That code switching, especially for someone with a job like this interviewer, is normal, and it's asking too much to criticize him for that.

But thinking about it some more, I wonder if maybe he feels insulted that the reporter talks "normal" to him, but then turns on his white voice for the public. Like "why don't you talk white with me?"

Note sure if that's really what's going on here, but I think it's possible.

I think it's not a big deal. Dude is always in coaching mode, including the reporters that work for the org.

I've become a big Coach Prime because he used the shyne he has to empower black folks and black institutions. He is alright in my book.

one is of a 'local' issue and one involves a guy that's been famous for more years that not famous.

sure, there should definitely be more happening with the water, Brett Favre, etc, but that wouldn't change how much attention for Prime's move.

they're both 'local' issues. Most of the people talking didn't care about Jackson State football before Deion, knew who the previous coach was or knew the team's record.

He did a lot for Jackson State and HBCU football in general. They had a mutually beneficial relationship. He knew it was a stepping stone, and they knew too.

But he also has to look out for himself. No one (except the team's fans) expects other upcoming coaches to stifle their career development out of loyalty.

He's getting a huge pay bump ($300k per year at Jackson vs $5 million base at Colorado). His assistants he's bringing with him are getting big pay bumps.

Deion saying god told him to go to jackson state...and then ;leaving asap and not even saying goodbye or going over and above to do something for the school that gave him the hc job isn't...great?

but if mentioning that makes you a hater then

not saying goodbye to who?

he paid out his pockets to put his players up in hotels so they could bathe.

He had ESPN Gameday at JSU. He literally put them on the map nationally.

Anybody that watches football knew that JSU wasn't his ultimate goal and those that thought otherwise are foolish.

is different than saying it's A-OK for him to exit it the way that he did

it doesn't make him some awful person, but he's not who he said he was and it just depends on whether or not that matters to you

Coaching has the easiest yearstick to measure success; did he win? He won 2 conference championships.

Folks make it sound like he did one shitty season, decided he didn't like it, and moved on to another gig (which BTW, if he came there and was losing folks would say in a heartbeat get the bum out of there).

Instead he came there and did exactly what you hire coaches to do in winning championships AND much more by putting JSU and HBCU sports in the national spotlight. He did what he said he was supposed to do.

What more did folks want from him? No seriously, how many seasons did he have to play, how many chips did he have to win, before folks wouldn't be mad at him leaving?

BTW, maybe Bomani asking Sanders to give up a 7M bag but he could have passed up the HBO money and did his show on the Black News Network and saved it.

The only beef is that Deion lied about being on a mission from God. He's just prone to ridiculous hyperbole and some folks are calling him out on that. Chill.

...every other ambitious college coach. It's not really my place to decide if people should hold him to a higher standard because he started at an HBCU rather than Bowling Green.

Yeah, him declaring that "God chose me to go to JSU!" a month ago and then leaving is kinda shaky optics, but Deion has been extra for his entire public life.

IMHO, he's not a villain or a hero for leaving. He's using all of these schools as a means to work his way up the ladder to the best available open coaching position 5 or 10 years down the road. Just like a lot of these other coaches.

He came with that slick minister talk and duped/fooled the players, their families
and the JSU community. He was never in it for building up HBCUs to the level of
power 5s, and pushing to get black universities into major bowl games, as he has being
stating over the past 2 years.

And he had the nerve to tell JSU players not to enter transfer portal, when he is
transferring his damn self.

First chance he got he jumped to a PWI. The object was to turn HBCUs into a
billion dollar platform so that coaches and players don’t have to go to white
universities. That was the objective.

He said he wasn’t there for the money, or the notoriety. He said he was there to
help the kids and to fortify the legacy and history of HBCUs…..

He is no different than all the other scumbag, arrogant coaches who fock over
communities, families and kids.

And his arrogant, disdainful introduction to the Colorado football team is a
whole other situation. He talked to those kids as if they were inmates.

he's the same as every other coach, but under the guise of helping HBCUs overall. not just JSU.

JSU players are in the transfer portal, including the ones going with him to CU.

nigga went to Colorado.

he sold it like he was in it for the long haul.

3 years aint shit.

Made it sound like he coulda went anywhere but it was all about God calling him to an HBCU. Guess God called him again.

or maybe it wasn’t God, it was just boosters calling him?

and he ran from JSU. It wasn’t like he put things in place and had a successor. Dude bounced after the first solid offer from a PWI.

Coach Prime betrayed recruits by reneging on his mantra of invest in an hbcu instead of bigger primarily white institutions. L At the end of the day it's business and the man interviewed for Arkansas, FSU, and TCU before leaving for Colorado.

He did not betray Jackson State University itself. He signed a 4 year $1.2 million contract with $120,000 per year in performance incentives. In his third year he donated half his salary to complete football facilities. Upon exit he owes the school 300K per the contract buyout clause. Jackson State clearly won this deal paying Deion 840K to coach because the value of endorsements alone dwarfs the $840,000 they paid him. Jackson State has the money to pay Deion, not $5 mill per year money but 2 mill is doable.

They asked too much of a Coach Prime and didn't fully capitalize off his time there. At bare minimum they should've had merchandise and an nft minted ready to go from his who is swac rant. Hope the SWAC as a whole grows from the Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders experience and develops. Get a streaming deal with national content providers. Battle of the Bands should be an even bigger event. Games that SWAC teams play against prominent national programs shouldn't be played for a financial loss.

Folks aren't mad that Deion is leaving for Colorado for the bag...because I would...

It's about how he's handling it and what he promised to folks when he got there...rushing the ceremony after the SWAC championship game and flying out to Colorado and not meeting with the media after the game

Not meeting with the media for the Celebration Bowl Presser on Thursday but being at the basketball game in Colorado that same night...

He's controlled the narrative...and rumors have spread about what he paid for and what money he didn't get from the school which are inaccurate...

Just like most on this board...when the hire was announced...I said no more than 3 years, but he needs to be there 5-10 years to actually build a sustainable foundation that'll last once he leaves...and if he doesn't bring home multiple Celebration Bowls...it's a failure...and so far he MIGHT bring back one...and quite frankly...I'm not sure about that...

That school down in Durham (North Carolina Central for the unaware) is a really good football team that has played a tougher schedule and beaten a Top 25 FCS program this year. And I think have a better Quarterback under Center in Davius Richard...so before all of this chaos, I thought they had a shot of winning...

MEAC teams have always been underdogs in this game...but they are 5-1...with my alma mater being 4-0 in the game (North Carolina A&T)...

Winning the SWAC championship twice and going undefeated in the conference isn't unprecedented as it Grambling did it in 2016 and 2017...Matter of fact...they were a SWAC Championship Game away in 2015 from doing it 3 years in a row...and Grambling got the only Celebration Bowl win for the Conference during that run...

We all know what he said in his introductory press conference in Jackson about uplifting and provoking change at HBCUs...but when you look at it and be honest...he only did some of that at one HBCU...Jackson State University...he assisted the other schools in the SWAC to start looking at how they handle their contracts regarding the classics...and helped with some of the media deals for the SWAC...but it hasn't helped the 90+ HBCUs in these streets...

The MEAC schools didn't really get nothing out of it...Tennessee State got something only because Jackson State was on the schedule for the Southern Heritage Classic which is no longer the case...they are now playing UAPB starting next season...Division 2 HBCUs didn't get anything out of it...A&T definitely didn't get anything from it...they even asked the head coach and he laughed at the notion of it...they were already the largest HBCU in the nation years prior to Deion showing up...

Just think we need to be careful of giving Deion Sanders credit for things that's not warranted...he did some good things for Jackson State...he brought attention to the institution...but Jackson State was already the leader in attendance in FCS before he showed up...and they were already planning some of those facility upgrades before he showed up...

We can have the debate on whether or not JSU did a good job of utilizing his celebrity or not...because quite frankly I don't think they did...but that's another discussion for another time...maybe during the 1 pm games before the Panthers play...

especially when it comes to athletics. Prolly some HS’s in Texas who put more money towards their football program.

So dude uses God, hypes up players and then bounces to Colorado after 3 years. That isn’t a long time AT ALL when it comes to coaching.

He did a Layne Kiffin.

Just keep it real.

Also, Prime was robbed.. nigga, first off, that aint shit compared to the crimes players have committed at places like Colorado.

He acts like he was duct taped to a bench with a gun to his head.. and I’m not defending theft but c’mon.. that just sounds like a bad look to make HBCU’s sound like its criminal minded.

my thing tho.. anytime someone says “God told me.. “ I call bullshit. If that were true you would stay much longer than 3 years.

of him staying 5+ years at JSU are fooling themselves. He never stayed in one place that long as a player but you think he's going to stay in Jackson Mississippi voluntarily for 5+ years? Have you ever been to Mississippi? I have, my family is from there and its always a very short trip. No more than 2-3 days let alone 2 or 3 years lol.

Again have you ever been to Mississippi? Jackson is probably the worst part. The worst of the backwoods country shit but with the hood mixed in.
