"what motivates someone to claim to be Black online"

and then drops an MLK quote about the content of a man’s character to a white poster.

Maybe dude is Black and lost but I swear.. that is like THE most obvious tell that you aren’t Black.

or maybe dude is one of “those” but that shit had me rolling

I feel like any Black person can answer these 5 trivia questions

1) finish the second half of this song lyric “I used to loooove them and leave them, that’s…
2) The bullies chasing Kid in House Party belonged to this real life R&B group
3) Why did Buggin Out boycott Sal’s?
4) what light do you never turn off in the kitchen?
5) What’s Martin’s favorite nickname for Pam?

and they grew up in fucking Shawnee Mission. I also give people the side eye who claim St. Louis and they are from Troy. lol

At least Shawnee Mission is part of the same metro area. Unfortunately, I've been there and have had to drive through. Where the hell is Troy? I'd have to look it up to even know where it is! That aint St. Louis to me.

its always easiest to give locations people know. If you are from 20 minutes outside KC dont tell me that shit because I wont know it unless I’m from KC.

If I meet someone new from Pittsburgh we always follow up with “what part?” and then they say the town or area.

I’m from the burbs. No shame. Had a woman say “that aint the city.. I said “I know this” and then I asked where she is from and I replied “THAT AINT THE CITY” and she walked off mad.

I'm not Black so I can't really speak on these with any authority but it does remind me of a trivia night I've gone to. The dude just expect that EVERYONE in there had the same exact experience growing up. "What you mean you weren't obsessed with this one specific toy/show/movie??"

I was also 6 when House Party 1 came out. I watched it but don't remember much specifically about it. I could make some guesses but I'd probably be wrong. Rick James I would maaaybe know if I heard it sung. I'm horrible at lyrics though so unless it was from specific songs from rappers that I love I probably would not get it. Do The Right thing was cause of the pictures on the wall but its deeper than that so not sure what specific answer you wanted, I could be wrong though lol. Light thing just made me laugh, I could make guesses but I don't know. I loved Martin, I watched that so much but I don't remember lol

and nah.. its not about everyone having the same experience.

but if you are latino, indian, asian, etc.. you have movies and songs that are pretty universal. When played at a party or cookout and that old ass song comes on that all your momma or pappy used to play.. most people will be like “ooooh shit” not

“wtf is this.. play some new shit”

we aren’t too far gone to act like our cultures don’t have particular movies and songs we all rocked to.

When a DJ plays Slick Ricks A Childrens Story and it goes “open up the door yo and guess who I saw” he always mutes the track and the crowd screams… ??????

and if don’t know that shit.. lmao.

House Party but don't remember much (except when Tisha Campbell was dancing? Maybe?). It was always on TNT or TBS when I was a teenager. Same with Boomerang! It was just on and I watched in between sleeping or playing video games or whatever. It never really interested me beyond the fact that there were black actors and actresses in it.

Obviously the main singer isn't as strong of a singer as the original, but this ain't bad.

I must admit that in general I like looking at whites dancing and grooving to music because they have a freeness and lack of need to stay on beat. It is endlessly fascinating.

i was expecting it to be a lot more whitebread than it was. but it was fine.

the only slightly weird part to me was that they were so reserved. it prolly would have come off a lot better if they opened up a bit and moved with a lil more freedom. also i think that lead singer has more talent than she lets on in this video. i would have liked to see her really try to blow.

it was cool tho.

But given that this is a white church group, it could have sounded a lot worse. It's a great song though, so I'm not surprised people want to cover it.

Or shit, if you wanna go auntie, Patti LaBelle would have slayed it too.

Brandy can sing, but this song needed somebody with grit and strength. Her voice isn't the right sound for it.

where the Black woman married to a white dude went to a Black cookout held by some doctors. She showed up with raisins in the potato salad and those. lack women were roasting her ass. Her momma said her white husband was to blame.

I’m blaming you. If you know these, she should know these.

don’t deny her the blackness she needs to survive at a cookout without you

I’m joking.. lol.

My wife is 6 years younger. And although Bland Rookie claims my wife is asian, she is Black. Southern and Black too. She had a colleague who hadn’t seen Life, Friday, Do The Right Thing, etc.. none of it. She kinda realized she wasn’t up on shit when in Black social settings.

Its weird to me that people in here haven’t watched these movies and shows. Like if you weren’t alive or of age when it came out you don’t watch them?

Ionno, I grew up watching and listening to older music because my parents and cousins listened to them.

she knew the kitchen one, because her mom lives with us and leaves it on every night.

and she knew Martin cuz when we were dating, i had/have the Martin seasons on DVD and we'd watch that on some casual chilling on the couch shit.

she got half a point for Buggin Out cuz she knew Sal was racist but not the "why you ain't got no brothers on the wall?!?!?

she knew the House Party characters, but not that they were Full Force (maybe that's another half a point?)

she don't know old music like i do though, so she definitely didn't know Rick (and Full Force for that matter).

but yeah, a lot of shit she don't know just cuz of her age. that 7 years makes a difference. plus she wasn't a crazy hip hop head like i was. when someone raps about something you wanna get the reference so you go figure it out.

her mom, from Oakland by way of Mississippi, always says i'm a 60 year old Black woman who got trapped in a white guy's body cuz of how i act and the shit i like. i just laugh.
