You'll find no argument with me there. But unless you're willing to look at consumption under capitalism as the real issue here... I don't see the point in being upset that we're passing shit back and forth across the ocean. We, the universal we, are either going to be producing new plastic to sell each other shit, or reuse the old plastic.
If your argument is there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, I agree.

It's reused in clothing, which gets washed and damaged more frequently than normal plastic uses. And enters the water stream to sea life to which it then ends up in our bodies.

Amazon Prime has me spoiled enough that I don’t even mind paying way more for most stuff is I know I’ll have it in 1-2 days.
I bought one of those hotel collection oil diffusers from an IG add (half off the Amazon cost) and the shipping took 3 weeks. Had so much anxiety about that wait time.
