I just remember reading (or hearing) that he was in the sessions for one of The Roots albums but I can't find any post about it and I don't know where else I would have seen that lol

That time was around the time he started to get some acclaim. He had some nice features around that time and likely would have matched with The Roots sound of that time.

Will have to dig out my copy later to verify but I remember reading in the notes for one of the songs (I want to say maybe one of the first 2 or 3 album cuts) that they were working with him or he was in the studio or something.
