"RIP Coolio...dead at 59" Wed Sep-28-22 08:35 PM by Dstl1
My buddy and I were just talking about him on a road trip, this past weekend. His video for Gangster's Paradise used to play on Video Jukebox, non-stop. Damn.

Routinely in the Phat 5 at 9 on Power 106 back in the day.. That man had quite the run in the 90s. Sure, Gangstas Paradise is what people will remember most but shit….he even did the Keenan and Kel song. RIP to a legend.

he was talking about how he shouldn't have won best video against Bone Thugs and Harmony, my guy was like "to this day, that Bone Thugs video is one of the best most creative videos ever, I just rapped in a white girl face"

59 is young…
but for a rapper it feels old.
He had some joints and an amazing run.
**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
Was a big fan in my younger days. When I was in 8th grade I got sick a lot so I spent a ton of time at home playing Slingo and listening to My Soul (which IMO is a super underrated Coolio album).
Then there was the movie Eddie with Coolio's "It's All the Way Live" which I always thought was a jam.
RIP. Seemed like a really solid dude and had some absolute bangers for a few years there.

His solo career took off in the summer of 1994.
And he was older than almost all of his contemporaries and peers. Older than everyone in Run-DMC. Older than all three Fat Boys. In fact, of the rappers who really first blew up in the mid to latee '80s, I think the only ones he was younger than were Chuck D, Ice-T, Kool Moe Dee, and Schoolly-D. And even those guys got "big" hen they were still in their 20s.
They only say rap is a young man's game, but it's kind of amazing that Coolio didn't blow up until he reached what was then considered hip-hop middle age.

Not on the same level commercially, but she’s known.
Didn’t really make noise until she was around 30, and started having her most success at like 35-37 with her last two albums. I believe she’s got something coming soon if I remember right.

Crazy when you think about it. He found his lane though and caught lightning in a bottle for a several year run that very few rappers have experienced.
