"Talkin' shop on a Monday"

My newest temp (Temp #3 for those counting) is actually working. I can't beleive it took 3 to get it right, but I'm feeling pretty good.

I'm getting hit pretty heavy with projects and shit, so I been really coming in early basically everyday, then going home and working a bit from there.

It's actually not bad.

No word on the payscale adjustment yet. I'm guessing we get 5% movement, any more than that I just can't see them doing, which is about 15% less than market, but I'll take it.

What y'all on?

There is no way to migrate directly from squarespace 7.0
to 7.1.

Which is ridiculous.

How sway? Have to find a workaround for this.

We don't use Squarespace, but we've had the same issue switching CMS platforms. Rebuilding from scratch is usually what we do AND THE we still have to "hack" some areas like blog posts posting dates.

It's ALWAYS a pain in the ass.

then dev, or service, and sometimes even accounting has to bend light to make their lies true.

and of course that really just encourages the cycle to start again.

It's a vicious cyle. We are all in a toxic relationship with sales.

This week I need to accomplish a giant list of things in 3 days because I'm leaving to help my mother in Arizona at the end of the week.

1)Write 20+ stories for a new project so devs have stuff to do. (But we don't have a product owner, I'm just writing stories to be re-written later when a product manager comes in and wants changes.)
2)Complete UAT/handover/support documents for project launching on November 7th.
3)Write stories to implement new payment processing rules.
4)Try to get up to speed on how our bank accounts/locations work in existing finance system to map out how to migrate to a new system.
5)Troubleshoot issues in a system I have no access to.
6)Be in the 3 hours of weekly meetings each day that are schedule for some reason.

BUT - I had 3 root canals on Saturday and haven't eaten in 2 days.

And I was taking hydrocodone for a bit - I'm frazzled as hell. Gained 8 pounds and then lost 15 pounds in 2 days - I'm sure that's not normal either. (Probably water + poop.)

Should be a fun day/week.

Teeth/gums still hurt from the procedure.

Haven't really eaten a meal since Friday - BUT I lost 8 pounds over the weekend.

we pay for travel and hotels and get reimbursed for business trips.

She asked me if I wanted to pick up my check or have it mailed. Of course I said mail it because why would I want to drive up there? Plus it usually takes 1 day, 2 tops since its the same city.

that was 10 days ago.

She said she mailed it but I think she lying. I have a meeting on Wed so I will have her cut another check but I think she jealous because I’m working from home.

and this aint a couple hunnid.. so yeah, wtf.

>What's cracking?

- Graduated college in 2009. Was only able to get a part time gig working at a local courthouse doing data entry while working retail nights/weekends
- First FT gig was in 2011 making government ID cards for the Air Force
- Was in the right place, right time (sorta) and got a job that required me to move to DC as an executive asst (this was a big deal to me at the time)
- Right place, right time became the wrong place/time because I was on gov't contracts that were outbid and had to accept less pay/benefits twice in two years to do the same job
- Got "promoted" (with no raise), went as far as I could go in that contract
- Started interviewing ... interviewed with this huge consulting firm I really wanted to join, but bombed it unfortunately. Eventually got another admin job with upward mobility with a private company
- Got fired from there a year and a half later (finding out you're not as detail oriented as you thought is a harsh reality when your job depends on it, esp while you're going through separation/divorce)
- After months of unemployment, got another job as a student advisor for a distance learning company with limited upward mobility, but the pay was at least the same as the previous job
- After 3 years there, they made it clear they weren't gonna promote me. I wasn't having any success in DC's job markets, and debt wasn't going anywhere despite working a part time job
- Moved back to my hometown @ age 32 and lived with my parents to take another gov't contracting gig (with upward mobility if I were able to get in on the gov't side). Got promoted with raise, and was hoping to move to the gov't side, but they kept giving positions to vets, so I started studying to become a project manager
- After essentially a year full of no's, the day after I found out that the contract was ending and there was no new contract in place, I interviewed with that same consulting firm I had bombed 10 yrs ago and KILLED that shit. Got the verbal offer later that day. The contract I was on ends literally today

>Oh, and congrats!!!!

Thank you!

that manager understood. I referred two others to him. hopefully one of them will work out.

I've gotta get my ass in gear with two things.

1. this job is still kicking my ass. need to get more engaged.
2. this next cert. I've been half assing with the studying.

the job will take care of itself. the cert is going to take some extra effort. I'm debating on taking the current version vs the new version. the new version is in beta, but can be taken for only $50. the catch is that I can take the it this year, but won't know the results until the real version is released next spring. I could also take the take the current version, get my results asap, but it costs nearly $400.

I'm losing motivating here and there and there is A LOT of money on the line for me.

My mom gave me some great advice: Just do the next thing.

Don't worry about the process or how much time you have left, just do the next thing you have to. Step by step you'll get there.

I've been thinking of things like that, and sometimes I have to break it down as far as, I have to study for an hour today; but it's been helping.

talked my manager about it just a few minutes ago. told him I'm burnt out right now.

the constant internal training along the ever growing things to know just to be effective in the role. Add the certs for my own personal goals. it's too much.

I'm taking a few days off from the cert study. maybe get back in a couple of weeks. there's no deadline to get it done.

wish I could turn off the internal training, but there are deadlines contend with.

mine will. so just depends on where you are and their policies.

I can use a company card to pay for training, certs, and maintenance fees. other departments, you pay and the company will reimburse you. however, if you're trying to get a cert, but don't currently work a job where that cert is useful, you're on your own.

This happens way more than it should
IT put someone at my desk reassigned me. Didn’t move the second person and didn’t issue equipment
I just went home
Two weeks ago I didn’t have a chair
This place doesn’t have adequate desks
This place also only has 12 microwaves for over a thousand people and nine are in on section and three are in the other
Also not enough parking or shuttles
It takes on averages 35-45 minutes to leave site because this place didn’t provide a good road network
This place also doesn’t have enough restrooms.
Maybe 25 stalls and 10 urinals shared between three restrooms for over 700 people and then the other multiple thousand also have access to those restrooms

And none of this is a problem, in fact, many young people love the idea of working here.
That these are just acceptable things
A job that can’t provide you a seat, a place to heat food, to take a shit, or to park but demands you come into the office
