From March to July of next year, Jill Scott will hold a 23rd anniversary tour dedicated to Who is Jill Scott? Words & Vol. 1.
Jill Scott is giving her 2000 debut Who is Jill Scott? Words & Vol. 1 another anniversary tour. After Scott’s 2020 tour for the 20th anniversary of her debut ended prematurely due to the pandemic, the Philadelphia-raised singer has announced that the tour will resume in 2023. Produced by Live Nation, the tour will run in over 20 markets across the country, with multi-show residencies at Washington, D.C.’s MGM National Harbor on Mother’s Day weekend and The MET Philadelphia.

“My band and I were so excited three years ago, but that damn COVID shut us down,” said Scott in a statement. “Now, we outside! Come see me. Come feel again. Relive your favorite moments. Ya’ll ready to settle down and get with this?!? It’s a lot of love here.”



Neo-soul group Moonchild were featured as opening acts on Scott’s 20th anniversary tour, but it appears that the group will not return for Scott’s new shows. Along with taking part in a Verzuz battle with Erykah Badu in 2020, the same year, Scott launched “Jill Scott Presents: J.ill the Podcast” with co-hosts Laiya St.Clair and Aja Graydon-Dantzler.

General public tickets for Scott’s tour go on sale Friday, December 9 at 10 AM local time. Check the singer’s website for updates. Read the full tour dates below.

At that time I was working for Hidden Beach, so I was tasked w/ doing promo shit. I got to meet Jill and she was very sweet. She was supposed to sign some autographs for me to some friends who asked, but when she signed the photos (this was back when artists kept headshots/promo pics handy to sign) she was super high and signed them all w/ my name. I didn't realize it until after i dipped, LOL.

Biggest thing I remember about that concert (other than her being awesome live) was Val Kilmer was randomly there w/ a beautiful black woman on his arm...and I say randomly cuz this wasn't L.A., this was in Seattle.

i assume his date wanted to come and he was along for the ride (she was BAD, i'd be along for the ride in his shoes too).

Val Kilmer doesn't seem like a Jilly from Philly fan all by his lonesome, but who knows.

Besides "Mama's Gun" and "Worldwide Underground" and "Voodoo" and "Black Messiah" (Nu AmeryKah part One (4th World War) has a rough feel)...

Most Neo-Soul seemed to go for the same type of sound. If a person generally likes the Neo-Soul "sound", Jill seems "acceptable" for that lane.


I was never too crazy about the overall Neo-soul sound but I know a lot of it sounded alike.

You should go back there, because you are way off.

Her first album stays in rotation on the radio station.

seem to love it. I caught this show a couple of years ago pre-pandemic and they were definitely into it singing along with every word from ever song. Half the time Jill would stop singing and just hold the mic up to the crowd which was annoying to me but they seemed to love it.

it's just very safe sounding. first album still fire, but after that, catalog got spotty and boring to me.

Jill has not attained the levels of D'Angelo or Badu...so folks will express the "emperor has no clothes" thing if someone makes a post about Jill (like Jill deserves some sort of "approval")

I love her 3rd album the most, I think.
An artist can be considered good/great by most but not be someone's lane, I get it... but that joint is tough. Anyone rock with Vol.3?

album made by a black woman during the height of the "neo soul" era, if you weren't of age during that era then this music may not resonate with you.

Over paper thin production. This album shouldn't even be considered when talking about the great Solquaian run. Maybe it's Neo Soul, and maybe features a number of artists who formed the Solquarians, it's not a Solquarian album and the toothless production shows it.

She can write some good grooves but this project didn't stand the test of time to me like Voodoo, TFA, LWFC, Mama's Gun and a few other's did.

You don't have to agree, but obviously some do. Welcome to the internet. Welcome to Okayplayer.
