"Who has the power in the Black Community? "

Serious question that just ran across my mind today.

Like it seems like nothing major gets done without celebs. And that's sorta disturbing?

Is it the rappers? actors? politicians? or the people? Black twitter?

I guess it depends on what you define as power and what you'd like to use it for. It seems like in this country all we control is coolness. And barely that sometimes.

Rando.

the people that they have the power are intentionally undermined
by the onslaught of consumerism, self hatred, destruction and
death perpetuated by Corporations who have negatively conditioned generations of Black people to keep us insecure and subservient
via tools like advertising, music, social media and other devices designed to yadda yadda blah blah blah...

But yeah...

The public figures all eventually answer to a cracker.

The ones who don't play ball get a case opened up on them, or get assassinated.

The church hasn't had that much sway in the community for at least 30 years. Maybe 40.

Mostly in business and government that are running shit and we just don't pay attention to it because its boring and slow.

Like how many people knew the name Ketanji Brown Jackson before she was appointed to the Supreme Court?

Kenneth A. Polite, Jr. or Kristen Clarke, one of the two will probably end up being Attorney General at some point. Either household names?

Cedric Richmond is as influential as anyone in government (I think he is in the private sector now) but if most people know him its because he had a viral moment coming at Matt Gaetz.

Thasunda Brown Duckett,Kenneth I. Chenault, Raymond McGuire, Robert Smith (who most people only know once he gave all those scholarships at Morehouse).

Even in Hollywood the most powerful black person there is arguably Charles King from MACRO (again not a household name).

These are the people that influence policy, have the ear of Presidents but they will never get the screen time of Kanyes, Will Smith & the two other people we talk about all the time here.

Unofficially order of control is:

The man that runs the world > the power brokers below him > the media with the power to promote or restrict messages.

The average person interacts with media. Constituent one and constituency two are not discussed.

Notice how certain lifestyle decisions are primarily targeted towards the black community. Certain artists are denied access to other communities yet openly pushed towards black youth, not brown youth because brown youth don't exist they pass for white excuse me identify as white in real life.

These messages are marketed towards the black community for monetary gain and job creation in the case of Democrats. Mainstream black media outlets are primarily financed by white liberals hence their anti-Black content. Their goal is dictating the conversation.

A few weeks ago Tiffany Cross attacked black men on MSNBC over lack of support for Stacey Abrams:

https://youtu.be/arxouyuGdRw

It's why the black community bailed out Jim Crow Biden and Top Cop Kamala Harris after they almost lost the election despite their horrible records in the black community.

Look at the attempt to colonize hip-hop and try rewriting history on who created it. True power in the black community means controlling messages.

No empathy for white misery (c) BDot

It's far to multifaceted for this question to be answered. What and who is influential to me, is not that same as what and who it is for my mother, or my cousin, let alone for black folks who live in a different region, have a religious affiliation, age, political leaning, sub-cultural affiliation, gender expression etc. etc.

there is no national unity

but locally I think its mostly the church and community organizers.

in business I would say HBCU’s and Black greeks have a lot of influence.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
