I really thought that shit was overblown and the whites were tripping but I caught a marathon of season 5 last week since NFL was kinda wack and now I’ve watched like 10 eps in 3 days since I got back from a work trip.

I can say that it’s a very comfortable watch in the way Parenthood or Friday Night Lights is.

It’s just also got a bit of SOA fuckery/action in it to keep it spicy.

They’re a few “conservative” moments, but it’s a good show. It’s like a mix of Dallas/The Sopranos/“you pick one” gang movie, but based in Montana.

so we don’t need to get them anything.

So I bought them scooters. FOH.

I appreciate family for buying up the list but nah, I get joy out of being able to get them gifts. Especially because growing up we had some humble Christmases.

its going to be cold as hell in ATL this weekend. I don’t like that shit at all. Only place I’m going is to a movie theatre or a warm as bar/lounge. We will make it do what it do tho..

The hope is to work something for 5 or 6 hours a Saturday, which would bring my weekly hours worked to about 73/74. Aggravating but not undoable given that my current jobs are all in front of a computer and my full time job is from home.

But I live in a city where even after a year of being here I'm not really close to anybody so working to get money to take trips is worth it for me.

a high stress full time gig. She works part time now.

She will eventually go back to full time but the goal is to find a gig that is a healthy work environment.

I was mad at first.. but then realized her health AND our household were suffering when she had that gig.

but yes, we were able to build up a reserve when she was working full time.

Hope you have an amazing year traveling. We just popped our international cherry in Jamaica. Going to do some more traveling ever year now.

not for me but for all other houses here lol

i decided to take another look to see if some rents had gone down since i had read few people move around christmas. naaah rent has gone up. i think on average houses are 50% more than what i am paying. i found 1 house for $100/mo less and a handful for $200 more. i think around 50% of them are 50% more expensive and around the other 50% are twice as expensive.

i guess im gonna be staying here lol

my sister passed away May 25th. at the job they been playing christmas music and out of respect of me being one of Jehovah's Witness they played a few non holiday songs. one of the songs that came up was Jesus Is Love by the Commodores. my sister use to always sing that song, especially when I was younger (she's six years older). As the song played on I got so emotional thinking back on how she sang that song so well and before I knew it I was surrounded by co-workers checking to see if I was alright.

I've done the math, after maxing out my retirement contributions, I saved 45% of my take home income this year. So for each $1,000 check I've saved $450 in the bank.

Still hesitating on buying a new tv, or even Airpod pros 2, much less a new car.

I don't understand my reluctance to buy things - other than groceries and gas.

I just don't want to have another obligation.

I already have: Property Tax, HOA, Home Insurance, Car Insurance, Gas&Electric, Internet, Cell Phone, Electricity, various internet bills (domain, hosting), Amazon Prime.

So adding a bigger house, or a new car, or a new TV, or a new anything makes me feel bad.

I'm doing *really* well but in this country where if I lose my job health insurance will cost 600+ a month and where if an earth quake hits SoCal I might lose the entire house and have no place to live - I just get nervous.

Losing a job and losing a house isn't especially neurotic to me - they are very much in the realm of possibilities.

And if Social Security/Medicare are destroyed by the Republicans there goes that last little bit of safety net too. (Also, to me, not neurotic sinc many of the Republicans are explicitly SAYING they want to destroy Medicare and Social Security.)

since my wife lost her gig and we were all on her insurance

my job has insurance but we are a small company and the numbers didn’t make sense.

With the tax credit we pay around $300 a month for a family of four.

No idea how good it is and I hope we never have to find out it sucks but until we figure out a better option this was the best we could find.

Crosses fingers.

and I feel you on large expenses. My car is a 2011 and until it dies I’m not buying a new(er) car.

I want a new car but its not a good financial move right now.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
