"Grand opening, grand closing.UK Prime Minister resigns after just 44 day..."
Thu Oct-20-22 09:48 AM by PimpTrickGangstaClik

I don't understand parliamentary government. And I don't think I ever will.
Truss was voted in about a month ago after Boris resigned over various scandals.
Truss just resigned under the threat of a no confidence vote. Now Boris Johnson is waiting in the wings to get back in the seat.

- The UK is still dealing with Brexit, and so are the Tories. It didn't quite do what they promised (understatement, of course) and their electorate is becoming restless.

- Truss was never popular to begin with. As far as I'm aware, nobody liked her.

- She announced a "mini-budget" full of trickle-down bullshit during a time where even a lot of conservatives and most financial institutions recognize that economic inequality is getting out of hand, largely thanks to decades of trickle-down bullshit.

Everything you just said is what the Torries PROMISE to do + the inflation problem.

Weird they'll get another chance to run it all after the problems their policies cause.

But let's not forget that Labour has been punching itself in the face quite a bit as well. Feels like they spent more time keeping Corbyn out of the driver's seat than presenting a good alternative to the Tories.

In other words, it's a typical first past the post shit show.

which folks blame for making economic conditions even worse than they already would be post-covid.

https://twitter.com/euromove/status/1583117983257628672

thats the backdrop to much of this.

12 years of conservative leadership and its just been a revolving door of chaos.

many of those same people will keep voting for tories/conservatives tho and the door will keep revolving.

It seems shit tends to happen quickly. Like even if things start off terribly here, you have at least 2 years before you are punished at midterms and in 4 years people can forget why they hated you in the first place.

Did Truss go rogue and implement things the party didn't want or its the public that forced this? Will the tax cuts get reversed?

I have no idea how things work over there but things tanked so fast its a head scratcher IMO.

Who controls the market in the UK?

Wouldn’t it be rich folks who are getting the tax breaks?

Might be a stupid question but curious how this all fell apart so fast.

it's the markets reaction to the tax plan.

the tax cuts when announced were not funded, so it would have to be funded with govt borrowing.

market reaction was offloading/selling British investments. this tanked their market and almost bankrupting the country. they were getting close to not being able to pay/fund pension obligations. also the pound lost a lot of value. the pound was equal to the dollar at one point.

so they had to cancel the tax cuts and their central banks had to buy a much of govt bonds to keep the pound a float.

It's amazing that the GOP gets credit for being the party of economic responsibility when they are the party that has recked the economy literally every time in the last 30 years.

the tax cuts always impact the economy AFTER they lose office so it looks like the Dems are screwing up.

Then Dems fix a few things and the GOP gets power and takes credit.

Shit is rigged over here. If Trump won a second term he would be eating a shit ton of this recession instead of Biden.

PM!

There are no time requirements for a PM to become eligible for the benefit. All you
have to be is a former PM.

Talk about gangster.

People are stating that she should turn it down due to the inflation
crisis in the UK, where a lot of the population are having trouble making
ends meet.

With the stress and tension that they put her through? Hell no. She
never had a chance. She had a lot of detractors from the
beginning. They are going to shame her for the rest of her life,
so I say claim that benefit!

And that's like the opposite of what you are supposed to do in inflationary times.

I guess they could lead with cutting benefits.

If we were a grown-up country and the big question on every voters mind was how to handle inflation the election would be about choosing Republicans who want to cut benefits or democrats want to tax profits to tame inflation.
